Tournament Archives / Clash Cubes IV - SignUps *
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:48:25 PM »

Weight:

It’s going to be DSL 2.1 Lightweight; Bots can weigh no more than 249.0kg.

Construction:

Realism Rules, No part can intersect another part that couldn't have a slot cut in it in real   life. Example: Spinner blade passing through armor plate   or chassis=OK.Spinner blade passing through wheel or battery=Not   OK.There is a small margin of tolerance, though. If a spinner blade just   nicks a motor or something, that's OK. Basically this rule is just   intended to stop burst-enhanced overlapping spinners like you see in stock RA2.
Glitches in the game may be exploited as long as they do not violate the above conditions.
Be wary however as you will only get one do over for the whole tournament if YOUR own robot has a havok that effects the outcome for itself, there is also one match do over if YOUR bot causes a havok that effects  the OPPONENT bot.
Upon second offence for either condition your robot will be disqualified.
No AI parts or Cheatbot 2 only what is found in the bot lab of a "clean" DSL 2.1 copy
And  all Robots Chassis must be a cube shape of any size, this means a   square base, square top and equal height (so the bigger your base the higher your bot)
I will AI any bots that need it but if you do know how to AI please do, any custom .py files are ok as long as they are sent along with the bindings and only achieve a means of what would be normally possible.
Smartzones may be used including custom ones (so long as you send along the files)   however they may only be used for the purposes of AIing no other use will   be accepted.
No BFE or AAM everything must be done inside the bot lab with exception to chassis skinning. (BFE Armour c will be done and carrying the penalty of banishment from Clash Cubes if you attempt to edit it)
All Robots Must Show Controlled Movement.
My Skirt hinge collision fix will be utilized in this tournament rendering "Narmour" useless. Or in the case it doesn’t work correctly use of the collision mesh to an advantage isn’t allowed.

Multibot/Clusterbot:

Multibots or Clusterbots are allowed if you wish to make one, the rules are...
Limited to 2 robots only.
Both parts must be in the same weight class (including AW and BW)
Both parts combined must not exceed 249kg.
The whole robot will be eliminated if 50% of the weight is knocked out.

Format:

The arena will be The Clash Cubes IV Arena (which will be shown soon)
The format will be basic this time around, A 64 Robot Double Elimination Bracket.
All matches will be 3 matches at a limit of 2mins each.
All 3 matches will be ran even if a robot wins the first 2

AI:

As said before custom .py's are not an issue otherwise please specify what   .py you wish me to use if you are not able to AI yourself (if you can   please do)
If you do not know the best AI give me a brief description of what you want it to do and I will work out a suitable one   for your needs ;)
If there is an AI issue you may dispute it if you have some evidence and can explain the issue, in a calm mature manor, in the case is found to have affected the match outcome it will be re-filmed.
any disputing on no grounds *cough LRA2 cough* or straight out immature complaining will see you kicked out of Clash Cubes and stripped of all ranking data (KO's, W/L record, etc)

Modifications / Clash Cubes IV Arena
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:19:51 PM »
here is the new Clash Cubes arena to be used in the upcoming Clash Cubes 4

so where to start... basically its a simple square arena with walls double the size of a normal small wall arena (like the DSL Tourney)

the lower section is angled at a steep gradient and the upper section like normal.

now onto what it does? you may see these floating in four locations in the above picture

in each corner there is a companion cube, (2 Little Cubes, Wild Cube and Carbon Cube) however these guys are by no means your friends in this arena.

they are 1kg each and are a little bouncy so they dont interfere with your robot at all when you hit them.. but should you send one of these little guys into the upper wall... its a different story

thats right, as soon as one of these cubes hits a upper wall it breaks away, halving the height of the arena wall

but besides the little cubes breaking stuff you can also throw your opponents into the walls which will break them away also

in testing it typically took 2 shots for a flipper to get a robot oota (1 to break away the wall and the other to get them out) but of coarse that could be less if you get a bigger hangtime or more force (like Terminal Force in CC3)

nothing for download just yet though sorry, the files themselves just need a bit more organizing but at least you know what to build for.  :gawe:

« on: November 25, 2010, 12:44:13 AM »
Im interested to hear if anyone knows of Robot Combat within other games? (so not a robot combat game itself)

I only know of 1 from memory, there is a mission in Sly 2: Band of Thieves which Murray joins the "R/C Combat Club" to gain inside info and you have to fight another R/C robot tank

anyone know of other games that feature robot fighting?

Probably my all time favorite game series..

who has played any of them ?

I brought them all back to front (3,2,1) after playing a demo of Sly 2

all Epic but I think 2 is the best myself.

Anyone else play?

I had the demo years and years ago and loved it, final got my copy :P \

its old, being released in 2001 but the physics are really quite realistic for a racing game

Thread rules...

Nothing will be set in concrete right this second, its just to hear thoughts on this topic alone, anything else will be deleted.

