Off-Topic Discussion / GTM Awards 2014 - Voting!
« on: December 24, 2014, 06:29:51 PM »
GTM AWARDS 2014
Alright, time to vote! Sorry for opening this a little late.
PM me your votes, you don't have to vote in all categories.
Obvious joke votes may become void, as always, and you shouldn't vote for yourself.
You may have 2 honorable mentions for each vote you make also - each main vote is worth 3 points and a HM is just 1. Make these clearly separated :)
Voting will close on the 1st January at midnight (in Forum Default time zone) or whenever I look at GTM first after that moment. (I imagine midnight forum time will be in the middle of the night for me).
TIME LEFT - CLOSED

Off-Topic Discussion / GTM Awards 2014 - Discussion

Discussion for this years categories, might as well start it.

Red = removed, green = added

So, what needs adding and removing to make it relevant this year?

Other Tutorials / Beginners Guide To: Entering A Tournament
« on: December 09, 2014, 04:37:07 AM »
A basic skill which is sometimes unknown to newer members. Let's check it out.

I want to send Wasp into a DSL MW IRL tournament.

I need to click it, and then click 'Export' which brings up this screen:

On which I press OK. The bot has now been exported to my Robot Designs folder in the RA2 directory.

I can now go to the GTM Bot Exchange on the top bar of the site, and scroll down to the DSL MW uploader (obviously use whatever class and mod your bot is).

And add my robot to the exchange

---A FEW MOMENTS LATER---

Yeah! We uploaded it! Now we find it in the DSL MW Bot Exchange, and copy it's link address.

And this address can then be sent to someone running a tournament to enter your - hopefully legal - bot using GTM's Personal Message system.

Congratulations! You entered a tournament!

EDIT: I actually just found out there was already a sort-of guide (with less pictures) I posted about 3 years ago, with a slightly more complex method (but a method I personally prefer). Check it out here:
1. Read the requirements of the tournament you wish to enter, noting weight class, game type and any restrictions.

2. Built a bot suitable to these requirements.

3. Leave the botlab, and in Team HQ, click the robot once, and then press export.

4. The bot will be exported to the 'Robot Designs' folder of your RA2 folder.

5. Put the .bot file into a .zip file - most Windows OS can make .zip folders.
-ALTERNATIVE: Use winRAR to put the file into a .rar file. After installing the free winRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) program, right click the .bot file, and click 'Add to *botname*.rar'.

6. Go to the GTM File Host (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/page,page4749.html) and upload the .zip or .rar file you just created.

7. The uploader will give you a line of code. Select this code, right-click and copy.

8. Go to the tournament signups page (ENSURE THE TOURNAMENT IS IN THE SIGNUPS STAGE FIRST, AND NOT DISCUSSION, AND ALSO THAT IT IS NOT FULL) and click the message icon (Image removed from quote.) to send the host (the first poster, who runs the tournament) a personal message.

9. In this personal message, right-click and paste the code from earlier. Add any relevant information if you feel necessary, remembering to state why you are sending it in either the subject or message.

10. Send the message, and hope it all goes well! :D

What's New In Ironforge?
=========================

The new Weightclass limit for Ironforge will be
AW - 70kg
BW - 90kg
LW - 125kg
MW- 200kg
HW- 400kg
SHW - 600kg

Please note that this is a self enforced weight class limit, as there is no way to mod the exe directly without the source code.

2.  4 New Components (v1.0)

3.  3 New Teams (v1.0)

=========================
UPDATES
=========================
v1.0
all planned components are completed
reached over 15 full AI teams
new components: fist, servo piston, actuator, car steering
balance:  beta speed increase to 15, ban hammer nerfed
various oversight fix

v0.5c
replace newer version of py with older version, somehow resulting in much more stable game.

v0.5b
fix some crash issues with treads

v0.5

6 new teams

v0.4

v0.3

slim axle
major motor stability fix
new team

=========================
Installation
=========================
For NEW USERS
On a fresh copy of STOCK
1.  Delete the AI Folder
2.  Delete the Components Folder
3.  Delete the UI Folder
4.  Unzip Files into RA2 directory

For EXISTING USERS
1.  Unzip file into Ironforge directory

**NOTE** PLEASE GIVE FEEDBACK IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE

To install hotfix, unzip file into Ironforge directory.

=========================
The goals of Ironforge TC
=========================

Ironforge TC is intended to support more realism than DSL TC.  While I will not impose any stricter rules than current DSL-S, component balance ensure that you do not have to sacrifice efficiency by choosing certain parts for looks.

Off-Topic Discussion / How do you listen to music while out?
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:10:51 AM »
I kinda want to update the way I listen to music. I use a 2007 iPod Nano, 8gb, and it's served so well, outliving an iPod Touch easily, but I don't like having all my stuff on 1 device for some reason, plus I love the tactile feedback you get from an Apple clickwheel.
How outdated am I?

Yeah I don't have a team name so deal with that thread title.
Making all the threads everywhere now my beetle is getting a little more serious.

Initial Sketchup Model (Thanks Tweedy :D)

Current component layout - missing mixer, wheels and forks. Lots of wire shortening to do.

