Off-Topic Discussion / Re: This is why I "stopped" playing RA2
« on: September 06, 2015, 10:25:40 AM »
everyone pls come back to DSL standard i leave for a year and then people start playing ironforge and i'm too old for this
Flail Ram vs Wram Popup?  Pseudo Crawlers?  Moar Razorz?  What else is there to build in DSL-S?  Even FSnS and TRFBD are not competitive anymore.

Discussion / Re: Why are attachment points labeled by gender?
« on: September 05, 2015, 03:26:07 PM »
I think it's because that's how connectors are labeled in engineering in real life.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_of_connectors_and_fasteners
Although this doesn't seem to serve any purpose for RA2 since there's no actual physical difference between a male and female attachment point iirc, I'm not sure why they chose to make the game work that way.
The odd thing is, in this game the Female connects to the Male, not the other way around.

So for example, razor tip's attachment point is female.

This silly question actually been bugging me for a while.

Is there any reason why they are labeled as Male or Female?  (generic_M, generic_F, axle_M, axle F, and base F)

Half Pipe seem to be the best melee weapon against human.  It push corpses away so you can maintain full speed and ram everything to death in 1 go.

Here's a Vertical Spinner.  Building one on besiege is about 50x harder than in RA2.

EXTREME Fire Sled.  Nearly indestructible and easily mow down buildings and troops alike.  The trick of this game seems to be not building with wood.

Battery setup switch to 3 small and 1 large, instead of 3 small and 2 medium.

According to my half ass observation, getting from 10 amp (bare minimum) to 15 amp seem to make drastic difference in how long it stays at full power, from 15 amp to 20 amp not so much.

Real Robotics Discussion / Giant Robot Dual: USA vs Japan

I think the Japanese robot has too much fancy movement parts, and will end up becoming a liability.  I just hope no one ends up with a chunk of armor like Bite Force in battlebots.

While I never specify the weight limit for UHW or GHW.  I thought I made it obvious that weight class is == 1/2 of DSL weight class.

Of course, I can't promise that Ironforge won't crash with a 2500 bot.

As for piercing vs concussion

Piercing is enhanced with flails for both sides.
Concussion is enhanced with the momentum of your bot.  Concussion will deal more damage when placed on a ram/poker, unless it made contact with enemy weapons on flails.

This is why razor tip, the only non normal piercing weapon, has a stats penalty, we don't need flail rams/FSnS/TRFBD/wram popups de-weaponing everything all over again.

Minor stability fix
Reduces Snapper 3 and DDT2's max speed to 60.
Beta was left unchanged because reducing it's power makes it really suck, so unfortunately you just have to connect more weight to it to prevent the havok.

36
Yeah go for it.  Just a heads up I might nerf the burst motors a bit due to havok complains.

I didn't nerf burst pistons last patch, but I can do it if it's too unstable.

The pistons are fine, it's the burst motors themselves I have issues with - it's just a matter of myself using too little weight on the burst so it havoks when fired (eg heater skirts on snapper plus' and betas)

Also I'd love to see some form of Ironforge Stock AI pack if that's what is being alluded to :P
Yeah my mistake, I meant burst motor.

Piston already been fixed last patch.

I will nerf the burst motors then.

Stability fix

All spin motor slowed by 10%, burst piston max speed reduced.  A necessary evil to keep the game from crashing so much.
