Tournament Archives / Chassis Swap-Up - Signups
« on: August 23, 2016, 11:32:06 PM »

Rules:
Stock, Unrealistic, Standard ruleset (BFE, AAM etc banned as per usual)
Heavyweight
16 entrants, 1 entry per person.
Multibots allowed, but if one dies they both lose.
SnS, Crawlers and ghey stuff banned. Unless you do something cool like that SnS flipper.
No more than 20 irons/maces/bear claws on pure HS. Do something interesting.
RO7 break allowed, the one that lets you do a million chassis points allowed.
1 havok restart per match per bot, any further havoks count as a round loss.
No skinned or custom components (but I have sage's skin pack so I'll let that slide)
I can AI, but not very well (ask RedAce about my AI skillz), I strongly suggest you AI your bot yourself.
Bots may not be updated
Arena will be The Trauma Pit
The bye bot is Snake Bite 2

Gimmick:
All entrants must only submit a chassis. I'll reject you if you send something that's impossible to build with or just max size etc. Make it interesting folks, get creative with the paintjobs too.
After everyone has submitted their chassis, I'll then send every entrant a different chassis the the one they submitted
You CANNOT change the paintjob of the chassis given to you.
There will be a deadline after all the chassis have been distributed to get your finished bot back in. Any slowpokes will be replaced by a byebot

14: Sage
15: MNB
16:

Black: Received
Red: Issue (Spot is not reserved)
Orange: Chassis Accepted
Green: Bot Accepted

Signups will end a week from approval, at which point everyone will receive someone else's chassis. You'll then have a week to submit your final bot. Anyone who doesn't submit a bot in that time will be replaced by a bye-bot.
The bracket/group system will be a scaled down version of the PC group/bracket system.

Modifications / Balancing Stock - Stock Balance Patch
« on: August 14, 2016, 11:20:53 PM »
Foreword

I've been thinking about putting out a 'balance' patch for stock for a short while. The problem with stock (as I see it) is that while the building style allows for some really cool and flashy designs (see geice's showcase), it's a huge pain in the ass to build in, and there is only a small selection of viable components for every situation. Hopefully a balance patch could introduce more (if not all) components into the metagame, allowing for more varied bots and a more enjoyable building experience. Just for clarification's sake, this patch/mod would be played with the standard stock building style, NOT DSL-S.

Status

Currently I'm just theorycrafting and getting input on my thoughts. I'm not sure if this will even ever be released, as it may never gain traction in an already small community. Hopefully, however, it will prove to create a more enjoyable game out of stock, and best case scenario it will take over as the default version of stock used in tournaments/challenges

Aims

To make as many components as possible viable in some way, in some situation
To make stock more enjoyable to build in
To widen the stock metagame to be more inclusive
Long term, if it gets enough traction, it can be regularly updated with buffs/nerfs and even introducing new components, causing a shifting metagame that will prevent staleness and will keep builders engaged

Proposed changes for version 1.0:

Special thanks to Mr AS for his help and guidance so far.

Rules:
All bots must be  built using this chassis, which you can dl here:
DSL MW (399.9 and below, not including smartzones)
Combat Arena, hazards off, 3 min fights.
You're allowed 3 modifications to the chassis. A modification would include:
  • Removing a component
  • Adding a component]
  • Moving (or rotating) a component
Chassis may not be resized or reshaped
Otherwise DSL-S standard ruleset
I can AI, but not very well, I strongly suggest you AI your bot yourself.
I reserve the right to decline a bot for ANY reason, and I will do so if a bot is going against the spirit of the rules.
No meltybrain, or custom .py's-SnS, TRFBDs, crawlers and other ghey sh** are banned
No custom components that do not come with a fresh DSL2.2 install, this includes skinned components.
1 havok restart per match per bot, any further havoks count as a round loss.
Bots may not be updated after the first match has been recorded, except AI tweaks or skin changes
All matches are BO1 except the grand finals, which are BO5
If spots are not filled, I may reduce the tournament size or fill spots with standard DSL2.2 bots.

Off-Topic Discussion / My computer is dead, help
« on: July 28, 2016, 02:53:02 PM »
Copy/paste for a homshardware post

My PC is not outputting any video, either through the motherboard or the GPU outputs, to my monitor or a TV, Displayport or HDMI. It is definitely booting fine, as I can hear the windows login screen sound, but I cannot get any video output, not even in the BIOS.

The problem occurred when I tried to change my monitor's refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz in the hopes of fixing a visual bug (which I've encountered many times before, I usually just restart to fix it.). When I boot, my monitor wakes from sleep, and my TV autoswitches to the HDMI input, as thought they are getting a signal, but on both a "No signal" error is displayed.

My GPU is a 970 and I'm on windows 10, if that matters. What steps can I go through to try to fix this? Yes, I've tried restarting multiple times.

Will give prize to whoever manages to fix it.

Not sure what build style you're supposed to use, so I went with the classic DSL-S popup since it's pretty viable in stock style too. I can't test it because my game crashes whenever I try to battle.
