I'm pretty sure, for your examples, aluminium would bend a LOT more, possibly also fracture, and wood would just splinter off in all directions, there'd be no wheel left. But I take your point.

Not personally sure on what's under the shell of Gabriel, I know there is at least a metal frame, unsure of whether this also translates to metal armour.

104
For sure, Gabriel is an odd case (one worth researching if you haven't, the way it's built means that hammer actually has a similar power to some of the UK's hardest hitting axes and hammers) but use of plastics like HDPE is definitely on the rise, and it's hugely common for sub-HW UK bots to be comprised almost entirely of them. All my beetleweights are fully HDPE aside from front titanium wedges (right material for the right place as you rightly state :D) and none have been taken apart, yet.
Gathering parts for my first 30lb now and that will be completely plastic, but is a largely unconventional design so the need for those big, heavy metals is reduced considerably (if I had a picture of the design, all would make sense - alas I've made the conscious decision to not CAD this one)
I know this sounds like I'm trying to win you over but honestly it's nice to have a discussion about stuff like this with people who have different perspectives :P

A lot of combat robots now take full advantage of materials such as HDPE, UHMWPE, RG1000 etc so I had found it interesting that you had omitted them.
One rather high-profile example you could take of HDPE on modern bots is Gabriel - see here how though Carbide could take chunks out of it, the machine just kept going.

On our heavyweight for example, which is being built on a strict budget, we are using a few mm of stainless steel covered with a layer of thicker HDPE, allowing the HDPE to help dissipate energy before the weapon hits the steel, which is also far better in terms of puncture resistance.

Max tip speed in the new arena is 125mph, this weekend was the first time they ran due to finally getting the roof on.
Not half speed per se, after all series 9 Aftershock ran at 135mph

I am competing at a robot wars live event with a heavyweight for a weekend.

We're taking Flamingo there this weekend. Come say hi. I've got a lurid pink hoodie, shouldn't be hard to find...

I mean end of the day we can't stop you from doing whatever you fancy but that's just the 'team line' on the situation. Drop me a message sometime and maybe we can work something out that works for all :)

Okay so I'm gonna explain out reasoning for not including them

1) no photos for textures. What was used was what was available, nothing special and certainly nothing to the resolution rwra2 used.
2) similarly, they are somewhat amount of scale in general, just built as models and not in scale with each other.
3) most importantly, we didn't have permission from the builders to include them. This was an official rw thing when we released so we had to have permission from every builder. It's not easy tracking some of them down. We tried.

You're only allowed to mod other people's sh** if you're good enough: not an argument edition
Or are you guys gonna try and get a public statement of approval from Gabriel every time you make a mod? :>

...you realise the stuff ICR would like to add is stuff the Mod Team made right? Ha
It's not a matter of the person being good enough. We were never happy enough with the quality to add it. :)
Just how the team feels about their own content. Not sure that's something you could argue with dude, sorry, but thanks for showing concern for the RA2 modding community which we all strongly support.

We 0% approve of stuff like this and would prefer the mod left as it's own entity for the pure reasoning we're happy with it. Adding any other work may not be to the same standards we set ourselves.
That said, at the end of the day, we can't stop you doing anything. We've always adopted the viewpoint above and would kindly suggest you don't call it an Ultimate Remix. In our view, the original is the ultimate. :)
I’m sure Gabriel would also not approve of the DSL mod. It feels very hypocritical to me to be so protective and opposed to the alteration of your mod. It certainly goes against the spirit of the GTM modding community as a whole.

I literally outlined why we feel like we do... we feel adding other, less-polished material doesn't add positively to the mod and therefore we personally don't approve. I don't think that's a crime.

I do plan on entering, it's just finding the time to build something new!

Opinion: If we allow people to do whatever they want in display, with no rules or deadlines, people won't run official tournaments. Why would they? If something happens and you have to drop your tournament, no consequences if it's a display!

IE If we run a 'loose ship', people will flock to that 'ship'
