I got rid of the ramps in the metal skull arena, so maybe it'll see more use now. the arena floor skin is a bit crap now but i can't really do much about that

EDIT: Download 090901's version below, it looks and functions better

Modifications / Live Designs AI for DSL 2.2 - Submissions are closed!
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:50:37 AM »
Oh yes, it's back.

Looking back, the first LDAI release was a bit lackluster - Many of the robots in the pack were of poor quality or just not as good as they could be. I chalk this up to a number of factors but mainly it just wasn't that good. I'm sure a number of people enjoyed the first version but it's time to make version 2 for the new DSL.

--THINGS TO DO--
-Build some teams and AI them
-Collect user-made teams and AI them as well
-Edit some UI
-Decide what arenas I'm going to pack up with this (The Replica Wars Arena and my reskinned Death Facility will definitely be in it, unsure if any others will be)

--GUIDELINES FOR USER TEAMS--
-Robots must be of good IRL quality. The 2.1 release had a lot of "questionable" or "just plain bad" robots. I don't want any of those in this pack.
-If your robot designs are alright, but your skins are lacking, I may take it upon myself to skin them myself. If you send me robots without any skins at all in an attempt to get me to just skin them for you that isn't going to fly.
-Included with your team must be a logo, team name and description.
-BFE, CF, cheatbot2, the DSC IRL Packs and any other custom skins you want to make are fine with me. Anything to make the robots look as good as possible. Certain CB2 parts (IE: the Judge Gavel, beta Hammer, etc) will either be toned down in power or banned outright.
-Ant, Beetle and Cruiserweights must be marked with AW- BW- or CW- in front of their names. If I can find the bot-preview editor I'll probably use that to edit their previews accordingly.

As of right now I am currently not accepting submissions.

You can view a full list of teams and submissions here

[cool ass logo.png coming soon]

yeah yeah i know i don't have the best tournament hosting record but just hear me out ok this is gonna be cool

RULES:
- DSL 2.2, Middleweight AND Heavyweight
- One entry per person per weight class.
- The arena we will be fighting in is the Death Facility arena from the Robot Wars RA2 Mod. I'll reskin this at some point between now and the time the SBV thread is posted.
- 2 minute matches
- Double elimination bracket
- This tournament will be held to VERY STRICT IRL Realism standards. None of that borderline crap. Make your robot look like a real robot or it will be rejected.
- Matches that contain Havok will not be shown. If your robot cannot participate in a match without havoking then it will be rejected.
- All glitches are allowed as long as your robot is still IRL-realistic. I will be judging this VERY STRICTLY so do not push it.
- RA2 Component Freedom is allowed and encouraged to make your robots look as good as posible.
- BFE for realism and aesthetic purposes are allowed and encouraged as long as the robot stays realistic.
- Robots must look as close to real-life designs as possible.
- No Flamethrowers, Crawlers or SnS. Thwackbots are fine.
- Multibots are allowed.
- MW Walkers/shufflers can weigh up to 800 kgs, but at least 400 kgs must be used on the walker or shuffler system itself.
- HW Walkers/shufflers can weigh up to 1200 kgs, but at least 400 kgs must be used on the walker or shuffler system itself.
- Swiss Army Bots are limited to three different weapon systems.
- DSC's IRL packs are allowed and encouraged for this tournament.
- Other skinned parts are also allowed and encouraged, as long as they are included in your PM. Make your robot look unique and interesting!
- If your robot looks really bad (like for example a garish box with a weapon slapped on it) then your robot will be rejected.
- I reserve the right to re-skin any robot I think has a bad or low-effort skin.
- I reserve the right to reject blatant re-entries or boring clones of existing robots. Put some effort into making something original, it really isn't that difficult.
- The following Cheatbot2 Components are allowed:

Basically I want you guys to put as much effort as possible into making something that looks fantastic. The art tournament to end all art tournaments. Can you guys do that?

JUDGING
- Fights will be judged on significant attacks and control of match.
- Judging will be done by myself. If anyone has an issue with this then we can discuss it in the thread.

ALL of the robots that participate in this tournament will be included in the first release of Live Designs AI 2.2.

You know how a lot of people seem to have the issue where the game will crash if you try to select a robot or wire something?

It's actually a really simple fix. All you need to do is right click the .exe and select "troubleshoot compatability" and just follow the steps from there. It'll likely suggest for you to run the game in XP mode which solves the issue.

