Game Development / Game I'm Working On: Party Ball - Released + Demo
« on: September 03, 2013, 01:44:59 AM »
Update: Party Ball is available on our site! Yay!

Update 2: Now there's a demo, as well.

A friend and I are making a simple little game we're calling Party Ball. It's visually sparse and absolutely basic in it's design: you're a beach ball rolling up cups of cola on your way to party. Because you can't (or shouldn't) party alone, you need at least eight cups to complete each level. Here's more info on our project.

http://www.indiedb.com/games/party-ball

We've gotten as far as finishing up world one (a beach/seashore with five levels + a bonus level) and started on world two (a forest - on fire). I should probably make a new preview vid with some of the visual fixes that have been done, but whatever for now.

The control gimmick is that you can roll right, down/right and up/right, or pause in place, but the levels aren't straight right; there are hard turns and backtracking points that require controlled bouncing to get you to your goal.

What do you folks think?

Sorry it's not more clear; it's a two-step process and there's a register button on the site's menu bar (below the logo). I really need a more straight-forward method. I saw your site registration (stupidly different from server registration) so if you'll get me your IGN I'll get you access.

Update: NM I found your IGN in your site registration. I'll work on that registration process to make it smoother.

MaMinecraft's still up and about, but we've jumped to a new host (my old one drove me crazy) and we have a new homepage. It has been quiet lately though.

BTW MaMinecraft's doors are open again. We went with a whitelist for a while (we had a rabid spate of griefing) but I recently decided to reopen it up to the public. We have a new page for the server, too.

We - the staff - have... ideas for the (not too distant) future, so that's to be looked forward to.

Lastly, I'm starting an urban renewal project to clean up ruins, relics and rubble from living areas around the server to make the whole server more enjoyable. There are many builds by members who left long ago and have never come back, or old builds by current members in busy areas that have been abandoned, and I'm starting to mine them up.

Just a pic of my friend playing the Heavy, smiling for the camera.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I liked Terraria, but I'm hooked on Minecraft. I wonder why your 'puters won't run it anymore... Java issues, maybe?

Just wondering if anyone else plays Planetside 2. I'm not very good but still get a kick out of playing. It's always fun to run with a coordinated squad or platoon, especially when you're matching wits (and bullets) with a rival squad/platoon. I play TR, usually as heavy assault, with a focus on keeping rival rides out of commission.  I tend to get slaughtered pretty regular, sadly. :vista: (<- that's about how I feel after getting gunned down the 10th time in a row). Anyone else play Planetside 2?

I've been gone since Jesus left Chicago, but what the heck. MaMinecraft is slumping (big surprise, eh?) but we're still active. I made an album with some pics recently. It's not completely up to date anymore, but here it is anyway.

While I'm here, I'm doing a Minecraft livestream on Twitch.tv with my friend most nights. Rather then bug you with that, I've made a series of short clips out of our 13 hour (or so) long videos so far.

Here ya go.

My favorites are the two where I get a creeper to blow a chunk out of our castle. lol Than again, the pig-zombie invasion was funny, too.

And with that, back to the abyss I go.

I have a bunch of vehicle skins. They're nice since I get bored with the rides' stock looks and usually grab a different skin each time I pick one up at Catch a Ride.

It's almost game-breaking how awesome the turret is. It has a short cooldown and I can use it to flank shield-carrrying baddies, tank bad-ass level mobs or just toss it into a room to clear it while I go loot boxes. I love my turret.

You and me both then.

I like sniping too, even as the commando. I usually open fire with my sniper rifle and keep at it until the baddies close in, at which point I toss down the turret. It does a ton of damage while tanking the baddies so I can finish them off. I recently got a nice sniper rifle (while backtracking through earlier areas) that I like.

The blade on it is especially nice when I'm cornered. I also found my first orange-quality weapon this morning.

It's not the best, I don't think. I have purple weapons that do more damage (and are more my level).

What's your favorite gun manufacturer? I like Jakobs, personally. I love the old-school firing feel of them.

Jackpot! :D

Also bottom of last page has some gun (+1 class mod) pics.

I got that once - awesome stuff, huh? Have you gotten all bandits? I went on a run with four straight rolls of all bandits. That sucked.

I have this on Xbox 360 and PC (score!), so I'm definitely reviewing this.  ;) Anyone got anything to pitch in for the review?

Borderlands 2 is fun. I was taking random video clips while playing for my site this morning, and had a short, 30-second (ballistic) exchange that I particularly liked. I was trying to snipe a bandit with my burst-firing sniper rifle but he wouldn't stick his head out. Unfortunately for him, he 'knee-ded' better hiding skills.

If anyone was trying to use the AA Gaming Hub Mann vs. Machine server the last few days, I apologize for the downtime. My host is a pain in the ass.

I wish there was a way to easily (without the use of external programs) make a public server from in-game like you can a LAN one. It would make (edited out to prevent agitating the regal weasel) less useful but it would allow more folks to enjoy playing multiplayer.

You're free to think of it that way, but it's official label will continue to be "AA Gaming Hub MvM Server". This is the only place other then my site where I am currently posting/sharing this, so it's kind of a joint server (in my mind).

EDIT: I fixed the link. Sorry for the confusion.

News for everyone who's interested: I have run a TF2 server for a few months now. Since Mann vs. Machine has been released it's been converted to a full-time MvM server. I understand it's a hassle to get on a public server so, in good faith, I'm opening it up to you everyone. So long as it's treated well, not hacked and abused, I'll probably leave it open. Enjoy:gunz:

Edit: I'm trying to show my server banner but it ain't working. Find to server here.

Edit 2: Sorry, posted the wrong link. :(  Fixed now.

I would like to try a quick vanilla adventure/challenge map, or any off-beat map, with a friend of mine. Anyone got any suggestions for two players? We tried an ant farm map (don't remember which, but I grabbed it off of Planet Minecraft) but that went off the tracks quickly as my friend began burrowing straight down and ignoring my insistence that we try and play the map 'straight' because he said it was too complicated. Sooooo... preferably something simple.

SM...define 'server'. Just as a word, not in any kind of context.
Speaking of context, that question seems odd with no context. I would simply say, "Google it" and be a smart ass but I'm trying to stay out of trouble. Plus it wasn't directed at me so I'll stay out of it.
