Clay Platte Home Educators. We are a team of Homeschooled robot builders in the 15 lb. weight division.
As of now we have participated in 2 BotsKC events(With a third on the way) with 2 different robots.
The first is the Stop sign of death. We called it "Showstopper" just for kicks... It kinda stuck.
Kinda a bad view eh?
Well, here you can see it in action.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3ZiUMCrG7M&index=4&list=PLZD_GrExnnNYrZDebLSXhZm6jX9gw26-DWe wanted a simple approach for our first battles. The original plan was to fit a lawnmower blade on top. That would've been fun. But weight restraints aided in preventing that.
However, a huge flaw was, our armor bent, and made us high centered. Immobilizing us multiple times.
Our strategy was simple. ABUSE THE 10 SECOND PIN LIMIT! This abuse cause some controversy and... they nerfed us. In our second and third battles (Including the one above) the rules were changed so we had to pin them for 5 seconds, then let them free and let them get away. Overall, we got 3rd place in a 5 bot tourney (With one bot not working)
Year 2 we decided to have an actual weapon! However, we didn't have much to go for in terms of parts.
Thus, "Spare Parts" was born!
Here it is in action.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzGoELtR6as&list=PLZD_GrExnnNaIl6SHLMFdt4RO-cc5FiGj&index=14As you can tell our opponents that year were... unique.
As for our bot, we found the weapon to be ineffective. Perhaps wedglets could've been a good idea.
On a side note, we fought against the eventual champion in Round 1 and won! That was an achievement honestly.
With double the roster this year, (Meaning 10 bots) we pulled off 3rd place AGAIN! Should we proud or sad?
Anyway with year 3 on the horizon, we're looking for another new design.
Hopefully we'll do better than 3rd this year.
