New robot: A sort-of not really remake of All Torque

For reference:

Here it is without the paintjob, because why not:

This is my first try at doing weld lines from scratch, and I think they went alright for the most part.

Bethesda forced the 75% going to valve/bethesda
According to this thread that isn't true, and Gabe either didn't know or lied about it:

and how the heck does this entice people who put up paid mods to update them when they inevitably break after game patches?
If anything it encourages people to put up something they made very quickly or stole for quick cash. The quality of the paid mods out already is evidence of this, as can be seen in this gallery:
http://imgur.com/a/bqcla?gallery (warning, long gallery, lots of images)
I've heard that mod authors on the Nexus are taking down their mods because they're afraid someone will steal them. This system has no redeeming qualities at all.

Yes the donate button would be perfectly fine
but then valve/beth won't get 75%
In an ideal world they wouldn't be taking that at all, but obviously that wouldn't happen, so I think having some of the donation go to valve/bethesda would be an acceptable compromise.
Also one thing I didn't mention is that the current system has a 24 hour refund policy, so by having the donation button instead of the paywall we would have more time to test any mods downloaded before putting any money towards it.

It sounds like valve is helping the modders get cash doing what they love, but the modders only gets 25% of the cut. I can also see this creating a less friendly environment for modding if it becomes about the monetary value instead of the passion. There's also zero quality control and modders can put up parts or entire free mods on the paid section to make a quick buck at potentially no compensation to the original author. This just has bad idea written all over it and I hate to see people like EA follow suit.
Totally agree. I feel this whole issue would be solved by a totally optional donate button. That way every mod stays free, valve and greedy greedy bethesda can still take a cut of the donations (although it would be great if they didn't it's clear that won't happen), and modders are still supported. This also would do a lot to cut out those people that would take a mod from the Nexus and claim it as their own for quick cash.

Contests / Re: Vote BOTM Apr 2015

Are all these robots built in DSL or Ironforge? Or don't you have specific rules for the BOTM?
These are all robots built in DSL3 beta, which has some similarities to Ironforge but is overall not as polished and complete.
Every month's BOTM has different rules, which you can check in the relevant thread. These were the rules for April: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=17558.0
And if you want to enter for May the rules can be found here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=17638.0

Those parts are really well re-skinned. Skin is a little low-rez for me, but I actually really like the colour scheme, and the robot overall.

I'm assuming the free hat must be someone else's robot scraps.

But yes, Hatchet looks great and Mute looks lovely too.

Well, I may as well post my hastily put together Battlebots X team:
LW - Trireme:

Close up:

MW - Blood Eagle:

And back:

This was originally going to be a bit like Drillzilla, which is where the front claws came from.

HW - I didn't have time to make a good heavy unfortunately. I was going to enter Karnivore but it would occasionally havok for no good reason and I couldn't fix it in time.

SHW - Nargacuga:

You've seen this one already, but I altered it slightly so that it drives a bit better, has better armour, and a more powerful weapon motor.

I don't expect these bots to come out on top, but I hope they at least will provide entertaining matches.

The best replicas available for download now are (IMO) in Wham's Robot Wars pack, which also needs you to download and install the DSL3 beta.
Here's a link to Robot Arena 2 1.4 (install DSL3 over this): https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=4
Here's a link the the DSL 3 beta: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/DSL3beta1.rar
Here is a link where you can download the Robot Wars Pack: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=13673.msg627667#msg627667 (Install this last)
Remember to un-tick any box on the download sites saying something like "Download using our download manager", in order to avoid bloatware.

Edit: If you want to play as the robot wars bots as well as against them you will have to take the robot files from the AI folder once you've installed the pack, unless someone has a link to the bot pack Wham provided separately. If you have any trouble with any of these steps let us know.

« on: April 03, 2015, 05:22:33 PM »
Just pointing out that I actually didn't enter a HW, so I should be in the SHW signups list instead of HW. I don't want an unfair advantage by entering a SHW in the HW division :P (not that my SHW would even win against a HW)

I think it looks more like a mix of Gravity and Shunt or (obviously) Growler than just a clone. Either way that's fixed the only issue I had with it, so now I really love it.

I love it... except for those wheels at the front. Just personal preference though, everything else about it is great, I especially like the transparent flipper panel.

It seems to be quite heavy for how little weaponry etc it has. What weapon motor is that?
The chassis could probably be a lot smaller, especially if you're just going to make it dull and black and not do much with it skin-wise. What are those claws mounted on as well?

Well, if that last bot didn't float your boat, maybe this one will.

Very much a design inspired by Panic Attack. I also have a version without the eyes and text, which I can post if anyone wants to see it without.

New robot, slightly more cartoonish than usual:

So it needed the wedge for the weapon to work at all, or does the wedge just make it more effective? I know not everyone agrees with this, but the way I see it is that you shouldn't add things to an IRL bot just for the sake of effectiveness.
I can see where you're coming from, but I still think that it would be better off with a skirt hinge wedge that goes either side of the weapons rather than in between, or no wedge at all in order not to cover the skin.

I like it except for that wedge at the front, it just looks awkward to me.
