DSL TC Showcases / Re: Redalert's rare DSL builds and WS
« on: May 07, 2019, 01:51:34 PM »
Ah. This bot should be posted in RA2 wiki, then. It's a perfect example.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Time to look for something IRL legal to invent that hasn't been made yet- Wandering Spinners are not tournament legal, and InvinciRammers are unrealistic.
Look, the reason why you can't invent stuff that's legal in IRL building is because there is nothing new to invent, Snares are clamps (trust me I know) Wandering spinners are ideas from a long time ago that someone else made, then you rediscovered them under a new name, Invincirammers are just rammers with chassis mounted armor, which anything mounted to the chassis is invincible thus making it a clear exploit of the rules making it illegal. You want to invent stuff but I think before you invent stuff you should try to perfect the bot types there are, like vertical spinners, rammers, flippers, hammers, you want to think your bots are perfect but they are far from it (well idk about your stock bots because I haven't played it for a bit and nobody else is playing stock to compare you to) you need to improve with your robots, and before you go inventing anymore bot types you need to perfect the ones there are.
I have agree with what Code Red said. It's clear that you haven't really done any research into the forums to see what other users have created. I can't blame you for the fact that you might of not known that users like Squirrel_Monkey had created a one wheeled spinner just like the ones you make now from years ago. But even after we flat out tell you about if your creation has already been made, just variations of already existing bots or even flat out tournament illegal, your ego kicks in and starts making a fuss about insisting that you "invented" it, claim it's only for fun and dismiss a lot of what we have to say, instead taking our word and realise the truth. Get out of your ego and look for the truth. It's not difficult.

There's nothing stopping you from experimenting with new bot combinations. Sure, go ahead and invent a side hammer with moving saw-blades, a flipper that shoots flames when it flips or a variation of punching spinner. But seriously, do your research on the forums to see what's been invented already, what's tournament legal, and actually take the word of all of us here on gametechmods, before "inventing" a new bot type and dismiss most views that prove you otherwise.

Just a heads-up, I'm going to redo the last bot on the team I sent you, and pm you that bot to replace the previous one.
You don't need to announce every time you're going to recreate a bot that you made. Not everyone is going to be interested in hearing about someone is going to rebuild a bot that was sent off to the pack creator.

Edit:
Wow. I never knew Seismic activity would lose like THAT...

That HS with the bear claws looks like my bot I-BEAM.
Please use a spoiler tag when talking about your bot's tournament performance or anyone's tournament performance so far, even when they lose. It's not that hard, we already told you about this.

Do you really want to put forth effort in making a vid for boring fights, like 2 rammers bumping each other?

Again, I'll post vids of the exciting matches.
It doesn't matter. This isn't ARC, members of GTM do not want to read a wall of text, explaining the fight instead of showing it. If you really don't want to show the boring fights, just make a highlight reel video, or have fade to cut in a video episode to skip the "boring" parts just like with tournaments like Orc Wars etc. Just anything other than a wall of text.

Heads up for you guys, I'm only posting vids of the exciting fights.
Seeing that you've learned nothing from No Mind Devastation, really proves something about your ego. But seriously, we told you this before, nobody on GTM wants to read a wall of text about tournament matches that you deem boring, because what happen then is that nobody get a clear picture about the whole match, we get bored, and we get confused to the point that we just stop following the tournament. All we knew about the first rumble was that one bot gets stuck, another gets turned over and another loses by points without knowing why these events happened and what happen in between. Whatever happened to show don't tell?!

Existing Games / Re: Super Smash Bros (JOKER DLC!)
« on: April 17, 2019, 03:35:53 PM »

The first DLC character of Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Not Including Piranha Plant), Joker from Persona 5, will be released very soon.
Included in his set will be Joker himself, a new stage in Mementos, and 11 music tracks from Persona 3-5.
New Mii fighter costumes are also included, based off characters from the Sonic franchise and other characters from the Persona franchise.

In other Smash related news, Version 3.0.0 is almost here, including Stage builder, a video editor and Smash world, a sorta Social Media dedicated to Smash related content, which will be able to easily share content, like screenshots and Videos made using the video Editor

As a fan of Jojo, Persona, and crossovers, hyped for this. Also, hoping the tracks include the boss battle themes from 3-5, because they are cool
Same here. After getting in to the Persona series more recently, this should be a great new inclusion into Smash ultimate, especially for any long time fan. Though, I'm bit doubtful on if I really do want to spend the money for the DLC, if I'm not play it that much though.

It's very sad to hear about someone who contributed, and made an impact on the UK Robot fighting, has pass away this week. From what he has done from not just Robot Wars, but also for all other stuff he has done over the years, including the creation of Brum. He will always remain in our hearts.

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas

Yeah OBJ is free. The download's floating around on here somewhere. Besides that you need blender or some other CAD software, but there are a few free options

Blender is free if im not wrong.
Also for the objtora2 chassis you need to set the graphics to low or else they wont work. There should be a guide here anyway
The graphics don't have anything to do with the model not working. It's more about the overall topology within your model. Since OBJRA2 requires the model to be split into tris (Having triangular faces within your mesh) to process the model and build a mesh. Knowing that this is a game from 2003, you want to have as few polygons/tris as possible for the game to build the mesh without causing the game to slowdown or even crash.
Not true from my experience. You need to do the trov glitch, or set the graphics to low for an OBJ chassis to show up properly
Well, thanks for telling me that. This is what I get for trying to be smart about something I've barely touched.

