I don't see much of a problem with the current rules so far. But, I'm pretty interested in entering something into this.

Site News and Feedback / Re: Avalanche may return
« on: June 16, 2018, 03:52:44 AM »
Avalanche's aggressive white knight response is not something a normal person would say, nor is it something Avalanche would typically say. He's just trying too hard to look like he's changed and I'm surprised he hasn't annoyed more people with this forced behaviour. Inb4 that was 4 months ago, 'cos that's a great argument.

Not to mention the 'perma' bit of his ban(s). Permas should just be called indefibans.
Aggressive White Knight would be a little to much. Rather I would say he's more of a behaviour enforcer taking the job too seriously. When some user who has no online social skills to interact with the website and acts in a way that's unacceptable, instead of him trying to calmly explain about what the user is doing wrong, he instead starts an unnecessary flame war over the smallest of all problems like a person not even getting a joke or users telling someone to correct their username. As under his current user name, he had all this time to improve this aggressive behaviour in having respect of minor faults in user's online behaviour patterns and keeping most complaints to himself unless necessary, but instead he kept on going and got himself muted and temporary banned throughout his time, making me believe that he was unbanned, that this old behaviour might be picked up again once he gets back on the forum, despite saying that he has turned over a new leaf. So my vote still stands on no.

Forgot to add. Sure, on some occasions that despite being a massive jerkass of a person who points out the minor of all problems of a user within a flamewar, he does have a point. But as I did say, he should of try and hold his aggressive personality behind his ego and instead try to explain the problem in an non-aggressive manner, so the problem could of solved without having to start a flame war in the first place.

Sorry but no. Sure Avalanche has turned over a new leaf and may appear to be less of an asshole than he was last year. But with the amount of chances that we have given him throughout his time on Gametechmods, could be us being a little too forgiving for his past actions. Did this site ever try to get "Noodle" or "That Robot is a spy!" unbanned?. It's his own fault he got banned from this site and being perm-banned should be the final word on this. He could of avoid this if he just took the six month ban like a mature person, instead of making all those sock puppet accounts that led to his perm-ban.

So even if you were to unban him, let's just say he'll be on his last leg.

Contests / Re: BOTM Theme Ideas (August)

Personally, I don't mind what the end result is going to be, since I'm unlikely to enter. It still doesn't mean that I cannot share ideas. I have few such as crawlers, sport themed bots or a more heavy challenge based bot of the month like everyone has to build a bot from a pre-made chassis.

Well, at least I'm happy that I was able to be a part of this. Thank you very much Orc!

I had some good fun playing around with this update. Trying to see what kind of bot that I can build or/and possibly break the game  in someway. Regardless,  I do have some suggestions on how the bot lab could be greatly improved:
 1. Hotkey shortcuts. Being used to 3d modeling software and other programs. It's a little annoying when you have to press a button on the side bar to do anything in the bot lab, when someone is used to hitting one key to perform an action. For me and other players, it more about having the convenience of just hitting a key on the keyboard to active a function, instead of having to reach over for a button to perform the action. Some ideas could be that having a delete key to remove a part, maybe one key for each adjustment for height, rotation and scale, and a button to undo an past action.

2. Part duplication a.k.a Copying and Pasting. I'm aware that you can save personal preferences on certain parts, but if I was to make a bot with multiple wedgelets on the front, I don't want to go through the pain of saving the part, then dragging said part into place. Instead there should be a way how the player can copy a part, and paste the part right next to the part they customized, so that they may wish to align the part on the same line as the first part, instead of possibly having to drag multiple parts in the scene, then going through the horror of perfectly aligning them all up to the first one.

3. Undoing mistakes. I put a battery in the scene, but I messed up the rotation and moved it further away from where it should be. I don't want to go through the time consuming effort of trying to correct my mistake. Instead there should be an option allowing the player to revert their mistake back to the point when the player just got the position all right. This implementation may be difficult to fully work in some areas, but this will be helpful to any player when they are building a bot.

Overall, I'm enjoying to see the overall progress of the game. Sure there are a few problems that need ironing out here and there, but once all  that is all sorted, you'll have a game that'll be look up upon by the community. Anyway, I'll be looking forward for the next update when it does come out then.

I feel that you made your robot slightly worse than the original. You do realize that bot's chassis shape along with your weapon position, looks unsuitable for a paddle flipper. Instead try making a front hinge flipper instead to get a little more leverage when your bot is flipping others. If you seriously want to have a paddle flipper, redesign the chassis and make the paddle more shallow, or add some skirt hinges and skirts if you're going for standard while redesigning the chassis. With the later, you'll be able to have your bot getting under other bots with ease, without having difficulty in doing so.

