That's pretty sweet. I never expected that anyone to use weapon components like the T-minus flipping arm for looks, instead being used like actual weaponry.

I was going to say that you should probably stick to using either plastic or titanium, due to having good protection and being lighter than steel depending on the thickness. Apart from that, you're on a road with something, but you should make your feeder wedge a little wider and longer in regards. Having a hinged wedge will allow your bot to get under other bots, but having a longer, wider wedges will ensure your bot having a better chance in getting under your opponent. In terms of building, try using a skirt hinge instead of a metal hinge, you'll be able to fit on multiple skirts onto the hinge then you do with a metal hinge. If you want, you can try using angled skirts if you want a little more width in your skirt wedges.

Your bot is still underweight. Remember there is a good reason why other users have been telling you to build to the weight limit. With the remaining weight left over, the weight could of gone into having better chassis armour, having better protection of the front, or changing the small burst pistons in favour for medium bursts for a more powerful flipper.

In addition to this, you seriously need a feeder wedge for your bot. In DSL-S, you need to ensure that there is a way to get underneath your opponent with ease, that's when you need to attach a few side skirts onto a skirt hinge in order to get a perfect, low ground clearance so your opponent can be fed onto your bot's flipper for your bot to use. Without a feeder wedge in place, your flippers are too steep to get underneath anything other than any bot with a high ground clearance. The back protection does feel a bit unnecessary to me, sure you don't want the motor's ripped off by HSs, but the protection could of been used to guard the wheels instead. The AI often does have a habit of going around to the sides first first before heading to the back, so put the back protection to the sides ,or don't use back protection at all and instead use the weight somewhere else if you have to.

Also if it a little too much to ask, could tell me what chassis armour you are using?

Well, looks like we got a good line up of bots no matter what division they're in. For my thoughts on my bots, I feel I'll probably have a good chance with the cruiserweight and lightweight divisions with my better built bots, more than the antweight and superheavyweight division with more questionable bots. But never or less, I wish everyone who's competing the best of luck and hope this tournament ends up being a blast.

Discussion / Re: RA2 Clans
« on: July 04, 2018, 05:17:00 PM »
I'm not too fussed about this idea. If the forums were much larger in terms of user count they were than yes, having the idea of clans can work for tournament wise. But this forum isn't like Xbox live or something on the lines of that, this is just a small forum board that's tucked away from the rest of the internet and setting up clans will just have little purpose for such a small active user count, unless anyone is willing to engage in petty clan warfare against other users. So, if you want to have clans or something, maybe start a tournament that uses a team based format like Light vs Dark or Britbongs vs Amerifats. Instead of making the forums possibly more divided over clan rivalry than anything else.
I don't see the issue. It doesn't have to be 100 people in a clan
You're not seeing the point. Even if this isn't a large scale forum that have over 100 different, active users a day all in one clan. It still feels like it's pointless to start up proper clans for alliances between users, which lead onto nothing more than just large divides between one and other. All because that your in this clan and someone else isn't part of this, unless action is done to keep control.

Unless you do like the idea of starting clan warfare, then how about you read through my previous post and set up a team base tournament like the examples I put down. Your clan idea isn't bad overall, but I do feel about this needing some control before more divides and minor flaming does show up between multiple users.

Come on England!

TBH I'm not really much of football person, but since it's the world cup and Fracture is taking the piss, let the bongs smash all his hopes.

Right. Here's my personal conclusion:

There's two conflicting schools of thought here - the DSL-S builder, and the DSL-IRL builder. There'd be too much upkeep involved in having both meta's be their own separate mod packs. DSL-IRL originally started off as a spinoff of DSL-S, but has reached a point now where it dwarfs it by a factor of 5. Therefore, to keep the most users satisfied, it would be best to steer DSL as a mod in the direction of IRL. Yes, this will completely, radically change what we know as DSL-S - but, for the sake of keeping 'em happy... It's what's needed.

Separate mod.
We already got a separate mod for standard building. It's called Ironforge, look it up.

