Discussion / Re: stop hosting rumbles

tldr: the slots for selecting robots get progressively more unstable and there's nothing we can do to fix them. it's not actually the amount of robots in the arena that's causing the issues like we thought

even larger and heavier items like wheels aren't stable in the last slot

The fact that they're basically just a coinflip of who gets ganged up on should be reason enough to stop doing rumbles, let alone the fact they make the game sh** itself on top of that.

Unfortunately, I had to reject a couple, mostly just due to stuff clipping with the Chassis that would make it look unrealistic.

Rejected: Nabi - Lajonet fran Norden (Motors clipping through the chassis)
Pocket Jake - Decap (Gearbox clipping through chassis)
WillOfForce - Rest in Piece (Motors clipping through chassis)

That stuff is normally legal in IRL tournaments.
I've seen one of the 3 of these and the drive motors were clipping pretty egregiously through the bottom panel of the robot. IDK about the other 2 but he was right to reject that IMO

Another bot updated. Cicada this time. I know quite a lot of people like this one, and I do too, but it needed some changes. First off I cleaned up the panel work. Stuff fits together much better now. One thing I never liked about the previous iteration was the big dumb granny wheels it needed to run inverted, so I've ditched invertability completely in favour of a srimech powered by a slow mag (the green bit on top is the srimech. Took some fiddling to get the whole thing in weight but I got there by optimising my extenderwork. I plan to skin the microvore at some point too to match the theme better but for now I'm happy with this thing.

Small update. Reprofiled the front wedge to look better and also gave it more batts so it doesn't run out in like 10 seconds now. I also updated it since this screenshot to get rid of that little bit of the black panel that's poking out of the front of the flipper, but I can't be bothered taking another screenshot to show that.

No way this thing will be combat effective as it's light on armour, drive and weaponry, but I'm really happy with how it looks

Another older bot updated. I was quite proud of this one at the time again, but it definitely didn't age that well. I'm really happy with what I've been able to do with it though. The theme was vaguely Tron related and I think I accomplished something that captures that whole aesthetic this time. It prolly doesn't have enough battery life but I'm not that fussed tbh.

If there's ever another tournament like Forgotten Worlds where you enter 2 bots yourself to make up a tag team, then this and Monolith could make a neat themed team.

Said it in the discord but I really like this. The usage of the mechavore motor not just as a weapon motor but also to give the bot an interesting shape overall is really clever. I love when components get used for purposes that you wouldn't immediately think of.

Would be really neat if you could somehow replicate that shape in extenders or maybe OBJ it or something so you could have a version you can put in tournaments though as it's a really cool design and I think it would be neat to see it fight stuff.

If I had to pick out something you could improve I'd say maybe the rear end. I think using drums instead of the extender setup you have there would get you a cleaner look, assuming they fit properly.

All in all though nice work  :thumbup

Wait, the extender "piston" for the flipper can clip the beta burst? That's still IRL?
I mean it's purely a visual thing to make the bot look better. Can easily be ditched if someone has an issue with it.

But then having no piston may be less realistic if anything so swings and roundabouts innit

I've never seen anyone have an issue with this type of thing for what it's worth
That makes sense. Can I get away with stuff like that when entering IRL tournaments?
Depends what it is really. A ram for a flipper like this I'm sure you would, but other stuff maybe not. All depends on the circumstances

I updated an incredibly old bot for some reason. Cascade was one of the first extenderbots I ever made, and also one of the first bots I was truly proud of. It was well received at the time and I finally decided to do an update. Did my best to keep the essence of the old one while bringing it in line with my current build standards by having sh** actually fit together properly rather than having gaps everywhere. Fairly happy with it.

Will be entering this and watching with interest in how all these changes to the current standard ruleset affect battles. Should be interesting.

Some changes. Added an axle for the weapon per Naryar's comment, swapped to a much more effective wedge setup, and swapped to a black drum which I don't think looks too awful considering the wheels are also black. I tried both gold and marine grey drums to match the rest of the bot but they both looked weird

I always thought Delta's comments was simply harmless.  Nuff said.

Anyway, New Zealot looks quite solid, I never did like the original's variant with the teeth, mainly cause of how they were placed.  Beaters seem nicely fit, but I almost would love to see some color added to it.  It's mainly the basic drum skin always looked ugly and I can never get over that.
I did try making the drum coloured at one point, but I thought it looked weird. I agree that the texture of the default drum is weird with those odd lines on it, but I quite like the colour of it

IDK why you're getting mad at Delta. His comment was devoid of feedback or information but at least it was actually related to the showcase, unlike some others  :dumb)