---------------------

Ok possible options for Hosts who just completed a tournament

1) may jump straight into the discussion section again (current)

2) must wait every _____ poll at least (second, third, hundredth, whatever you think)

3) must wait a period of time (again say what you think

This is just the same reason as Click posted this for BBEANS 6, no doubt Clash Cubes will be a high demand tournament, so to get you all ready, since the sign up rules mean only 1 month max open.

ENTRIES RECEIVED BEFORE SIGN UPS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  If I get bots before signups officially open, I will just delete them and you'll have to re-send your entry. (hehe copy and pasted from Click)

Real Robotics Discussion / How History Could Have Been
« on: September 03, 2010, 10:15:16 AM »
had this idea for some time now.. ever wonder in those split second moments if it went differently how things would change ?

for example...

Series 6 semis, Tornado vs Dominator 2, when Dominator pushed Tornado into Matilda and it nearly landed in the pit before Dominator drove in? how differently would series 6 have been if Tornado fell in?

Series 7 heat rumble.. Bigger Brother beat all robots including Typhoon 2, after flipping it they left it make it the 3rd immobile robot thus surviving but what if instead it flippers Typhoon oota ?

post your thoughts and situations you remember that could have easily changed a lot.

Discussion / Re: Tournament Management
« on: August 05, 2010, 01:25:51 AM »
Entry Level Tournament Rules

There is currently no limit to the amount of Entry Level Tournaments running at any one time,

If you have a Host Score of 0, the Tournament Entry List Size cannot exceed 16 entrants, but must be equal or greater than 8.
Upon successful completion of your first tournament you are permitted up to 32 entrants, however to proceed to Major League you must complete 3 tournaments, at least 1 of which must have 8 robots.

The entry size limit includes any wildcard bracket you may wish to include.
You may start a tournament with more than 1 bracket, but the total should still not exceed the limit (for example, a 32 bot tournament could have a 16 bot LW and a 16 bot HW division).
1 entrant consists of 1 robot, however if the tournament is made of a single team-based bracket, each entrant may enter up to 3 robots.
Multibots and robots with interchangeable weapon systems count as 1 robot.

Moving to Signups
It is your duty to add a poll to your discussion thread asking "Would you consider entering this tournament?"
Once the poll option "Yes" has at least half the entry list size in votes it becomes eligible for the Signups section.
The option for 'Yes' must be clearly 'Yes' and not 'Maybe' or 'Bananas teehee' or anything like this. Votes in those categories count as 0 so why not just have your poll with 'Yes' and 'No'? :P
You can then submit your tournament for approval by PMing Thrackerzod or Geice, where the rules will be screened.

From the day your sign ups are approved you have 4 months to complete your tournament.
This averages out 1 month for sign ups and 2 videos a week but you may spend the time however you see fit (more sign up time, more video time, whatever)

Tournament Bailing Will NOT Be Accepted

Tournament Bailing will result in your hosting history number being reduced by 1 and a temp ban from starting another Discussion topic for 9 months after the expiry of your previous tournament.

This ban period can be removed if you complete your expired tournament.

2 Week Technical Extensions can be granted on proof that the host has experienced technical issues while running the tournament.
Discretionary Conditional Extensions may also be granted, on proof that the tournament has been making progress closely previous to the deadline. This will mean you will have to upload at least 6 videos a week until the tournament is complete, and will not gain a Host Score point, however will mean you do not lose 1 from letting the deadline lapse.

Host interference is not tolerated

You must not edit any entry you receive unless it is a necessary addition, or edit, to their smartzones (wiring is, also, an obvious exception). Any and all edits to problematic entries MUST be left to the entrant. Any failure to not abide by this rule will result in all matches in which the bot took part in being redone (and any subsequent matches it affects) in order for the entry which was unjustly edited to be represented correctly. If the original entry is problematic and is against the rules of the tournament, the builder must be contacted and be given at least 24 hours to fix the issue, assuming they were not contacted before signups closed. If the builder does not respond or does not wish to edit their entry, the bot must be removed from the tournament and the tournament restarted. If a host breaks this rule and does nothing to remedy the situation, their thread will be locked and a hosting ban of 1 month will be applied. This rule is for both entry level and major league tournaments.

Bout time this game had a thread  :gawe:

who plays it ?

I have played it since the original was first released (1998 I believe) all those many years ago, usually off and on playing it but I have got back into playing it a lot more with the release of Starcraft 2.

--- Side Note -----------------------------------------

Im looking to buy Starcraft 2 right now, currently hunting for the cheapest deal,

A systems check told me one aspect of my graphics card conflicts with Starcraft 2 but I think it will still run.. if anyone brought a retail copy aparently they come with 3 guest keys for 7 hours of play ? if anyone has one they are willing to give me so I can try it out, we can arrange some form of trade, as you know im quite handy with computer graphics or even modding aspects of RA2. PM me  ;)

---------------------------------------------------------

My favourite race is probally the Terran, its perhaps the weakest, I know but you can pump out armys at a very fast rate compared to others and there are a few nifty tactics they can use.
