I can't see a single situation in which that tips over. Not a one.

Please tell me we're talking 1x10kg weapon should do more damage than 10x1kg weapons, not more damage than 10x10kg weapons?

As far as I understood it, we were saying that 1x10kg weapon should do more damage than 10x10kg weapons. But the dream is to have it calculated by contact patch and forces and all that, meaning that a 1x10kg weapon would do more damage then the bigger contact surfaces of 10x1kg weapons.

Maybe I'm overlooking something but I'm not sure why that'd change anything, it's like a hammer hidden in the chassis.

You hit the chasis with a weapon going 10mph, it does 10 damage
but...
You hit the chasis with ten weapons going 10mph, total weight/energy is the same, it does 100 damage because each weapon does individual damage based on speed

In real life it would deal /less/ damage since you have the same amount of force being distributed across a greater area.

This to me is the true difference between RA2 HD and RA3. It's fairly important that this is done right in my opinion.

Does anyone know of any competitors that the list hasn't gotten yet?
Yes.

Would it be a big deal if I grouped together the Round One competitors in the fights I saw?

People on the Robot Wars subreddit put that initial list together so I think they'd like to have those names too. Unless you don't reddit because I could post them too.

I'm really liking the robot art especially. Such a neat series.

They answered some questions-
(Image removed from quote.)

Seriously, if we get a decent, and working Online feature, that alone would make the game.
Like, I've always wanted to battle some of you nerds, but not if it meant hotwiring my computer to some third party sh'it in order to try and get a semi-stable connection.

I agree with this. Also, crazy that Nerdcubed tweeted it out to 200k+ followers. That could be monumental for the game.

Most of it has heatshrink! Forgot it in a few places however, and I coated everything in the hot glue as a backup plan

It's much bigger than it looks initially, I saw a picture or two with robots in it. A little boring looking but I'm sure I'll survive.

And judging from twitter they oversold, and dozens if not hundreds of people are in a tent watching on a small screen.

A removable wedge was on the design list (possible to be replaced with prongs or any other attachment) but wouldn't have made the weight limit with the design as it stands now. It was made in SolidWorks.

As for the ESC we just kind of resigned ourselves to our pushy-botting fate, and the only fight that the drum even was used for was Cathii, and the Ripto fights were too short for it to even get hits in. We used a Redbrick 200A and I wasn't sure if it was cool to wander around asking for parts so I just didn't and went with it.

@Sonny, I'm the guy in the FB page who posted a picture soldering on a toilet. Classy stuff.

Also, first few videos are up.

So it's been a while. Here's where I was at pre-Motorama:

I have all of the parts for this already, and now they're wired up after my weekend at Motorama! SKBT loaned me Drumthing Else for the weekend, and we definitely didn't account for how much effort wiring would be. Starting from a chassis and some drive motors, we got everything wired up overnight. All of the guts came from the parts purchased for my senior project robot. We showed up with no seep and a hardly working robot to fight with. After some radio troubleshooting, we found out that we'd burnt out one weapon speed controller somehow, and installed a spare hastily.

And of all things, our fight was against Big Ripto, the new featherweight that looks identical to every other Ripto in existence. Up to this point, I had never driven the robot, and the drum had never been spun. The speed controller spun the pulley once (after our postponement) and we threw the belt on and went for it. Once in the arena, there was nothing coming from the drum. And we lost, hard. One hit threw us onto our back, and the next took a wheel. We already weren't very invertible, so we tapped at this point.

Next match was lined up to be Delta, an angry looking vertical spinner, but one without a wedge, so we had thin hopes for pushybot glory. We got some good driving practice in, and brought the robot over to fight. Somewhere in between all the announcements of the fights, and our fight, we missed the memo that Delta had forfeited. So we won a thing! This was doubly exciting because Glasgow Kiss had already pre-emptively forfeited its match, meaning that we won two things! And beat Glasgow Kiss! Technically! Mostly because it looked like this after it's match with Triggo.

After a long conversation with the Big Black Richard team who was out early (they had a fantastic monstrosity of a 15lber robot's weapon assembly, 6000RPM bar, mounted on a spring-loaded cam-actuated vertical arm) and it turns out they had a speed controller, which they graciously lended us. So we were back in business!

Next fight was against Cathii, which was a ring spinner having some troubles, and not spinning. We popped it up high early and actually balanced it on it's side briefly, before knocking it down and hitting it for a bit until the belt popped off, and pushed it around to a judge's decision. We won that, and were on to Big Ripto again, which went predictably. The first hit broke the baseplate off, and the battery popped out through the new hole and that was the end of that. I'll post a video when it goes online.

Finally, we fought again as a pushybot in the rumble (Big Black Richard needed the speed controller back) against Drill Master Drill Massacre (SKBT's roommate's majestic beast), Big Ripto (not going full throttle), and Gracious Pipefessionalism, a torque-reaction robot made from pipes. We pushybotted our hearts out until Ripto was flipped and everybody else died. And we won!

All in all, amazing weekend and I learned enough that I can't wait to redesign my design with tons of new ideas. Thank you SKBT!!

Drumthing was a blast. I'll be back for the next tournament with my own robot for sure. And I brought my roommate along who's drawing up all sorts of ideas now. It's gonna be great.

Lol Mako clone. Also, I like that VS Naryar, the flamethrowers are a cool touch.

138
also it's inspired by Madiaba's bot... in gumba... the thing that beat Cataclysm IIRC. that was so long ago

I haven't heard that name in a looooong time. Anybody have the splash saved from that?

You'll find yourself browsing the Battlebots wiki, the Robot Wars wiki, BuildersDB, and all sorts of odd things you used to find boring.

not everyone is badnik

Welcome to Gametechmods. You're ours now. Here's what you can expect. You'll stay for a while, see a few threads, learn a bit, and see a few new things. You'll bookmark the place for further reference. This is where it all begins. Before too long, you'll find yourself checking on GTM in increased frequencies. First it'll happen occasionally during the week. Then once every day or so. Then more frequently. You'll find yourself checking on it twice a day. Three times. Once per hour. Before you know it, you'll be browsing it for hours at a time. Slowly, your life will take a back-seat to Gametechmods. You'll find yourself forgetting to call people. You'll be late for work because you'll be reading showcase threads. Slowly, your life will decline into a mindless chaos. As GTM slowly consumes your mind, your humor will be replaced with our humor. You'll become glued to GTM. It'll be the only place you feel accepted. And then, you'll start accepting the robotic combat community. You'll find yourself browsing the Battlebots wiki, the Robot Wars wiki, BuildersDB, and all sorts of odd things you used to find boring. But now it'll all be commonplace for you, as a normal part of your life. Your personality. And then, someday down the road, you'll realize what has happened to you. Your loved ones will have left you. You'll be alone. Unemployed. Struggling to survive. And worst of all, you'll be hooked. You won't be able to fight it, because we will be all you know, and all you remember. You'll slowly dissolve into madness, or mindless stupidity. Whichever comes first. And then, one day, you will snap, and all remains of your former self will be crushed under our weight. Welcome, my friend. Welcome, my brother. Welcome to your new home. Welcome to Gametechmods.

Pretty much this. But at some point you'll get obsessed enough to design and build your own real robot. Then you're REALLY sucked in for life.
