To be honest I don't see why we can't just say that IRL isn't a core meta but it can be used for title/belt fights if BOTH the champ and challenger agree. That rule doesn't hurt anyone
the problem is the format. champion decides the meta, everyone gets the chance to send a bot. if even 1 person doesn't want IRL, then your idea doesn't work anymore. This will happen 99% of the time, so it's easier just to do DSL/Stock/Ironforge instead. In fact, I would enter every month and say I don't want IRL.

IRL building could easily be turned into competition. Just everyone acknowledge the fact that everyone is going to fight to win instead of solely making a cool bot and BAM, you have yourself IRL competitive. The problem with DSL-S is that it has hardly any basis in reality, but IRL has a standard for making robots that would work IRL. It's currently about making cool bots, but you can definitely make a sub-meta in the challenge board where the goal ISN'T to make cool bots, but is to make realistically functioning robots that compete to win and not to look cool. It's easy.
No. The only thing IRL has going for it is that people like to make cool bots. What you're proposing is a dumbed-down version of DSL-S. The rules required for such a thing are either subjective, or someone has to create a literal novel to encapsulate them. Do you put a weight limit on weapons? Maybe a DP limit? How heavy does the chassis have to be? Can we use anything polycarbonate? Is there specific armor that needs to be used? Does the control board have to be placed centrally, with room around it for the "wiring"? Just accept that we will not be using it for the Challenge Board Title and move on.

Yes. the only point of your system is to allow for IRL, but it doesn't even fix the problem. it just makes the whole system convoluted and not as fun. sorry you disagree, but I like 090901s idea (with the caveat that the champion always decides the meta). dragonfire, thanks for getting this set up and ready to go by next month!

After the bracket, the title holder can propose doing a DIFFERENT meta, which can be any functioning mod. However, the challenger and champion MUST agree on this.
how is this any different than any other challenge? the champion can just keep not agreeing on anything, and then either the challenger is forced to agree on IRL or the champion doesn't actually get any decision power.

if someone is the board belt title holder, and they we're like "yo the only way you can take this belt from me is to beat my IRL robot with yours", that would never be fair since IRL is so subjective.
The reason it's banned for the monthly belt is because it's no longer a consensual choice for the opponent to be OK with a lottery fight with no real rules.

IRL fighting competitions are banned (for title fights), because it doesn't make sense.
You guys are more than welcome to use the second style of competition, which is 1v1 BOTM style (both post a splash and people vote on the best). Which is actually what the original challenge board idea was.

Due to recent ~drama~ concerning Challenge Board titles, I figured it would be a good idea to bring up something I posted a while back. We also now have more active admins as well so I believe it should be possible to have it run as intended.
GTM Challenge Belt
-1 challenge belt holder, the challenge belt holder changes every month (how this works below)
-The Challenge Belt would be a banner or something that would be below the holders username
-Challenge belt holder picks the Mod (Stock, DSL IRL, DSL 2.2, Ironforge), weightclass (LW, MW, HW), and arena (you have to be reasonable with this) for that months challenge belt challenger to fight him in. (Cannot pick the same Mod/Arena two months in a row)
-To be eligible to challenge for the belt, you would need to win a challenge during the course of the month.
-At the end of the month, all the people who are eligible for to challenge for the Belt and sent a bot (You can send your bot anytime during the month after you become eligible) to Challenge Belt Host compete in a Mini single elimination bracket, with the winner facing the current Challenge Belt holder to fight for the Belt.
People currently eligible for first Challenge Belt are 090901, Avalanche, Badger, and Dreamcast for winning challenges during the month of September, then RedAce, playzooki, Shield, and Wacky Bob for being current title holders under the old system. Challenge winners from October will be added to this list as well.
The building criteria for the first month will be decided by having everybody eligible pick a mod/weightclass and one will be randomly selected from the pool.
Currently this is just a discussion, but I would be hoping to implement it by the end of October.
