Discussion / Re: IMPORTANT: this will save RA2« on: January 05, 2017, 04:47:02 PM »
Oh man I would love to see this happen. Since I still haven't learned to AI yet, I test all my robots through manual driving, and I dare say I'm fairly good at it.
It would be very interesting to see how the metagame would change, going from AI battles to human battles. One thing I can think of that I don't think anyone's mentioned yet is attack timing: the AI will just fire an axe or a flipper willy-nilly, whereas a human can time the blows for maximum impact, and also gauge how much battery/gas they have left and adapt their tactics. So you could definitely have more strategic battles in that way. There's also the matter of melee battles: you can decide which opponents to take on and which to avoid rather than the AI driving around attacking things at random. Arena hazards would come into play more, pushing power would come into play more... it would definitely be fun to do, and fun to watch. Sadly, I have no idea how to netcode. 644

New year, new bots? lolnope
Firstly, I've given Defcon a major overhaul:
Now weighs 795.0kg. The next step will be giving it a paintjob that doesn't suck. I'm thinking blue-and-yellow like the original RWRA2 version. I've also given Disquiet an overhaul. Instead of a DSL disc that hovered two feet above the extender frame and looked stupid, it now has a drum with cutting teeth that fills the space much more nicely. I also BFE'd the chassis height down to make it look neater, as I did with Torquish Delight. Now weighs 244.0kg. Again, next step is to give it a proper skin. 645

It's not that bad. The front wedges don't look too well-aligned though. If you use RA2CF you can get rid of the restriction on how many pieces you can link together, and you might be able to make the flipper look neater rather than having that sticky-outy bit in the middle.

Real Robotics Discussion / Re: Robot Wars Series 2 Discussion Thread« on: December 30, 2016, 01:39:48 AM »Also what's up with all the bots exept freaking Dee using all the same wheels? has there been some kind of restrictment? All bots had to be 2 WD with the same wheels and the same motors? There might have been, just to save everyone time, money, and effort. I noticed they were all using T64s and had exposed wheels (though I think the second one is more for spectacle). Appart from those rants I'm glad Ellis finally made a reliable spinning robot :P Good work on that machine. I don't think we will ever see them againMaybe not, but perhaps that means he's also got the kinks in Pulsar worked out? I hope so. It'd be good to see what it's capable of when it's not stopping every five seconds. 654
Real Robotics Discussion / Re: So, why do we all hate Chomp?« on: December 29, 2016, 01:15:53 AM »
TBH I kinda liked Chomp's Season 1 appearance, even if it did crap. The Season 2 version is way too unstable - it needs to be flatter and wider - but it's amusing in a dumb kind of way to watch it fling itself all over the arena like a mad thing. It may not have deserved its win over Disc-O-Inferno (for which I think we should hate the judging criteria rather than Chomp), but it deserved its win against Bite Force after that precision hit.

I think he meant anarcho-capitalism (I'll post a picture to illustrate when I get home but your bot vaguely resembles the anarcho-capitalist flag)

I updated Chernobyl's wedges, but that's a minor update not really worth showing off. I do, however, have two other builds to show off for Christmas!
Firstly, I rebuilt Bluebird (again). It's still powerful and well-armoured but hopefully now looks even better. Secondly, inspired by all the thwackbots in Sword of Glory, I decided to try building a DSL version of my semi-infamous RA3 axlebot Torquish Delight. Unlike the original, this one's a pure SnS, with a big-ass hammer. I BFE'd the chassis height so the wedges at the back would line up properly, and RA2CF helped with the thwacking arm (though it's still not perfect). I'm also gonna try making an extenderbot version of my hammer/pusher hybrid Valkyrie, though I don't know how well it'll end up going. I'll keep you posted. Merry Christmas! |
