Off-Topic Discussion / So, what's new here?
« on: September 15, 2014, 11:24:55 AM »
I thought I should just check up on this place, and the playground's gone, along with the GCT! The new RW mod by HereticBlue looks pretty sweet too. Has anything else of note happened? Is Jonzu still hanging around here?

Off-Topic Discussion / What should badger upgrade?
« on: September 12, 2013, 01:01:03 PM »

Since it's my birthday (and later Christmas) coming up, I was considering upgrading my PC. The problem is they I'm not sure what to upgrade.

Current specs:
i5 2500k (Sandy Bridge) @ 3.3GHz
nVidia GTX 570 1GB
8GB DDR3 669 MHz

What I was thinking of upgrading to:
i7 3770k or i5 3570k (Both ivy bridge)

or

msi nVidia GTX 680 2GB Twin Frozr

or

16GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper X

Any thoughts? Which would give me the most benefit in terms of FPS (Particularly for Arma 2/Counter Strike GO)? Thanks for your time.

So, in my infinite wisdom, I decided to fiddle with the BIOS of my PC for no good reason. Result: I bricked it.

Anyone know if I can reset my BIOS somehow? I have a Maximus IV Gene-Z Motherboard, and I heard that you can reset the BIOS via USB, if that helps.

I'm also trying to follow this tutorial on how to reset the BIOS, and I'm stuck on step 3, "Find the 3-pin jumper near the power supply on the motherboard, typically labeled "Clear CMOS" or "Reset BIOS"". Where the heck is that? If you can point it out on the pic below, I would be very grateful.

Also, what do these buttons do?

At least I've learned something about computers from all this. Don't go dicking around with your BIOS.

General Support / Well, RA2's died on me...
« on: March 29, 2013, 03:49:21 PM »
After so long of having no problems, every version of RA2 I have crashes immediately on startup, with the 'Robot Arena 2 is not responding' windows error message popping up every time. I've tried running as admi, running in XP compatibility mode, running from desktop, documents, downloads etc. I've obviously also tried a fresh install (from Sage's sig).

Any help?

Off-Topic Discussion / The "I Need Help With Code" Thread
« on: January 28, 2013, 02:24:00 PM »
Because I don't want to make a new thread every time I mess up in a new programming language.

So I'm learning VBscript and I'm getting a compile error every time because apparently there's a loop without a do.

Code: [Select]
Dim no

no = 10

Set obj = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

Do while no = 10
    If obj.FolderExists("..\world") Then
    obj.CopyFile "..\world", "..\Backups"
WScript.sleep 86400000 '1 day in milliseconds, according to google.
Loop while no = 10
But, as you can see, there is a Do (Line 7). So, how do I fix this?

Brilliant game by Introversion Software, on sale on steam now for £1.79 (Even less for you Americans, roughly 2 dollars). Would be very fun to have a GTM Thermonuclear War.

BATracer is a browser webgame similar to some racing manager style   webgames.  However, it is unique in that gameplay centres around the   player as the driver, rather than the team manager. This introduces   multiplayer team work as an important part of success.

It's pretty fun, and it's free. It's worth a look.

So, what about all these rumour of Lewis going to Mercedes?

Just a little program I made in VB6. Credit to NFX for the idea.

From now on, all form and project files will be included with the project. This is so anyone can modify the code, and so if I go full retard mode and delete all the form files (Like I did) I can recover the code.

Off-Topic Discussion / Browser Help
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:58:55 AM »
Lately, Firefox has been freezing for a second every few seconds. This usually occurs after I open youtube.com, and then other doesn't stop even after I close the youtube tab.

Things that it is not:

  • My PC (Or rather, a lack of performance on my PC's part.)
  • My Internet Connection
  • Firefox (Happens with Chrome as well, not even bothering to test with IE.)
  • Sessionstore:Interval
Any help?

Existing Games / Lucius
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:06:53 AM »

Lucius is a 3rd person horror/puzzle game, where you play as a child possessed by the devil. As you make your way through the game, you must kill everyone in the mansion that you live in (from what I can see). And it looks pretty epic. It is due to release in October 2012.

Existing Games / Kerbal Space Program - Viking Approved!
« on: May 06, 2012, 08:28:39 AM »

This is a nice little game in heavy development, but it's pretty cool. Your aim is to land on the moon and go back to Earth (Or Kerbin) alive.

So far, I've been in orbit around the Earth and the Sun. I'm pretty bad in this game.

Off-Topic Discussion / 'Mechtune' music
« on: April 22, 2012, 02:16:38 PM »
Like Chiptunes, but with floppy discs or other computer equipment and using mechanical movement, not chips.

If you find some music like this on YouTube, post the video below and I'll add it to the list.

Off-Topic Discussion / BSOD help?
« on: December 29, 2011, 09:21:57 AM »
I turned on my PC this morning and the display wouldn't show up TV. Just before I went out to buy a new lead it did, but just before the logon screen I got BSOD.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Stop code was:
0x00000050 (0xFFFFF880009AAFF8, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF800032C38, 0x0000000000000000)

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? It starts fine in Safe Run mode, but restoring it to an earlier system restore point doesn't work. If it come to it, would it be possible to wipe the HDD and re-install windows?

Thanks in advance.

Off-Topic Discussion / What OS should I use on my PC?
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:15:35 PM »
As some of you may know, I'm saving up money for a gaming PC. I was thinking today about what OS to put on it. I was going to put on XP, but I hears that more and more games are becoming incompatible with XP. So my choices are:

     ◘Windows XP

     ◘Windows 7

     ◘Ubuntu (Linux)

◘Buy a mac (Very, very, very unlikely)

     ◘Have 2 operating systems.

I will be using the PC for pretty much everything, Homework, Gaming (Both games such as CoD and Minecraft and RA2) and internet.

I will, most likely, also be keeping my laptop with Vista, if that makes a difference.