That's a very interesting story of what went on within the development of RA3 and your involvement in the project itself. Yes, I do feel you with the problems that you faced during your time testing and making a few components for the project. Then finding out about the results of the end project being an absolute mess. As a student currently doing a computer games design degree, I have faced some of these problems before when I did a few group work base projects when my group would have a good idea, but then communication became limited, someone decided not to do anything and I didn't get to see what other's did in terms of work. So in the end, the project was a big disappointment. It's a hard to say this since I'm a student who can afford to make mistakes and group work can be an absolute pain in the first year, but even then these problems can occur throughout game development all the time, so this is more the case on how to try to avoid the problems for next time.

Apart from all of that, it's good to see an old face returning to the forums again!

Apart from the use of CF. I have a few criticism to make. To start off, I would advise not to use the spike strips for the main weapon since unlike the same component in DSL, spike strips barely do much damage in stock. Instead try using razors due their high piercing/damaging capabilities, other weapon components like Iron spikes or maces in some cases, are also effective for a poker due to their damage capabilities.

If you are going for an unrealistic build style, instead of using multiple pistons for the weapon, instead just one piston with a T connect on it, some extenders then stick as many weapons as you can fit on. Remember that unrealistic gameplay is not tied to weapon spam rules of IRL building, so with the weight saved from cutting the number of pistons down, you can have more weight to put into better motors, heavy components or more weaponry. In addition to this, you might want to move your burst motors and swap them out for snapper 2, since your wedge is too steep to get under most bots, which means your weapon cannot come into play. With lower down smaller bursts, you'll be able to get your wedges low enough to exploit any low ground clearance. Remember to build to the weight limit. Change the normal Z-Teks for high powered ZTeks. Remember that all motors in Stock drain the same amount of battery power regardless, so you don't need to change any batteries, unless you're using more than the required amount for a heavy-weight.

I'm aware that this is a lot to take in, but just take one step at a time and you'll have it. Also, I would also recommend reading this if you haven't already. This should contain want you need to know about Stock building in general and without using CF: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm

It will be IRL antweights
Have fun getting entries for that
It's IRL, it'll get entries.
Ok that's true IRL will get a lot of people intrested. It's just that antweights is such as an odd category too base it around. I can see it being quite difficult for some players to build too that weight catogorey. Although what do I know

I doubt many users will enter antweights, like I like IRL and even I'm not interested in that

No offense but I have to agree with Hop here...but perhaps everyone else will join!
Look, I know how much you want to go forward with DSL-IRL Antweights Superbot and I'm not stopping you from doing so. But maybe you should think about what other users want for a tournament and also building up hosting trust between said users, instead of jumping into the idea straight away. You could start out with maybe doing a Heavyweight or Lightweight IRL tournament first to get users attention and trust, before attempting to do an Antweight tournament.

I'm glad to hear that your team manged to sort out some of the drive issues with SMIDSY. It's a shame that SMIDSY did have a few mechanical faults such its safety link being removed, battery problems and out of all issues, a glove getting stuck in your bot. But it sounds like you still had a good time regardless of what was the outcome.

Contests / Re: VOTE BOTM JULY 2018
« on: June 26, 2018, 08:19:05 AM »
Thoughts and opinions:
1. Feels like a poorly executed joke more than being a proper bot. This bot almost looks like if someone was trying to speedrun RA2, instead of building a bot from scratch.
2. It's a good attempt. The front spinning weaponry does have quite a bit of power behind there. But the use of battle axes for the hammers instead of razors and the wedges being too close together, is what kills the bot potential for me.
3. Very nice bot, with a good mix of tri-bars with iron spikes, razors and some good wedges. This feels more like a bot to beat, could do well in a tournament.
4. A bit of an odd bot with all the weaponry being more of a huge mix and match, instead of putting the focus on one or two weapon system. Never of less, it still holds up for a freak bot.

Sounds like good news. It will be nice to see an old admin and notable bot builder back on the forums again, though it depends if he really does return.