Existing Games / NASCAR AGD Series 2016 - GTM Signups
« on: June 02, 2016, 11:59:05 AM »
(Note: AGD stands for ARC, GTM, and Discord, the three groups I'm running this for. Discord means explicitly the Garry's Wars Discord channel but i thought AGD sounded better than AGG)

Been a while since I did one of these. It's back with a few changes on the logistics side of things in order to make things easier.

Rules:

For this, you can run a team and create drivers to run in it.

TEAMS

Choose a make (Chevy, Dodge, Ford or Toyota)

Choose the number of cars in the team (1-4)

Choose numbers for your cars (0-99 with 00-09 also)

Choose sponsors (must be relevant to 2016 and should be something you would see in real life)

Owners should try to paint their team's cars themselves if they are able. However, I will be able to paint cars for you if you need to.

The mod we will be using is the BullRing 2015 mod. The link below includes a download to that mod as well as paint templates for the cars we will be running.
http://bigdonlinemotorsports.com/Sprintcupseries.html

For your drivers, you must fill out the following stat card:
Aggression:
Consistency:
Finishing:
Qualifying:
Road Course:
Short Track:
Speedway:
Superspeedway:

All cars will have an equal pit crew and vehicle stats, so it's just the driver you need to worry about. You have 680 points to spend. No stat can be higher than 100 and no stat can be lower than 60. The way NR2003 stats work means your stats will vary slightly per race, the number you put in is the high value and the low value will be 20 points lower than that.

**NEW RULE: For every car your team has, your maximum point total per driver will decrease by 20.

You must come up with realistic names for your drivers. It doesn't have to be your real name, but make it realistic. I will not allow any names that would not be passed off as real.

I will allow more than 1 user on a team, but try to keep it just your own made up drivers.

Points system:
46 for first
42 for second
41 for third, etc.
The last place car gets 2 points
1 bonus point if you lead any number of laps
1 more bonus point for the driver who leads the most laps

The season's schedule will be a truncated version of the actual NASCAR schedule, basically removing the second races at every track and adding a third road course:

Since I'm running this for three different groups here, it is likely that there will be more cars signed up than the 42-car limit in each race. If this happens, then there will be three races per race day: two short "heat races" to decide on the field for the main long race, with only the cars in the main race earning points for the race day.

Good luck!

Real Robotics Discussion / Motorama 2016

No thread yet? :c

Happening this weekend. I'm currently en route to the complex.

GTMers attending/competing:
-I have FireArrow and Nocturne
-Nate is running Slim Pickens, Viciously Circular and Thunder Child, plus a fairyweight named Denise (not a typo :P).
-Resetti is bringing his beetle Quicksand
-SKBT has a 30lb version of Riptoff, plus a wacky sportsman drill thing that his roommate made.
-Mike's bringing Algos, Klazo, three sportsmans and Styx.
-TDS will be attending but I don't think he got either of his robots done in time.
-Somebody was making something but I don't think he got finished in time, I think SKBT lent him Drumthing to drive? I'll ask when I get there.

I'll try to keep this thread updated as things happen.

Chatterbox / Petition to demote Naryar
« on: October 20, 2015, 05:20:44 PM »
yeah let's throw some more sh**posts onto this fire

Ok so there's been a lot of discussion of this on skype etc and the main gist of it is that gtm is a cluster****. there is basically NO ADMINISTRATION since ACAMS "retired" and handed the forum over to Trovaner who did a few cool things and then kinda vanished. Since then the forums have been controlled by the mods, Craaig and Naryar being the only active ones. Naryar's been a mod for so long that he actually got most of the moderator rank's powers after going on a banning spree a few years ago. This has reduced his and Craaig's ability to control the place massively, meaning asswipes like Andy can go around spouting crap about race hate and tasteless holocaust jokes without fear of ban or even mute. Now mods can still mute, the problem is that Naryar doesn't seem to know how rules work, which is whipping craaig into a frenzy, as seen by the two screen caps below (credit to Craaig)

tl;dr naryar's power fantasy is nearly single handedly killing the forum

Tournament Archives / Beetleweight Bash MICRO - Signups (ONE SPOT LEFT)
« on: January 19, 2015, 01:13:06 AM »
So yeah, Robot Wars was kind of a disappointment and I'm sorry that happened. The flame just died I guess. However, I've decided I'm going to hold a quick tournament to try to rekindle the interest I had in tournaments.

