Most of my building recently has been focused on incremental tweaks for PWS - shuffling Graf Eisen's wedgelets forward and bumping its chassis armour up, for example - so not much I could really show off. But thanks to Cringus' WWRA2 thingy, I've finally gotten a new horizontal spinner built, based on the previous version of Discord but not dogsh** slow. And since I've been here 3 1/2 years, I figured it was about time I lived up to my username... Full name is "Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious" - which is what I hope this thing will cause its opponents. And yes, there is a JPS logo on the underside

Fallen: How the **** does this crack 600 kilos? Should’ve had the crab here smh
Fallen: We’re here to do King Crab justice. By beating the sh** out of this thing.
Fallen: I'm, surprised F1 didn't enter King Crab. But I would like to see how Fallen will fare.
Unfortunately King Crab is Dark Red, not regular Red, and Dark Red was already taken. I guess I could have reskinned it, but it honestly didn't occur to me. Plus I spent the latter half of signups running myself into the ground frantically re-skinning things to try and take one of the other open slots only to constantly get ninja'd. Kinda sucked out my desire to enter. There's always next time, though.

Lythronax vs Storm Zero vs Cujo is quite possibly the worst fight I've ever seen in RA2. Not that that's your fault, of course, but... yikes. What's even powering Storm Zero's weapon?

Finally made a front-hinge I'm happy with design-wise. Had to put a lot of thought into how it would look. Performs pretty well, too.

Glad to see this finally getting underway! You still doing the mobility rules where knocking one side worth of a bot's wheels off counts as a KO and such?
Looks like it, yeah. Razor was counted out as soon as Ephemera tore its right-hand wheels off.

Is it just me, or are the video settings in the 05 February build totally broken? The game defaults to 1024x800 with medium graphics, and reverts back to that no matter what you set it to. It also opens in fullscreen even when fullscreen isn't ticked.
Typical, I can finally play the game in decent quality and it's forcing me to play in potato quality again 😂

I'm just wondering about why brushless motors would be deemed to break more easily.
Because they do... at least, currently. As kix said, Pulsar/Magnetar exclusively used brushless components, and it was one of the most unreliable combat robots I've ever seen. It was an incredible piece of engineering, and very powerful when it worked, but being cutting-edge has its drawbacks. If I have some spare time at the weekend, in between PWS fights, I gotta try out the latest build. Hollow cylinders in particular are a godsend, and something I've been wanting for months.

"Last" as in "most recent" or last as in "final"?

First new bot of the year. Well... sorta new. Hop requested a Bluebird remake, and I just so happened to have an idea. Same basic design as the 2019 version, but with the 4WD from the very first version back in 2017. Not only does this keep it stable, but the larger rear wheels give it a neat party trick: if it's flipped upside-down, it turns into an angled spinner and can still hit things! The downside is that it's kinda slow, as there was no way I would have been able to work NPCs into it. Got a couple of other ideas in the pipeline, maybe I can get them done over the weekend. Feels good to be building dumb sh** again.

Hexide may not be the most effective robot I've ever seen, but damn if it doesn't look cool. You'd think it was a genuine classic Robot Wars entrant, and I mean that as a compliment.

I feel like the simplest solution would just be to make a "dual" variant of each motor, like the 2-mag, 4-mag etc. from DSL. That way, it's still technically one motor, so it doesn't require any changes to the existing game mechanics, but it has the same stats as two motors joined together.

All Reading Steiner had to do was not flip itself upside-down and it would have won. And it flipped itself upside-down THREE TIMES. That last one was sheer terrible luck, but it shouldn't have gotten to that point. Well done to Eight, though, that's a formidable design.
I'm gonna gather together some of my more popular and/or entertaining builds and throw them in for Overload. I'll send over the latest version of Deathstalker as well, for when Series 5 rolls around.

An event focusing entirely around endurance?
My time has come.

How come the countdown in the Proxy v Sadlads fight was so much quicker to begin than the one in the Proxy v Streak fight? I swear Proxy was batting Streak's lifeless corpse around for a full thirty seconds before the timer appeared, but in the final Proxy only had one wheel for 5-10 seconds before the timer appeared. Was there a havok during the Proxy-Sadlads fight, or were you just enjoying watching Streak get disintegrated? :P

My brain is melting.
Welcome to game development! It's 1% fun and 99% slamming your head against a concrete wall.

I'm not sure about the mixture of beaters and Typhoon teeth on the same disc, or the thinness of the wedges on Night Fiend. I like the idea behind Slam and Slem (and also the Re:Zero reference), but I think they'd look nicer if the dustpans were wider, and extended all the way to the edge of the wheelguards. Dunno whether you'd be able to find the weight to be able to do that without making them more fragile, though.

and hope to see you entering tournaments soon!
Ok, so this might be a stupid question, but how do I? Do I just message the tournament host on Discord?
Most tournament hosts will state in the signups thread how they want entries to be sent to them. Discord is a safe bet, but you can usually also message them here on GTM and send the bot file as an attachment. Fuse and Bramall are looking pretty good, btw. Bramall's design may be simple, but it's nice and clean, and I like the multicoloured bar.

Are you an IRL competitor?
Apparently, yes: I am a member of Black Dragon's team, I see it everyday
I know plenty of people have made the leap from GTM to real robot combat (Somebody, MikeNCR, craaig...), but this is the first time I've seen someone make the opposite leap. Good to have you around - and great job with those replicas!

Wow, you're off to a great start. And not a single messy spinner in sight!
I love the way you've designed Yeet-o-Matic with a gap for the wheel, I love that kind of aesthetic. The redesigned flipper looks great, though you should shuffle the motors closer together so the panels are touching, rather than leaving a gap in between them. To answer the question: double Beta motors are banned in most tourneys, you'd be allowed to use double VDMAs but I don't know what size you'd be able to fit in there. You can fix the flippers glitching through the floor when self-righting by putting extenders underneath the panels, like you did for Tectonic, but I honestly really like the "spikes" on Yeet-o-matic, so please keep those!
It's not often you see bots like Boombox with such oversized wheels, so points for originality. You asked about how to make the wedges more effective: the answer is to mount them on hinges, angled so that the tips are slightly lower than the bottom of your wheels. You might need to save some weight in order to be able to do so, but I'm not sure what to suggest in that regard.
Tectonic may be simple but it's beautifully clean, and I agree, super-flat bots are nice :D I'm concerned about its battery life, though: two long batteries just isn't going to be enough for a 4WD robot with two bursts. In my experience you'll want at least one more battery in there, maybe two.
Finally, a general piece of advice: if you resize the skin template to 512x512 or 1024x1024 after you export it, you can make much more detailed skins that won't look as blurry. Your skinning is already very good, I'd just love to see it at a higher resolution.
Hope to see more from you - and hope to see you entering tournaments soon!

How come Beta was decently fast in its first two fights, but then in the heat final it was suddenly glacially slow like it normally is in DSL? That doesn't seem fair, especially since it lost as a result.
