Discussion / Clash Cubes 3 Format - Discussion
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:37:12 AM »
Fun little teaser trailer :-D

ok now onto the format :-D

I have had 3 possible ideas worked out for CC3 all fully planned out and tested to work, im going to give you guys the choice since many of you didn't like the "second chance after 1 fight" format from CC2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Idea 1

qualifying in the head to head arena https://gametechmods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2593&page=4 (scroll down a bit on that page)

the "winners" go into 1 bracket and the "losers" go into another

the faster you "win" the better your qualifying position
the faster you "loose" the worse your qualifying position

the brackets will be 2 of the 24 X Brackets from CC2 so that means 48 places for Clash Cubes 3, I think that it could be achieved with 30 people wanting in for CC2

matches would be a best 2 out of 3 to be fair on the robots

this format COULD have a fully supported Losers bracket but this would make it even more time consuming so you could expect a long tournament

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Idea 2

having the tournament ran a bit like robot wars

robots are divided up into 6 heats of 6 robots

round 1 is a 3 way rumble with 1 robot dropping out

round 2 is a 1 on 1 match with 1 robot dropping out

heat final is a 1 on 1 match with 1 robot dropping out

the 6 robots move on to the series semi's

then robots will fight it out in 1 on 1 giving 3 winners and 3 losers

the 3 losers will then be put in a 3 way rumble and the winner rejoins the winners

then 1 on 1 to decide the finals

then 1 on 1 for the finals

this would be 1 match only no best out of 3 its do or die so no losers bracket (except for the 1 match in the series semi)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Idea 3

the tournament is split into "events" or "heats" of only a small number of places, robots qualify for each event in the attempt to make it in to the bracket for that event.

there will be 3 events to start off with each with a traditional 16 robot bracket, the fastest 16 qualifying robots get to compete in the event, others miss out

points are awarded, 10 for making it into the bracket then 10 for each round win

everyone is put into a points ladder and after 3 events the number of robots in contention is cut to only the top 10 on the ladder

the other robots not in contention however, still compete and can upset those fighting for the tittle

after 2 events the ladder cuts again to only the top four robots in contention

after 1 more event the winner is the robot with the highest points total

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

so

idea 1 holds 48, idea 2 holds 36, idea 3 will hold any number above 16

please make you decision in the poll provided :-D, this thread is a replacement for the other as per Madiaba's suggestion :-D

Jousting Arena Test Garage

Skinned Jousting Targets Collection

Diamond Spikes

Extra Info

The Diamond Spikes will be a legal for use weapon in the next jousting tournament, they dont cause much more damage then irons but are stronger and the smaller one is double the size and the larger one triple a normal iron

also note those pictures a really old and I am aware of spelling mistakes, etc I just quickly typed what ever in there at the time because the component wouldn\'t work without a description

the joust targets are legal for use in the next tournament they are no different to the standard target only you will (within some rules) will be allowed to place it yourself.

the joust test arena will be replaced with either Mad\'s v2 arena (frictionless wall) or the Grand Arena (from the finals which is just a re-skinned v2) its your choice

the liberator is a sneak peek weapon you get to try out from the upcoming mod Backlash, its only really the GMF and sound effects (there is new ones) for you to play with as the values are balanced for stock not Backlash

does anyone own it ? and if you do for PS2 can you tell me how good it is ?

I haven't bothered to spend for a PS3 yet as the Australian model doesn't have backwards compatibility and I am after another motocross game,

MX vs ATV Reflex looks like it wont make it to PS2 so I was looking at Motorstorm, personally the original one looked the best but Arctic Edge is the only one to make it to PS2

I have MX vs ATV unleashed and untamed if you need something to make a comparison, Im wondering if it meets the level of those games ?

Other Tutorials / Joe's Arenas (Mods, Tweaks & Notes)
« on: November 02, 2009, 08:27:25 AM »
This is a thread that I will place all my little arena tweaks, notes and hows to\'s as I discover/ Learn them, others can add other things they work out, learn, etc to help out along the way

Question: how to move the location where objects are placed in the practice arena, such as the creates, blocks, etc

Answer when you \'AddExtra gmf objects (not in the arena.py) their location is set in their own gmf, not in the arena.gmf, or the python, but that objects own gmf.

so find the section(s) like this

Code: [Select]
*NODE_NAME   crate01
               *TM_ROW0 1.000000   0.000000   0.000000
               *TM_ROW1 0.000000   1.000000   0.000000
               *TM_ROW2 0.000000   0.000000   1.000000
               *TM_ROW3 0.572541   0.103332   7.858184

TM_ROW3 is the X Y & Z axis of the objects location, first column of numbers is the X, second the Y and last column the Z

change these vales for the object (in both the RIGIDBODY and GEOMOBJECT) recompile and you will find the objects have been moved :-D

Modifications / Powerplant Tabletop Arena
« on: November 01, 2009, 08:32:47 PM »

out of the recent arenas I made most likely the one I spent the most time on the GMF with so lets break it apart for you :-D

