Robots Showcase / Chatham Challenge Belt - Day 1 (Frenchiest Fries!)
« on: July 05, 2021, 02:00:52 PM »
Hellooooooo everybody.
Its beetleweight tiiiiiime. For the past X amount of months I've been making 2 beetles and over the last weekend one of them competed at Rapture Gaming Festival down in Kent, The Frenchiest Fries.
(If you haven't watched the event, here's a link to Jevan's channel which has them, Here! Jevan killed it all weekend. So many thanks to him!
SO
THE PLAN WAS SIMPLE. WIN FOR THE BOYS.
Heres, what happened.
The format is round robin in groups of 4 in the heat, with the top 2 advancing to playoffs. In our heat we had; Igor, Toxin & Pain Per View.
In our first fight we had Igor (44:06). For this fight, we originally intended to use our own wedges, but they were last minute, dogsh** Gr2 titantium. Luckily for us, Tweedy off Toxin let us use his forks for the fight (Big thanks lad). We also decided to run our fleaweight wedge (Many thanks to Craig for driving that!). It really turned into a pushing match with us getting stuck at one point, needing a unstick. During this fight the big bots were having drive issues, as we discovered after, the cans of the motor would get pressed into by the wires, locking up the drive sometimes. Ultimately the fight ended in Igor getting pinned against the wall and counted out. Not the best way to win, but its what we gotta do! The Igor team were super nice and our pit table neighbours, so I hope there were no hard feelings!
Second fight of the heat, Toxin (2:40:20) . Crooked Tweedy had taken back his forks! Understandably, he was clearly shook :)! During the fight, I was propped up about a minute on the wall and had assassinated my link, whilst I was out of it, Toxin lost one half of drive at some point during the fight and Sev took it the full 2 minutes, losing a back plate in the final seconds. We lost the JD and that put us at 1-1, but nothing electrical wise had died! Was an honour fighting Tweedy, dudes a goat when it comes to building bots <3
Heres the damage Tweedy did.

Wedge chip damage
Our next fight was against Pain Per View (4:39:15), chunky undercutter. For this fight, if we won, we'd advance to playoffs, if not, it'd be a rumble to decide winners.
I think we still had drive issues going into this fight, I'm not sure 100%. However, the fight was over rather quickly. I had pushed PPV into the wall and as he ramped over, caught my link. Sev then after a few shots got stuck crabwalking around by the pit and couldn't escape and got counted out. So 1-2 and put into a rumble. PPV's belt came off right at the end, but alas was little too late. No components lost however, just more of the drive issues as either a result of the ziptie getting cut or just general issues.
For our rumble (6:37:44), they had swapped around the 9 bots in the same situation, giving us random draws. In our rumble we had Pain Per View and the Rovengers.
Having a chat with the guys on the Rovengers, we decided to team up (Sorry Rob!). Rovengers is another cluster and they used their wedge and brick bots in this fight.
As far as damage to us, again our drive locked up at times and we lost a side guard. But, the damage to PPV's weapon from losing the belt, was enough for us to advance to the playoffs!
Here's how they looked after day 1