You should also listen to Phillipa, remember to build to the weight limit. With the amount of weight that's left, you could try with swapping some parts over. For starters; you could swap out the Hinge burst in favor for a more powerful piston burst, or a beta if you want to try a front hinge flipper, get rid of some wasted weight like removing the Canine saw and removing the double wheels in favor of just one, since you don't need them due to the weight they are taking up that could of been used else were, such as some of that weight could of gone to powerful drive motors like NPCs. Reverse motors are okayish for middleweight drive, but get much better speed out of having NPCs instead, which be handy when it comes to getting under opponents quickly.

I know this may seem like a lot to take in. But just take it one step at a time and you could be onto the road to greatness.

Anyone up for a BTSHDBBDDTBL rumble?

I'm putting up Flawless Idea for it.
I'm up for it. I'll put Copy Cat 2018 forward for this rumble.

No, ofcourse not! The second rumble is full of bots that I consider the worst for numerous, non-personal reasons, such with Triangle of Doom having and heavy exposed weapon motor on such a thin extender support. So the idea of the rumble is more for the search for the best of the worst.

Aw, why do you dislike Venom? It's the optimal bot design for DSL-S MWs. you're probably just jealous :heck:
Alright, the reason why I chosen Venom is because that regardless of it's long bar that's good for attacking other robots before they can get up close, the problem lies within the fact the bar is so long, the weapon can not get up to full speed to cause major damage to the opponent. Though the last point was the result of having the starting points of the area being close up to the wall that results in the bar would often end up being caught by the wall. Also, combined with having barely enough weapons to out-weapon a lightweight bot, the overall damage capabilities are very little. I don't want to add any more fuel to the fire but If you have a serious problem with this, I'll request Philippa to replace it with another robot.

it's okay lmao

If you looked deep in the Discord chatlogs you can see Venom spawned from a funnie discussion about long bar spinners. It was never meant to be a serious bot.
I apologies, that was just me thinking that you're having a go at me for choosing your bot for the Best of the Worst rumble. I'm not really a person who gets a joke easily, so all forgiven.

Right since Philippa is encouraging us to fill out these grudge matches. Time for the ideas to flow in:

Rumbles
A shogun vs Ice Maker vs Triple Threat vs Goodbye but forever
Ground Zero vs Nap Time vs Triangle of Doom vs Venom inc (I think you get the idea)

If I have any more ideas, I'll post them here.
Is that second rumble suggestion (that includes my bot) the total loser's rumble (contains bits that have 0-6 record in their heat)

Thoughts and opinions:
1. Bit of a rarity of seeing a full body spinner made in the Ironforge meta. But looks like the bot has a large potential in a tournament.
2.I'm not a big fan of seeing IRL styled bots in Ironforge. But it's pretty decent, though not that special enough to win this month.
3. Unlike Chronic, I don't chuckle. It's nice to a proper Ironforge bot being based upon a theme, rather than just being a generic Ironforge bot. Looks like DSC is going to win BOTM yet again.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: GTM Discord - The issue.
« on: May 24, 2018, 01:14:30 PM »
Personally with the current issues about the behavior on the discord, I very much in agreement to many of the issues that have been already mentioned on this current board. During the times of the old discord, I was disgusted with the treatment I got from a few users and even got as far as me getting upset when I was mocked at by some of my actions like "I don't know the concept of wheels" when that saying was put into a quite a hurtful way which almost caused me to leave the discord; and with the way I acted must differently to other users, caused some of my posts being mocked upon by many of the less mature members, that caused me to limit my posts in nothing more than fear of posting something that will cause me to be frowned upon. When most of  those issues was on back on the old discord and those users who caused these problems are either banned, left the site or matured, I still feel that the whole issue still lingers with the current discord with many new users joining the boards, in fear that whatever you post on the discord or the main site could be mocked and cause the user to leave the discord, though this issue isn't to the same extent as the old discord but I do not want the new discord to descend into the same problems with the last discord.

One last point, with the current memes being posted around like "gtm is toxic" or "join the real discord" just need to stop. In serious situations, posting those memes aren't going to help solve anything. We all know that the site and discord has a problem with toxicity, but that's the past, we need to look forward to the future and think of a solution to help solve the current toxicity problem and make the discord much more enjoy, easier place for newer members to get into. Joining the "real discord" isn't going to solve the problem since that discord channel is pretty much the playground reincarnated into a meme fest, just like what the old discord became with new users having a much tougher time trying to fit into a channel that mocks then for their posts or who they are.

Heat N: Copy Cat 2018
I can agree with that. But I do feel that this could be a tight heat between Meltdown and FB CEO due to the high weapon count. Poor Ground Zero doesn't stand much of a chance in that heat.