Starting off with FB's Small Arena

starting with the GMF..

first working out the objects, FB made it really easy compaired to some stock arenas, so we have

each wall N, S, E, W
each bumper N, S, E, W
the floor
the surrounding scenery (which is a large box)
the top plexi
and the crusher

starting off by getting rid of the crusher ... I wanted to test it as I went rather then doing it all in one hit so for the time being I just set the crushers mesh vertex's to 0

next I worked out a basic plan for this arena I wanted 2 levels, 2 curbs and four walls

so next I deleted the North Bumper Object as it wasn't needed

changing the Y-Axis of the floor the rise it up higher and make the floor a little flatter then the X-Axis to make it skinnier,

next I took the south bumper and gave it the Dimensions of the original floor so it would act as the replace since the original was strung up in the air (the Vertex's were different to the floor but the size was the same so a bit of number crunching there)

next I reduced each side of the East and West Walls by 1/4 (quarter each side means it would be half the size while still being in the middle)

made the height just a bit more then the top floor

doing the same with the N and S walls with the X-Axis only the lower Y value was changed to the height of top platform so it appeared to be attached to the top

finally the E and W bumpers were risen a small amount to make walls and the top plexi removed

then came skinning....

to explain above everything easier here is a labeled diagram

next on the agenda is to make the upper platform disappear or descend once a robot is knocked off so the other can join to action

Modifications / Clash Cubes Arena's
« on: October 08, 2009, 12:35:26 AM »
//// Warning Big Post Ahead ////

ok so everyone is showcasing Clash Cubes entry's lately so I figured I might give something back to loyal Clash Cube fans, this isn't not an official announcement of Clash Cubes but I figured I would show you just what happens when Madiaba becomes the head of the Clash Cubes construction team ;-)

Clash Cubes Arena

a HUGE credit to mad for helping me put this one together, the great thing about Mad's help is that he goes through everything with you so your learning how to do it for yourself, I owe you.. well more now lol one of these days I hope to be able to pay you back for everything mad. :-D

without further ado here is the Clash Cubes Arena

your probably asking right now "Err Joe it looks just like a combat zone re skinned ?" well then you would be wrong :P once the match starts the arena takes on a mind of its own

5 seconds into the match the arena walls rise and it becomes a free for all table top match

this will ONLY occur for 5 seconds, then the arena will lower the walls to low walls

once the counter hits 1:30 the 2 of the walls will open in the arena once again

this will also occur for 5 seconds before closing back to low wall again

when the counter hits 1:00 the other 2 walls will move to the open position

before, after 5 seconds, closing once again

if that match's last this long then, when the clock hits 0:30 all will open once again

before closing 5 seconds later, the walls will then stay in this position for the remaining 20 seconds of the match

now I guess you next question would be "whats the deal with the huge grey ball ?" well that is made of metal and weights about 100kg at this stage (will be changed to heavier ) ramming it hard enough will damage and possibly break off robot parts

it will start in the center of the arena and tends to roll around a bit, the arena walls also have a bit of "bounce" to them, which bounces around robots that hit them but occasionally throws them up in the air, Mad was talking about a way to fix this so the arena may get some more modifications

please dont go asking for it yet, It was just completed last night and is still in the tweaking stage :-D

on to the next arena .. yes thats right... some of you may have picked up the tittle says Clash Cubes Arena's. this one is not as complex or as cool as the one above but I am proud to say I made it myself :-D

Clash Cubes Qualifying Arena

qualifying this time around will take place in another arena, this is so times can be quicker and hazards dont effect the outcome of the qualifying "runs" so this is a modified Small Arena (so credit the the beetle bros) the crusher is gone and all the walls are now low so robots can be thrown out, the walls are not as low as the Clash Cubes Arena but still able to toss robots out easily.

once again please dont ask for it as its not quite finished

enjoy and happy building :-D

Modifications / AI Parts
« on: October 04, 2009, 04:21:29 AM »
no this isnt another "were can I get AI parts from?" question, a month or so ago I finally installed the AI parts but was a little disappointed to see all the "holes" in created in my bot lab so

I went through the text files and found some components already had the preview image written in but there was just no such file in the folder, creating the white space

others had no preview line written at all in the text file so basically I decided to go and fill up the holes and also change the name of the emergency wedge

so this is a replacement .cfz (and files) for them, it will change the AI components so they now will all have preview images (also got rid of the asterisk in the emergency wedge name)

shows like Jackass arnt really my thing but Nitro Circus is cool, rather then trying to hurt themselves they pull of ridicules stunts using a variety of extreme sports, season 2 started with a rocket powered tricycle backflip

awesome stuff, does anyone else watch it ?

Tournament Archives / King Of Karnage - Jousting Tournament Idea.
« on: August 28, 2009, 09:10:16 AM »

As you may have heard me mention before about making a jousting tournament for those that don’t know

Definition of Jousting: Jousting is a medieval sport played by two armoured knights mounted on horses, mounted knights would charge at their enemies with weapons to try to kill or disable them.

