Discussion / DEBATE: Ballasts.
« on: January 27, 2010, 05:55:50 PM »
Yes, the debate is here. I wanna keep it short so can someone who is neutral be the judge.

Anyway, I'll be for them, and Don't post unless you have anything meaningful to say.

Let us begin:

Ballasts. They are basic components, attachable directly to the chassis, and cause no problems.

Why use them? My opinion is simple. Rather than potentially ruin a good bot by rebuilding it from scratch (Which is one of the preferred alternatives.) A simple 10 KG ballast is not a bad investment. They are small, allowing for little chassis redesign, and have a positive effect on the wedge.

"Why not batteries? They add power and add weight!"

Batteries are large in stock, and may need a chassis redesign, which ruins the whole point anyway. If you can add a pink as a ballast, Go ahead, nobody is stopping you.

"Casters work fine as well, why not them?"

Casters do work fine, but are about as unwieldy as batteries, and to fit inside the chassis, will need plenty of space. If you do attach them outside, you may only have weight for one (potentially ruining a wedge, as casters can to that.) or may need to attach it under (Again, ruining a wedge.) or to the side (Causing drift.).

The main point of my argument is that RA2 is part strategy, and whatever works for one bot may not work for another. This is why there are so many building styles, and so many bot types. Treat advice that can be attacked both ways like your genitalia: Don't show it in public and don't shove it down people's throats.

Now for whoever opposes to post.

Chatterbox / The most memorable and funniest quotes thread.
« on: January 12, 2010, 07:56:13 PM »
Does what it says on the tin.

All posts have to be a month old and from this forum. (Actually, who cares? just don't spam.)

You must quote someone else, not yourself.

Also, it must not be directed at yourself.

Anyway, post quotes that you think are funny, awesome, or just good advice.

Lemmie start it off.

You have to promise me though that the three builders prior to Naryar are all horrible noobs so that I can hear him scream in terror when the bot reaches him for adjustments.

GO!

Tournament Archives / SKILL POINTS
« on: December 20, 2009, 09:36:11 AM »
(Yes, there is already a thread. I just feel it's better to start from scratch, using a new system altogether!)

Skill points are a measure of your tournament prowess and ability.

Selected tournaments (The host may PM me to have Skill points recorded) will have all the participants ready for skill points to be recorded.

At the moment, there is no prizes, but in time perhaps there may be some rewards...

The points are subjective, so if you beat a bot with 2/0 OOTA's, you get 2 points, not three.

Now, onto the points!

Not out!:
KO an opponent indirectly (Like with arena hazards) (1 point)
TKO an opponent indirectly (1 point)

Flippin':
Score an OOTA (Can be a 1/0 win.) (1 point)
Beat a bot 2/1 (or 2/0) with only OOTA's (2 points)
Beat a bot 3/0 with only OOTA's (3 points)
BONUS: Use a non flipper/popup/VS bot (2 extra points)

Sadistic:
Separate a chassis from all external components (3 points)
Remove all the wheels from a bot (3 points)
BONUS: KO said bot (extra point)
BONUS: Immobilize said bot (extra 2 points)

A SPINNAR IS YOU:
Kill 2 spinners in a tournament (Can be by any margin) (can be any type) (2 points)
kill three (3 points)

The killer bunny:
Be hailed a SFTW, and defeat an opponent (2 points)
BONUS: Defeat 5 bots in a row (extra 5 points)
EXTRA BONUS: Win the tournament (extra 5 points)

Win:
Come in first place in a tournament (10 points)

Extiction event:
kill the last of any bot type that had more than 3 entrants in a tournament (2 points)

(PM me if you have any good ideas. I may or may not use them.)

Combat efficiency: That's it's name on a can. Don't look at the bot however, look at what it can become. Killer potential or dud in the water? only time will tell.
