IRL building could easily be turned into competition. Just everyone acknowledge the fact that everyone is going to fight to win instead of solely making a cool bot and BAM, you have yourself IRL competitive. The problem with DSL-S is that it has hardly any basis in reality, but IRL has a standard for making robots that would work IRL. It's currently about making cool bots, but you can definitely make a sub-meta in the challenge board where the goal ISN'T to make cool bots, but is to make realistically functioning robots that compete to win and not to look cool. It's easy.

I think removing IRL title fights basically cripples this title. IRL is entirely possible to fight in, i mean, did you see any of my title defences recently? All of those were in DSL and they had many people watching and fighting, and they all happened in legitimate circumstances with legitimate competition. IRL, when you know that everybody is fighting with the intent to win, is a perfectly fine meta.
And the thing is that a "competitive" irl isn't just DSL-S because DSL-S is so detached from real robots it's frankly absurd (just look at Kurt's SHW from his title victory over DSC): jugglers, 6 mechavore vses, spinners with no support etc. are all impossible IRL, yet in DSL-S they are fair game.
Taking IRL seriously and using it as a legitimate meta should be fully allowed. If you're really scared over the champion holding the title hostage in this meta (and that's a non-issue personally) then make it so it can only be fought once every 4 months: if you fight the title in IRL, you have to then fight the next 3 months in other metas. Also, if over 60% of the challengers in the monthly bracket are not willing to do IRL matches, then the title will have to be fought in another meta.
Allows for IRL builders to actually be allowed to compete, keeps those who shudder at the mere thought of IRL builders wanting to properly compete happy, and siphons off IRL builders into other metas during the other 3 months that IRL can't be fought in.
Banning IRL title fights even when both challenger and champion want to is just wrong and shouldn't be a rule. Setting rules that prevent the champion from forcing the title to be fought in IRL may be necessary, but my rules from earlier in this post should cover and solve that.

Yes. the only point of your system is to allow for IRL, but it doesn't even fix the problem. it just makes the whole system convoluted and not as fun. sorry you disagree, but I like 090901s idea (with the caveat that the champion always decides the meta).

It allows for ALL metas to be used, not just the Core 3. It doesn't hurt the system in any way. If you won't run it this way, I would gladly do it, unofficially or officially. IRL can easily be adapted to competition. Simply make it so that the realism rules are more strict than DSL-S's, and that's it. Especially considering everybody is going for the win when they go on the challenge board, and so "tryharding" isn't a problem there cause that's literally the entire point of the challenge board.

You didn't comment on anything else in that post so i'm going to assume you didn't read it. Like I said, if the champion cannot agree with the challenger on a different meta then his original choice from the main 3 is used. This allows the core three to be used as mainstays, and the others to be used so that IRL, Unrealistic IF, all the other oddball metas aren't totally disused and we can have some actual variety.
Is there anything wrong with this proposal or can we just add my system onto 09's and move on?

how is this any different than any other challenge? the champion can just keep not agreeing on anything, and then either the challenger is forced to agree on IRL or the champion doesn't actually get any decision power.

If you had actually read the proposal, you would have seen "champion decides" as an option. As I was saying, the champion sets the original meta for the bracket. Once a challenger is found, if they agree on a different meta, they build robots for that meta. if they cannot agree or prefer the original meta, the robots they built for the original meta are used. This way the main 3 metas are used but if the challenger agrees with the champion who wants to use something different (or vice versa) then you can have the title defended in all metas, which I think is simply the best method because it keeps the Core 3 competitive, but if other metas are suggested and agreed to be used then we can use them. Best of both worlds.

