I get the joke.. but can we keep politics out of our lovely game? :P

Actually one idea id like to see for October would be a Halloween Theme of some type, I think that could be fun.

Man this series has been amazing and the final episode didnt disappoint, Dare I say... the best televised robot combat season ever

On another note before I get onto the episode.. Warhead was actually insanely closer to beating Minotaur then I thought with that first hit! Rubber belt was only inches away.

Id be keen to dust off RA2 and come out of retirement for this one.. sounds like fun.

Backlash.

Yes?.. oh uh.. you meant Backslash.. carry on :)

I may have missed this point of discussion but does it need to be only 1 metagame? I mean it does generate additional work for the host(s) but would multiple metagames rather than weight divisions provide a more inclusive tournament for all groups of the community? (especially for a tournament named after said community)

Say..

Sportsman Class - ReTooled HW (Most balanced game with the most weight allowance)

Intermediate Class - DSL 2.2 MW (More optimised designs with less weight to play with)

Pro/Open Class - Stock 1.4 LW (optimise is basically a must with little weight to play with)

Also worth noting that the metagame ain't going anywhere if nobody builds in it.

Which pretty much sums up my whole post. :)

Is there anyone in that 12 that definitely wouldn't enter if it was Retooled (other than Mech)?

I have a little food for thought based on using Retooled..

If the tournament is to be run soon (which seems to be the case given the pacing of this discussion) there is the potential for exploitable aspects yet to be uncovered to the community (in extreme cases a Narmour like scenario for instance) I mean absolutely no disrespect to the great work made by Mr AS, the metagame is just young and in its early days.

If the tournament is set as a more distant project there is the potential for optimal designs to still shine through but all the bugs worked out.

Using retooled as an unknown is great in one situation but also a gamble in another.. it would still need to be tried and tested (perhaps in tournament situations) to truly work out all the nerfs and buffs thoroughly.

In my opinion the risk of optimal designs is a better trade off than the risk of exploits, as the more final release should be balanced enough to generate a "rock paper scissors" scenario but its a question if that fits the timeline for this tournament..

The better question, I think, is whether this is the kind of judging we want in BattleBots.

Now I dont know the answer to that.. but I know exactly why battlebots did these rules for this year..

Tombstone was the main drawcard / poster child for season 1 (2015) only for it to fall to a virtually (in comparison) weaponless robot, not that I am picking on biteforce here, most of us diehards accept this as a strategy but the bulk of viewers / casual fans would raise an eyebrow to this and they need the ratings to have the show survive.

Instead of carving a hole in the BBEANS arena, why not simply use the AU Onslaught Arena?

Its already a low walled arena with a center pit

IIRC you will need to code in some paths for the AI to follow (to avoid the pit) which you could do using the bbeans arena as a guide (should find it in the python file)

Minus the opening pit, you would have constructed the area yourself with a little bit of time and save yourself some money in the process  :gawe:

Wasn't there a controllable Witch Doctor too?

RC Witch doctor and Tombstone... they are making Biteforce (s1) and Bronco too but they wont be RC

Wow this is not a good year for the vet's

Im glad pulsar got a free kick rather than trying to force chompalot to front up to the remaining fights broken, it was also disadvantaged in point tally too so nobody could cry foul, good work by management to run that.

Gabriel is a lot of fun but always a risky design when you cant KO easily

I think they do need a ref or countout in some form so competitors can easily know if they need to persist with the attack or not but thats something that can easily be built on next year.

The Final is now in the first post (and on the youtube channel)

Congratulations to

Given the size and heavy delays I wont do a seperate awards thread or anything like that but I want to thank everyone who entered, it wasn't a terribly popular concept but I appreciate those who supported it.

Promise if I do another tournament itll take less then 2 years  :gawe:tm

Roll Credits!

im going to guess a "t" is missing from that 3rd word? :P

I personally love this arena.. Madiaba and I spent a few late nights nutting it all out, it makes for some really crazy and suspense-filled  matches but it does create a significant degree of luck in the outcomes which creates controversy in a tournament setting.

Have we ever seen a drumbot in RW?

Even tornado technically had a drum weapon in its arsenal

I'd never expect all the bots in RW to be the crazy high standards of BB though, RW tries to promote the whole build it in your shed thing. Plus BB bots get a massive cash injection from the show to make them fancy, which RW generally don't.

I meant more in the sense... battlebots 2015 had a lot of varied designs but after Tombstone stormed through we are seeing a lot more compact kinetic robots (particularly drums) this year

Id expect robot wars to evolve similar.. spinners like carbide will be a handful this year because not many would have taken spinner precautions.

If battlebots is anything to go by the sport evolves a lot more quickly then the old series given new technology we have now