RULES
DSL 2.1 Standard realism, though IRL bots are more than welcome
Beetleweight weight class (175.0 and below)
BFE, AAM and other glitches that make your robot unrealistic are not allowed.
Cheatbot2 is explicitly banned.
You cannot be entered until your robot is received and accepted
I will accept one update from you, and you cannot send a placeholder robot to reserve your spot.
One robot per person.

This tournament will be running a modified single elimination bracket (see below), with one battle per match to decide the winner.
Robots must show controlled movement.
No clusterbots.
Match-altering havoks (IE: Those that cause a robot to glitch OOTA, flip another robot, etc) will automatically kick the robot from the competition.
Arena will be the SMALL ARENA with HAZARDS OFF.

YOUR ROBOT MUST NOT BE ON THE BOT EXCHANGE PRIOR TO SIGNUPS. YOU MUST SEND ME A NEW ROBOT THAT HAS YET TO BE UPLOADED. The reason for this is that the robots I receive for this tournament will be competing in Beetleweight Bash Series 5 afterwards, and I already have every robot from the exchange. Sending me an old robot that's been renamed and re-uploaded is not okay but I'm not certain to enforce it, so we'll go by host's discretion. If it's too similar to a robot you already have on the exchange I have the right to reject it.

Bracket Rules:
The 24 entrants will be placed into 6 qualifier rumbles. The two longest-surviving robots advance to the next round, with 4 matches of 3 robots. The winners of these matches advance to the final rumble.

I will not be entering.

ENTRIES
1. playzooki (accepted)
2. Mr. AS (accepted)
3. RedAce (accepted)
4. 090901 (accepted)
5. martymidget (accepted)
6. HurricaneAndrew (accepted)

8. Jonzu95 (accepted)
9. S.H.I.E.L.D (accepted)
10. Thrackerzod (accepted)

Look at this star-studded roster and tell me you aren't hyped. Of course Sewer Snake, Son of Ziggy and Ragin Scotsman aren't there yet, and Brad's considering bringing VD6 back out of retirement as well.

THE GODDAMN HYPE THOUGH

AND IM GOING TO BE GETTING THIS ON DVD

Info on the placeholder guys:
TBD is a new bot by the guy who's made Black and Blue, Black Widow! and Crazy Susan to name a few
SpitFire is Jerome Miles' new heavy. From what i've heard it's going to be a heavyweight Hot Stuff.
Celtic Warrior is MNSTR Robotics' third heavy and i'm pretty sure there's a pic of it on their site. It's a pneumatic flipper.
Foxic is Team Tanto's latest bot.
Usagi is made by the same team that currently owns Mouser (who is also signed up btw) and it's a 4wd drum.
Necron I have no clue what it is, but the team's been a no show before so no promises.
First Lefts is a new robot by the guy that made Brutality.
Lay Z Bot is the typical Team Tiki thing.
Megalodon is made by someone who usually does sumo.
Whiplash is from Team Fast Electric Robots.
Black Sheep is a second Ram Robotics entry and appears to be a vertical spinner.
Beowulf is a very ambitious entry by someone who joined the sport last year. It's going to be a modded battlekit.

Game Development / Super Smash Indies - a Smash Bros Fangame by Badnik96
« on: December 06, 2014, 06:41:09 PM »
*Logo to go here eventually. Once I make one.*

I'm not sure really where to start, but here we go. People have started projects like this before but none have finished, or at least to the degree I'm hoping to get to. My plan is a Super Smash Bros style game featuring characters from indie games. I've done some snooping around and I have a pretty large roster in mind, plus an engine to support it. However, since I'm not too experienced with pixel art/animation and game programming, this'll probably take a while and might not be fully finished for years. I've only barely gotten my feet wet in programming, and not only am I rusty with pixel art, I've never done characters like this before. This is gonna be an ambitious project and hopefully I can get it off the ground and have something working soonish.

The game will be made in Unity and will feature 4-player local versus as well as a basic classic mode. Once that basic release is out of the way, I may add an adventure/story mode, trophies, and other cool features.

Here's the characters I've sprited so far:

I need to upload a file using this host, but when it goes to give me the link the site gives me a 500 server error.

Is it an issue with file size (file is rather large) or is it just being broken?

I'm making a game for my game design class, and I was wondering:

If you knew a game was a blatant advertisement, what would get you to play it?