Lets take the GTM Challenge Belt idea 090901 did and slightly modify it:
Firstly, all current challenge board title holders and active competitors from this month go into a bracket. Winner gets the belt. Before each tournament, a public vote is done to decide/moderators decide/champion decides what mod is used for the bracket from the main 3: DSL-S, Ironforge-S, Stock. After the bracket, the title holder can propose doing a DIFFERENT meta, which can be any functioning mod. However, the challenger and champion MUST agree on this. if they don't, the title bout will default through two stages: they will first be given a chance to agree on one of the 3 original mods, and if they can't agree even then then the match is fought in the same meta as the challenger-deciding bracket.
This means that if both the Challenger and Champion agree to do IRL or any other contentious mod, it can happen.
Finally, I'd also run side titles for the seperate metas: DSL-IRL, DSL-S, DSL-U, Stock-IRL (purely for completions sake, even i'm in favour of this title being scrapped), Stock-S (again for completion's sake), Stock-U (or just Stock), IF-IRL (like DSL-IRL only more balanced and less aestheticly pleasing, perhaps the best way to run competitive IRL), IRL-S, IRL-U, Other (Total cluster****. The GTM equivalent of the WWE Hardcore title where anything could happen.)
Some of those titles can be pruned if they aren't actually being fought for, and they'd also help seed people when it comes to the brackets for the GTM Challenge Belt tournament. It also provides diversity in the meta usage, might resurrect a couple of metas, and if the Challenger/Champion disagree/don't want to fight IRL for the Challenge Belt, we'll still have belts that can be used for IRL.
This is the absolute optimal Challenge Board Title system because it allows for everything without unnecessarily restricting, and keeps the Challenge Belt as pure as possible.
Totally banning IRL titles is a frankly stupid idea that I refuse to stand for. it's the most popular meta for a reason.

I see no reason to ban IRL, IF both the host and challenger agree to it. I'm also concerned that the champ can keep the belt hostage in awful metas, bouncing between some gay sh** like Retooled IRL or RWRA2 Standard or Stock IRL
what about a poll at the head of each month? so eveyone can vote? after all, i believe a champion should be able to comfortably go outside of their comfort zone and still excel
Then everyone would vote for teh epic memez categories without any intention of entering.
i think its universally agreed that IRL is banned so stock irl and IF irl are out of the park
the only meme i could see is dsl unreal or if unreal.
I say that it should start out with 3 main metas: Stock, DSL-S and Ironforge as the 3 that can be chosen from as a starting point: then, all challengers and the champion build a robot for said meta. Once a challenger has been decided via the mini-tournament, they and the champion can then discuss if they want to change the meta to one of the side metas, such as IRL, RWRA2, Retooled, IF Unreal, DSL Unreal or anything else. If they DON'T agree, then the original robot and meta the champion agreed to is sent.

If we're not gonna allow IRL, I suggest instead making it so that if both the Challenger (winner of the bracket) and the Champion agree once the bracket is finished, the match can be hosted in DSL IRL. If they agree to not allow IRL, or disagree on the allowance of IRL, then it defaults to whatever meta was set prior to the bracket/DSL-S.

It's vacant, but there's confusion over if Kurt V DSC is still happening. If it isn't, my fight with badnik sets a new DSL SHW champion. If it is, then we may need to do a 4man bracket to decide who wins it. 6 if shield and AS want to take their challenge and de-meme the rules.

I'm pretty sure it's valid because the Kurt VS DSC thread wasn't moving/happening and Shield VS AS's thread came after this thread, but either way i'm sure we can just hold a title unification/un****ing match between the winner of this, Kurt VS DSC and maybe the Shield VS AS one as well.

No. It's the most popular meta, there is no reason to exclude it. IRL may be designed for looks but it's also good for building in a more realistic manner than DSL-S allows, and if you want to make cool bots instead of competitive bots you shouldn't be trying to obtain the Challenge Belt. Otherwise, this idea is great.

Will any of my robots be appearing in the rumble (team and/or traditional)? I ask because in Annihilation Nation, all robots that were submitted for grudge matches were included in the rumble.
I'm gonna have to say, no. It would just make the rumbles even more of a mess than they already are.
I can see the Team rumble being an issue, but why not the traditional?
