Modifications / Coloured Components
« on: December 28, 2018, 01:27:49 PM »
Hello all, SagarisRa2 and I have been working on a pack for a set of coloured weapons, components, etc. So far we have typhoon teeth of both sizes and beaters of all sizes.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd download and test out the pack, letting us know any feedback or issues you may have.

In the future we're looking to add these components and many more. (Wheels especially)

Tutorials and Tips / BFE - A beginner's guide
« on: November 14, 2018, 09:35:33 AM »
BFE - Beginners guide.

BFE (Bot File Editing) is the process of adjusting the parametres of a given component using the .bot file.

To start with I recommend looking at Craig's guide to the bot file, in which he dissects the bot file itself, showing what each part does. https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/guide-to-the-bot-file-(re-up)/

Software you'll need.
Notepad++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Changing the chassis height.
Changing the height of the chassis is a rather simple task. It is stored as a decimal point somewhere shortly after "Chassis". (The number of lines depends on the amount of points your chassis has)

To start with you'll want to create a chassis, example below.

BFE 1.PNG

Then you'll want to export it, this can be done by selecting the bot in the team HQ, then clicking "EXPORT". Navigate to your "Robot Designs" folder, in which you can open the .bot file using Notepad++.

BFE 2.PNG

Once opened, you'll want to find the word "Chassis". Once located, look for a decimal point number. That is the value of your chassis height, highlight this, then press Ctrl+H. This brings up the Replace function. Adjust the "Replace this" to the number you want it to be, then click "Replace All". Then save!

BFE 3.PNG

YOU ONLY NEED THE DECIMAL NUMBER ON THE LEFT, IGNORE THE RIGHT HAND NUMBER

BFE 6.PNG

Open up your RA2, then import the bot you just saved. Tada!

BFE 5.PNG

Position Adjustment
Again, this is a super simple process, even more so than the previous one, specifically in building extenderbots.

To start with place the component (for this example I'm using "Extenderstart" to showcase the process better.). Then export the bot once done so.

I tend to think as bot building as a grid, in which components move on an axis. When opening up the bot without moving the camera, the axis will look like so.

BFE 7.png

When opening up the bot file, you should be able to find the components section, located near the end of the file.

BFE 8.PNG

We are looking to adjust the X, Y & Z values of the component in question. Each component in the bot has their own set of variables found above the name of the components, highlighted below

BFE 9.PNG

We are looking to adjust the line "0 0 0". This is the position of the component. X Y & Z respectively.

BFE 10.PNG

Remember that 10cm in the game is 0.1 on the file. Keep this in mind when you're adjusting the value.

Save up, and re-import your bot. If it doesn't move in the direction you intended to, you might have used the wrong column.

BFE 10.PNG

Here's the example from earlier, with the motor moved +0.4 (40cm) in the X axis.

BFE 11.PNG

Changing the component
For this, you want to change the .txt name in the bot file of the component you have, to the one you want to change.

BFE 12.PNG

This can be difficult as you need to know the name of the component in the file name. You can do this easier by attaching the component you want to change it to, to the bot, then copying that .txt name over to the component you need to change.

Hopefully this helps with your BFE. Any questions, just post a reply and I'll certainly try to answer them.

Challenge Board / Challenge Belt - September 2018
« on: September 05, 2018, 04:23:01 PM »
Hello once again,

The challenge belt will be the same as last time. Rules below however, after this month, things will be different. It is no longer monthly, you can challenge the belt holder at anytime, similar to that of the original title system, in that belt's meta with any other features being up to the challenge itself.

Rules.
There will be 4 metas that you can enter. DSL-S, Stock, IF and DSL-IRL. Weightclasses will cycle each month. LW, MW, HW, SHW. Not in that order though.
You can enter as many of the different metas as you want.

DSL-S is currently held by: NightRaven Shade.
DSL-IRL is currently held by: MrBk5545.
IF is currently held by: Mystic2000.
Stock is currently held by: Badger.

The month's weightclass is LW.
Arena is Robot Wars 2016
You have 2 weeks
Judges for IRLness this month are: TheOrcCorp and Pokebro. Cheers lads.

Good luck to all.

DSL-S
Plerco - Tungo
8Bean - Kachow

DSL-IRL
PrimevalMamba - Be More Chill
Tails. Inc - Mini Outsider
Pokebro14 - Casual Game
Plerco - Ionizer & Afterburn
Billy5545 - Stab Runner

Ironforge
Plerco - Bus

Tournament Archives / Middleweight Mixup 2.
« on: August 21, 2018, 05:08:10 PM »
MM2.png

Middleweight Mixup, is back. Bigger and badder than ever. Are you ready?

General Information.

MW
DSL-IRL
Ai-ing your bots is encouraged, though I am able to do so. If unable to, I'll contact you about it, you can either replace it or withdraw.
Once a robot is accepted, you have one update to the machine, skin changes however, are permitted from the rule.
If all spots aren't filled I'll allow for 2 enteries per person, this will be first come first served.
I'm looking for 64 bots in total, allowing for 2 enteries per person.

Build Rules.

SnS and thwackbots are banned.
EternalFlame.py is banned.
Defensive armour is banned (ie: sledgehammer armour).
Clusterbots are allowed, and must be within the weightlimit, combined. Swarm style bots are ok, but due to Ra2 being.... Ra2, only 2 bots at a time per fight.
No burst limit, just don't be stupid with it and make the bot look like utter trash.
Geese's motor fixes are good.
DSC's IRL pack is good.
Component freedom is good.
BFE is good.
Shell spinners now must be interesting to look at, I have the right to reject them based on the grounds of them not being interesting enough

CB2 components

Battle Rules.

Arena: Robogames Arena
Battles are 3 minutes.
Robots that do not show controlled movement for about 30 seconds will get eliminated. (ie: Spinning on 1 wheel isn't controlled)

In the event that the match lasts the full 3 minutes with no clear winner it will go to the judges descision.

Judging criteria.

11 points for the fight that is split between the bots for each catagory. (ie: Damage 5-6 Aggression 7-3 Control 11-0)

Format, to simplify stuff, standard double elimination bracket.

You can enter as many of the different metas as you want.

Ra2Winner is the current holder of the DSL-S title, the other titles are up for grabs by anyone.

The month's weightclass is HW.

If this version of the challenge belt is successful, we'll continue on with it. If not, we'll be reverting back to the previous system.
