more stuff for online play:
tinkering with strafe drive, this seems to work somewhat, isn't super fast and doesn't strafe perfectly straight but otherwise is decent enough for a first attempt Totally not Sawblaze ripoff, i feel like control bots will become much more scary now that spikeballing spinners aren't nowhere as dangerous since you can just sit back till it stabilised and lost a lot of control points in the process (assuming we end up ditching win by points for actual JD), not to mention the new ability to actively try flanking your opponent 103

actually the first version of the expanding SNS used linear actuators but it was havoking near immediatly on spawn

more necromancy of useless showcases, but with online being potentially a thing again, i can post those prototypes i had in the works when parsec was first discovered:
Brutality like design, the idea here is that now i can actually disable my spinner when it's unbalanced instead of turning into a spikeballing mess, and wedge + strong drive allows for pins and hazard usage so i'm not completely screwed when one of my axes eventually break off the closest thing to a human drivable melty-brain i could get, is barely able to move tho and is more of a proof of concept than anything, will try working on a properly optimised thing soon HW - Oups! (french for "Whoops!", for hopefully rather obvious reasons), since hasards can now be reliably used by human drivers, builds like this can be used, this has 5 of the longest DSL bars for front armor and VERY fast drive, allowing it to easily tank any hits and smash the opponents against the wall with little chances of fighting back, pits can also be used by this with it's angled skirts almost acting as a dustpan and letting this easy steer it's opponent with the aid of the two side bars that double as wheelguards, i'm thinking a sledge wall version might still be better cause deweaponing abilities. this is unfortunately a failed experiment, the idea was to have an SNS that could change it's diameter mid-match using servos, so that in tight spaces or when a fast pusher tries to corner it, it can be smaller to spin back up without getting snagged on walls and the opponent as much, and when it's in a open space again and opponent is far away, it can go to max extension for maximum sweep and impact power, unfortunately the servo axles aren't strong enough and just flex like crazy making it inoperable will make more designs to toy with the possibilites given by online play soon enough 105

while this is heavily making me annoyed at being french, if this works out and people actually ****ing do this, might be worth ressurecting Artemis after that

yeah RWRA2 actually had powerful enough motors to get IRL levels of power, problem is that RWRA2 is awful for building lol

only thing that's in my ability right now is txt file editing so guess i can **** around with that, i was thinking of getting flat motor out of cheat bot and have a special heavier version of the piglet, buff both of them a ton, give them really low HP and make them basically brushless motors, so you can have small and strong motors at the expense of their durability

Discussion / DSL weapon motors feel terribly weak next to real life« on: June 05, 2018, 02:33:52 AM »
this is something that has been kinda always annoying me when i build IRL is that spinners in this game feel really weak next to their real life counterparts, for instance, when Tombstone hits a bot half of the time said bot is launched a fair distance across the arena, in RA2 ? you're lucky if the mother****er even moved when your HS hits it, VS is the same type of deal, you've seen Witch Doctor pop Rotator in the air in it's first fight in season 2, you saw Touro Maximus ****ing hurl Whoops against the lexan at Robogames, that barely ever happens in RA2 and usually it's only with stupidly over the top weapon systems that take 70% of the weight, most of the time driscs like Magnetar that irl can hurl bots in the air just slowly gutrips people because the motors are too piss weak to make them hit hard enough, the only time i managed to have an HS that hit as hard as real life bots like Megabyte or Icewave do was a MW HS with a ****ing 6-mag powered moros bar, and it looked like sh** cause i had to spend half of the weight in a weapon system with actual force behind it.
so i think one of the fixes that'd help make IRL more exciting and closer to real life would be buffing every single weapon motor in the game, yes even 6-mag/Dual perm, that wouldn't help with people making weapon spam deathspinners, but at least it'd make spinners feel powerful like they do in real life 109

Went overboard desiging for Orc's Wars again:
Burnout, whole top bit is a front hinged flipper powered by 2 storm bursts, it's 967 kg rn and also has a sh**load of extenders so also can't be entered lol 110
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Mystic2000 crap showcase - DSL version« on: May 30, 2018, 12:43:36 PM »
i actually was thinking to myself as i built it "damn if there's ever a BOTM about mythical creatures i could enter this", but this was actually meant for Orc Wars Extreme but probably won't be able to compete cause it'd just murderize orc's computer

jeez this showcase is old and useless, oh well, i got a thing that actually is worth showcasing now:
SHW - Der Eisendrache (German for The Iron Dragon), flatmotor drive (a.k.a very slow) articulated head, and of course fire breath 113

that first video Jonzu posted and that other video with the poker with seven million pistons was probably the first thing i've found on this game, as well as a LP of it by a channel named PredictableChaos, took me months to find how to actually get the game cause 12 year old me was an idiot (rewatching that historical bots vid also kinda makes me wish i was there for the "beginning" of this game's life, just for curiosity)

It is a shame as this is something I wanted to work too doesn't stop the Garry's Wars server tho, on a Saturday you can easily enough deal with a small scale tournament |
