you know, for all the flak that playzooki is getting, I went back through his posts up to june (because I couldn't be bothered to go farther back) and... none of it is beyond light baiting.

Call me crazy and prove me wrong, but I think he's actually been decent as of recent.

I heard one of their games still has a small following despite everything though so youknow, can't be all bad?

Yeah it does but, the problem with that line of thought though is, that's mainly because the game is good concept-wise, not so much because the game is in itself actually good at all. In terms of all the parts that make a game, soundtrack, graphics, online, physics, single player, level design. It's all pretty dreadful. It's kept a following purely on the basis that it's the only one of its type on the market, not because the game is well made.
Sooo, exactly like RA2.
I think that's the joke.

I never said that the console ports would be good, nor did I say they are a good idea but it would create come exposure for those browsing the store in search for their next game to buy.
Fair point, but putting extra funding into ports that would only achieve 'exposure' is not something that a game dev with such limited resources should do. Especially if that exposure turns into "man, this game sucks"
Yeah, I can see it now.
IGN - 5.1 "Mediocre" xD
"7.8, too many robots"
IGN - 8/10, "It's like skyrim but with RAZORS !"

I don't think a console release would be wise, the costs involved are so much higher than PC and it might be hard to get the bot building mechanics right with a controller.

I'm not even going to dignify the possibility of a mobile port with a thought.

Also, we have a group that meets nearly every day on the server to build and battle, so if you're interested don't be afraid to hop on!

This can't be said enough. If you want to check the place out, seriously just drop on in. The best way to learn is to come in, build a bot, get some tips, learn the rules, and watch our bots fight. Once you build your first good bot, the process is like clockwork.

Don't be afraid to build a crappy robot. That's going to happen. My first robot was an absolute crapshoot in the weight that it was originally built for.

If you like robot combat at all- ra2, the robot wars games, the arc robotic roleplay (or whatever y'all do) forums, all the different shows, even if you just got into it by building your own- you're going to like it.

Real Robotics Discussion / Re: BattleBots Season 2 CONFIRMED
« on: November 28, 2015, 04:15:17 PM »
This is great news.  There have been a lot of robot combat TV attempts that never went beyond one season.  It looks like Battlebots has found a new permanent home.

I hope they move the show toward more of a science focus.  Like explain how some of the bots work and the physics involved in their weapons.  For example, Warrior has a really cool and innovative kinetic energy-powered flipper, but you would never know that from watching the show.  You would just think it was springs or something.  And I didn't even notice that Overhaul was a shuffler until RFS pointed it out on Battlebots Update!  This would also create more interesting filler material and calm down all those fans who complain about it.

You can't have a flying unit that weighs more than 10 lbs, so I guess you'd have something like a flamethrower shooting downwards

Which would be completely ineffective, moreso than a normal horizontal flamethrower.  Flames burn upward.  You would end up cooking your own bot.  One of these projectile weapons that are apparently allowed now would work better.  Or maybe a vertical saw blade for the sole purpose of throwing sparks?
if the saw catches and rips it will throw the little flyer as opposed to anything it hits. probably the best use would be dropping something akin to road spikes in the shape of lets say 4-pointed playing jacks to up-end or get wedged in the opponent's drive. but why bother?
I would think that'd count as entanglement devices.

Ooo I've got a big smile on my face.

Having commentary really brings life to these matches. I just wish a certain person would volunteer... can't force him though.

Enter IRL if you want but you will seriously let your team down. The whole point of this is that it's a team effort.

I'd be willing to help commentate as well.
Or, create a team with people who all wish to build IRL, and just have fun.

Be Ray Billings and join to kick everyone's tush or be Mark Setriakan and join to have fun. It shouldn't matter which reason you choose.

Seems like a good idea but I feel like irl should have it's own tournament

The whole POINT of this discussion is that it is one big tournament.
I think he meant season. Either way, I disagree. Enter IRL bots if you want. There's nothing barring you from doing so, as it seems.

I haven't been playing ra2 much but I really like this idea. Especially the commentary; I'm reminded of MassimoV's random commentary RA2 fight videos.

Nah, I decided that if I don't actually do the tournament, then theoretically anyone could have won the tournament so you're all winners.

Seriously though i'm making robot splashes right now. My problem is I still can't ai one of the bots, so I can't roll the brackets. I'm working on a solution.

Why can't you make the brackets without AIing the bots?
because there might have to be a change in the entries

red blur

can you just like

stop

it's not funny and you're making us all cringe hard

on a more positive note, i can't wait to see what you come up with Somebody. Hope to meet you at Moto this year.

My thoughts exactly. Also good luck Somebody, but VS for a first bot sounds mental.

I mean, when these two guys right here are telling you that you need to stop (or rather, not start?) trying to be funny wink-wink-nudge-nudge meme arrows lennyface...

I get that you're trying to be 'one of the guys' with the quips and one-liners but it comes off as really forced and awkward. Just ease into it, man. You don't have to act like an 80's action hero to be liked around here.

I take full responsibility for off-topic'ing the hell out of this thread.