Okay,
Sorry to jump off topic, but...
     RA2 is dying.
This is because Infrogrames has stopped supporting it.
This makes RA2 crash more often.
If we want to make GTM great again, help me make RA4, because it looks like DSL more than like a new game. This will make Robot Arena live longer.
Amazing
Every word of what you just said, was wrong.

Also, I still love playing this game. I've been playing for about 2 years now, including stock and DSL, and I still can't stop making new bots almost daily. I see our little community and am just happy that it's living after over 16 years of RA2. Thank you all for keeping this running for the new players that we still find coming up and making bots.
I've to agree with Superbomb with this one. Just because that Gabriel interactive and Infograms is no longer supporting the game, doesn't mean that Robot Area 2 is fully dead. In fact, GameTechMods is the reason why this game is still alive. Sure we can't stop the game from crashing most of the time, because that's beyond our control since we don't have RA2's source code, but these issues have never stop numerous users from building bots, having a go at modding, and most importantly: having fun. Just saying that RA2 is dying feels like a kick in the backside for what the community of GTM has done throughout the years. If RA2 was dead by the game's launch and had no time to build a fan base, then we would never have all these amazing community tournaments, numerous mods/AI packs and even tools like Sergepatcher.

Yes, you can argue that RA2 does pander to a small fanbase of Robot combat fans instead of reaching out to the mainstream market, but even along these fans who enjoying having so much freedom when building and customising bots, this game will remain in a special place in their hearts.

Okay, I can't believe Seismic Activity actually got under Emergency.
Irony seems to be doing decently.

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
...and this is why it's called Irony- because it tears opponents apart! :))))))
Please use a spoiler tag when stating down your bot's tournament performance so far.

DSL TC Showcases / Re: Noob bots (Asking for advise)
« on: March 10, 2019, 12:08:06 PM »
Thank you very much! I really admire the time and effort you put into outlining my main mistakes.
I am looking forward to implementing the advise in my next bot and will probably visit the guide, you have linked at the end, before that, too.
I haven't realized this game would be so complicated, but I am definitely up to the challenge to learn more about it and improve my skills.
No problem. Before being overwhelmed by the about of information, playing this game is like learning any another game. It's easy to pick up, but it takes time to master. Before you know it, you'll know most of the key concepts important to bot building.

Hello, and welcome to Gametechmods!

This is going to take awhile, but I'll break this down into some key tips; The first tip is that you shouldn't use Piglets as drive motors. These motors are meant for powering weapons and not power drive, you can instead use astroflights, TWM3Rs, NPCs since they'll give more power to the drive system than piglets. Remember, use the right drive motors for the right weight class for example: astroflight motors are good drive motors for lighter bots such as Antweights, Beetleweights and Lightweights while NPCs are good for Middleweights and Heavyweights.

Second tip: Be careful will intersection. I noticed that a few of your bots have parts intersecting, for example: Flippa have its VDMA intersecting the battery, Useless has batteries intersecting with its drive motors and Shark having its teeth intersecting its drive when the weapon spins. Most tournaments that runs an IRL rule set, when your bot must be roughly possible to replica in real life. Intersecting parts such like batteries intersecting motor are impossible to do in real life. Do you ever see Tombstone having it weapon intersect its wheel without damaging them? This isn't to say that you should never have interesting parts, but try not to have parts interesting in illogical places like a spinning bar going through wheel. However, a spinning bar going through an armour plate or plow is allowed, as long as said weapon doesn't illegally intersect with anything else.

Third tip: Build to the weight limit. Alot your bots have some weight left over. With this left over weight, you could put it towards better chassis armour, better motors for drive and weapons. Useless could benefit from having a larger chassis not only to space out some of the parts, preventing intersection, but also better drive motors such as NPCs, allowing it to spin on the spot fast. Needless to mention, IRL tournaments do have a weapon cap to prevent users from spamming weapons like Typhoon teeth etc. With the amount of teeth on Useless and Shark, most hosts will tell you to remove some of the teeth to prevent it from being overpowered. However, with the excessive amount of teeth remove, you could put the weight into other areas such as armour, batteries etc.

Some other little pointers as well is that, Steve Enter bot name should not have all the drive motors on one side. Though you did quickly learn from that, remember when designing the bot, is best to stick to simple shapes rather than have over complicated chassis, otherwise, you'll have little space for key components, other than that remember to build the chassis around the parts, not the parts for the chassis. Likewise, this will prevent incidents when you can't a part that you needed into the chassis.

Other than that despite how long this post is and I haven't covered everything, if you are interested in building realistic bots, you should check out this guide here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/irl-a-beginner's-guide/
This should you some basic hints and tips for IRL builders on what to do for IRL designs, to make them tournament legal. I hope that the advice works.