Basically that with robots but yes there are more rules...

General Rules

  • Stock HW, a robot may not weigh anymore then 799.7kg (0.3kg are needed for 2 smart zones and a target)
  • No Bot File Editing, etc (ALL building must be done in the bot lab)
  • AI Parts are perfectly legal (Blue Snapper, Emergency Wedge, Etc)
  • Cheatbot2 parts are NOT legal for use (this includes the flamethrower, magnet, cannon, etc)
  • Any in game glitches may be exploited as long as they don’t violate the above rules

Advanced Rules

  • No part of a robot may exceed and/or stretch over the wall of the jousting arena
  • All weaponry must be brought into play via burst motors (basically the same concept as the above rule)

Format

  • Each match will consist of 3 “Jousts” and the winner will be determined on a points based system
  • 3 points if you break your opponents Target off
  • 1 point each if no targets are knocked off
  • 0 points if your target is knocked off (unless you break your opponents off before yours was broken)
  • The player with the most points wins, in the event of a draw after the 3 “Jousts” the total in game points from each match will be added up and the highest total wins.

all those eliminated from the tournament before the semi finals will go into a consolation bracket were they will fight it out for 1 prize selection

Prizes

the winner will gain a choice of 2 prize's, the runner up and consolation bracket winners will gain 1 prize of there choice.

(it can be found here https://gametechmods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2156) I really want to stress this part I do not and wont take any credit for the arena, all credit goes to Lu-Tze for this awesome piece of work and I sure hope its ok that I host a tournament with this great arena :D

Modifications / CCAI Release & Competition
« on: August 12, 2009, 04:32:58 AM »
Click Here To Download CCAI 1.0

it is recommended that you apply this to a new dsl 2.1

patch for the background for those using a resolution that doesnt match up the menu

you can download it here, just specify the location of your DSL2.1 with CCAI and hit unzip and it will install itself into your copy of CCAI

http://filefactory.com/file/ah1a8eh/n/CCAI_1_1_Patch_exe

Full information on this AI pack can be found here

Now I guess your wondering about the competition ? well basically you could have the chance of winning the following prizes

these are replica components (the description was actually copy and pasted off a website selling these motors) and they are a bit faster then normal E-Tek motors but fear not as I have tested then and they dont glitch like crazy.

how do you win one of these you ask ?

basically I have hidden a message somewhere in the game and you have to locate it, it could be absolutely anywhere... so your not completely lost I have an image of where to find the message... only its completely warped

each day I will unwarp the image a little bit thus relieving the location a bit more, this will happen for up to 5 days until the full image is shown, the competition will run until someone can notify me of the messages location and tell me what it says

anyone can join in and there is no limit to guesses (but please dont spam with stabs in the dark) first person to find it gets themselves a prize that is legal in Clash Cubes 3

Final Clue:

The Votes have been cast so now its time to finally conclude what was in my opinion a great Clash Cubes 2, I want to thank everyone who competed, contributed and showed support in any way and hope to see you all join Clash Cubes 3 when that time comes. anyway enough of me, lets get onto the good stuff....

Clash Cubes Champion

Condor33

Clash Cubes Bracket Winner

MikeNCR

Clash Cubes Losers Bracket Winner

Condor33

Clash Cubes Top Qualifier

Man Manu

Most Entertaining

R1885

Most Anticipated

Somebody

Most Innovative

Clickbeetle

Prize Distribution as I said on numouris occasions the advantage of staying in the winners bracket rather then dropping through the losers bracket was that more prizes could be won, in fact by reaching the final 4 of the winners bracket you recieve a prize pick and then one for each round from there.

prizes are legal in any future clash cubes event and have been made by me so they are not over the top powerful but at the same time there is still advantages to using them

Option 1 - A small battery that provides double the power of an antweight battery

Option 2 - A sawblade that has 8 attachment points for weapons, deals the same damage as a normal sawblade

Option 3 - A weapon that makes hammer bots more effective, can deal 3x the damage of a frenZy hammer

Option 4 - A 2 in 1 prize, a powerful motor and a fuel tank which is only needed for legality in Clash Cubes

The following people have prize selections

Somebody - 3
Urjak - 1
MikeNCR - 3
Naryar - 1
Condor33 - 3
SSG - 1
R1885 - 1
Clickbeetle - 1
Man Manu - 1

Other Mentions this was not designed to be awards so its not really something to add to achievements, the Cutest Robot was just a little gimmick because of the amount of people saying Bob & Bill were cute. and as Click said to me in his votes SFTW .. award isnt the best term to be used so they were just for a bit of fun and the best match and worst match was just feedback for me.

anyway the Cutest Robot was Man Manu and the SFTW LifeRA2

hope you enjoyed everything and if those with picks can please pm your selection I will send those out to you withing the next few days