Current Cardboard Mockup (cardboard bots revival 2014)

Will be invertible. Front plate 3mm steel, baseplate/top plate/sloped sides 4mm hdpe, then the rest of the chassis 'box' inside the side skirts (back and sides) will be 10mm hdpe.

Tournament Archives / Centripetal Force - SBV
« on: May 01, 2014, 01:18:31 PM »

Welcome to the Centripetal Force SBV Thread :)

You can now see your matchups for Round 1.
Remember, there is a Loser's Bracket, so although the Round 1 winners go into the Winner's Bracket Final, the winner of the Loser's Bracket goes into the Grand Final against the Winner's Bracket Champion!

I will also be hosting some Grudge Matches after the tournament (get in touch with me if there's a match you'd like to see) and a possibly 4-team Tag Tournament, if people organize themselves :P

I also realize bracket-wise this tournament has a strange layout, so here's a vaguely explanatory diagram, featuring numbers instead of bot names.

Site News and Feedback / GTM Mobile?
« on: April 14, 2014, 05:00:37 AM »
This thought has been playing on my mind for some time. The current mobile site is pretty bad in my opinion and browsing on a mobile is sometimes quote tricky, although this may just be me.
Is there any way we could make the site friendlier to mobile? I know a lot of forums use that Tapatalk thing  but I don't know much about it.

Tournament Archives / Centripetal Force - SIGNUPS CLOSED
« on: April 13, 2014, 07:12:00 AM »
SIGNUPS CLOSE 1st MAY!

This tournament is all about the destruction - as much as possible, please!
To ensure this, there are bot type restrictions.

Rules
-The bot must be a DSL 2.1 Heavyweight built under the 'Standard' ruleset. Minimum weight is 700kg.
-Please do not enter an IRL bot, I will decline it. Also, if the bot you enter is obviously lower than your creative/technical ability, I may decline it.
-The bot must have at least 75% of it's weapon weight in one of the permitted bot types. If you wish, the rest may be used in a rammer/wedged rammer rack.
-The permitted bot types are as follows
-For weapon motors, you may freely use all types of Perm including Dual, the E-tek, the 2/4/6Mag gearboxes and the Geared Beta (for hammers only). Anything below the Perm 80 in power (Piglets, Mags etc) can be used at a limit of 2 for a specific bot type - for example, you can only have 2 Face Spinning weapons using any motor below a Perm 80. This means you can use more than 2 of these motors provided the bot is a hybrid, and only has a maximum of 2 on each weapon system.
-No flailing weapons
-No BFE for an unrealistic cause, no Custom Components, no AAM/Cheatbot2/ZeroG etc. Trov Glitch is allowed.
-No Clusterbots
-19 entrants (the last 4 accepted entries will be in a Wildcard match)
-Fights will be conducted in the Combat Arena with hazards off for 3 minutes.
-There will be a Loser's Bracket
-All fights aside from the Grand Final (between Winner's Bracket winner and Loser's Bracket winner) will be 4-way.
-1 Havok restart, then your bot will be removed from the battle.
-No upgrades when you send your bot, apart from AI lines.
-I can AI but PLEASE try, it saves so much time.
-If you enter a bot that breaks the rules, you will be notified. Your spot can be taken by someone else if you are holding a spot with an illegal bot and the entry list is full.
-Entries received before signups open will need to be resubmitted after signups open to be valid.
-I will be entering with Pyrexia 2.0
-Any empty spaces in the entry list after 1st May will provide 'bye' spots, first filling the Wildcard, and then if the Wildcard is empty too, they will be shuffled into the first round via randomizer.

ENTRIES
1. Craaig
2. S.H.I.E.L.D
3. Madman3
4. Playzooki

Extract over a clean copy of DSL 2.1

58
Hey all! This is a quick tutorial to installing all 3 most-played versions of Robot Arena 2 - the original Stock game, the DSL 2.4 mod and the newer Ironforge mod. The process is identical for all 3 versions, so I have just made 1 guide and pointed out the only place it differs - downloading the file. The picture examples show DSL 2.4, and the guide will assume you are using Windows 7, 8/8.1/ or 10.

NB: To install any of these, your computer will need either WinRAR or 7zip installed. Both are free and completely virus-free. My example pictures will show screenshots of 7zip, but WinRAR is similar.

1) Download your chosen versions file:
Stock
DSL-IRL 2.4
Ironforge
My examples show DSL 2.1 but the process is exactly the same.

2) Ensure you have either 7zip or WinRAR installed and open the .rar file. I'm using 7zip in this example but it's similar.

3) Extract to whatever location you desire - if you're made a version crash or mess up, extract it to a different location to get a clean copy.

Game should now be ready to play using the Robot Arena 2.exe in the folder that was extracted.

I imagine a few of you have tried this already, an f2p 3rd person shooter with awesome weapon customization that's just come out of beta.
Tried it? What's your setup?
I'm still trying out a few things but currently use a Rifle with the Pyro payload and a Beam with the Heal payload and a couple of scope/magazine changes on each :D
