Discussion / Where is the guide to AIing?
« on: July 01, 2011, 10:33:42 AM »
It's not for me it's for a friend, I remember it being helpful to me when I was just starting out. I'm speficically looking for the one that explains what each variable in the binding means; that part is not covered in the page on the RA2 wiki.  What I did find was this link that just redirects me to GTM's main page  https://gametechmods.com/?do=Guide_to_AIing
And I was hoping that someone had archived whatever used to be there.

General Support / FBS_2 binding help
« on: June 29, 2011, 06:18:45 PM »
I'm having a problem with the FBS_2 binding.  As you know, it's programmed to stop spinning and chase its opponent after a time specified by "Chase_Time", the problem is, my robot won't ever start spinning in place again after the first time.  Can anyone help, or recommend a better binding to use? (I need one that lets the robot SnS and use spinning weapons)  Here's the code if it helps.  I set the fbs_range low because I don't want it to spin in palce unless the opponent is really close:

Code: [Select]
list.append(("13 Black","FBS_2",{'nose':math.pi,'chase_time':15,'fbs_range':30,'right':1,'PreSpinEntrance':30,'radius':0.3,'topspeed':150,'range':99,'throttle':130,'turn':60,'turnspeed':2.5,'weapons':(9,10,11,12)}))

General Support / Slim gold motor in DSL?
« on: June 27, 2011, 11:11:17 AM »
I've seen a lot of DSL-legal robots that use what appears to be a very thin gold-coloured spin motor.  It's not the slimBody, it's a spinner motor.  But I can't find any such component in my fresh DSL copy, even with cheatbot enabled.  What is the txt file?

General Support / [AI] The right sequence of numbers in "Weapons"?
« on: June 21, 2011, 02:29:37 PM »
In an AI binding there's always a set of numbers after "Weapons" (unless it's a rammer) that tell a bot when its weapons have been broken off and it should switch to ramming/evading.  How do I figure out the right numbers to use?

Thanks in advance.

Discussion / Legit custom components/packs?
« on: June 21, 2011, 12:59:31 PM »
As a replica builder, I'm always interested in new components.  Mostly because of shape - new shapes present new opportunities for replica building.  I thought it would be good to list all the component packs that offer original-composition components, rather than just reskins of existing ones.   I'm trying to compile a list of all such components and packs.  Individual components are fine too as long as they're not just reskins.  Here are the ones I know of:

Lu-Tze
Dummy (D1/D2)
Darkrat
Beetlebros
Wham's Killerhurtz & Terrorhurtz axes

So yeah, if you guys know of any other legit components or packs that don't crash the game, that would help a lot.  Thanks.

Thanks

General Support / Shift Weapon AI help
« on: May 23, 2011, 10:36:41 AM »
I'm tinkering with the ShiftWeapon AI for one of my bots (It's the one where you mount a spin motor onto a servo so that the configuration of your spin weapon changes constantly) and I don't understand what the variables do.  Can anyone explain these, plus the range of acceptable numbers?
'servoNbPos', 'servoTimer', ''servodelta,' and 'servorange.'

Also is there a way to make the servo pivot less often.  At the moment it's shifting about once per 1-2 seconds

Discussion / Recommended OS?
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:37:34 PM »
Hey guys, my laptop died and I have to get a new one.  Problem is, I'm not sure if the new laptop will run Robot Arena 2.  I had XP on my old laptop, I'm thinking of getting a new one with Windows 7.  Will Robot Arena 2 with DSL run?  What OS's do you guys use?

Thanks.

EDIT: salvaged the replicas from a backup drive.  I lost some videos I was working on, but the important thing is all my bots are safe and sound.

Site News and Feedback / Tournament Bailing
« on: April 04, 2011, 10:50:12 AM »
This is the second time in a short period that someone's remorselessly bailed on a replica torunament.  I think it's time to re-evaluate the punishment for tournament bailing.  I mean, if someone's lost interest in hosting a tournament, how is it a punishment to prevent them from doing so?  I may be acting reactionary, but I think the punishment for flushing down dozens of users' hard work should be more severe.

I propose that bailers, during their ban period, should not only be banned from hosting tournaments, but from entering as well.  A little bit of the "treat others as you wish to be treated."

TLT me all you like, but I couldn't live with myself if I just turned my back on my own tournament.

Existing Games / Best 3D-graphics Zelda Game?
« on: March 14, 2011, 10:23:10 PM »
I'm trying to get into the Legend of Zelda series, especially the 3D versions, but I don't know where to start (The 2D games' controls were too fiddly for my taste).  What would be a good Zelda game to start with if I'm looking for one with a gentle learning curve?

Off-Topic Discussion / Watson

Anyone following tech news will know that today was the debut of Watson the Jeopardy-playing computer.  Did anyone else watch?  And are you rooting for the humans or the machine?

Off-Topic Discussion / Video Game songs that sound like real-life songs
« on: January 25, 2011, 07:11:29 PM »
Like the title says, do your favourite video game songs remind you of any songs you've heard in real life?  Here's one:

"Parks and Recreation" Theme Song:

Off-Topic Discussion / Mario Paint Composer

Does anyone here use Mario Paint Composer?  So far I've made 2 songs (and since they are song replicas it fits perfectly with my YT name)

General Support / Piglet + Hypno Wheel = Havok
« on: December 02, 2010, 09:26:28 PM »
I have a beetleweight with a havoking problem.  It's got 2 piglets (yeah yeah, I know, but the Astroflights don't fit in my chassis) and 2 hypno-wheels, and it havoks often and unpredictably.  Is this a glitch on my copy of the game or a common problem?

General Support / GMF Compiler give "runtime error"
« on: November 26, 2010, 06:28:45 PM »
I'm trying to recompile the RW arena after scaling everything down, but I get an error, "Runtime Error '9' Subscript out of range."

All I did was change the numbers like Click instructed in  my thread "Scale down an entire arena."  At first I thought it was because I had an extra empty line, but I kept getting the same error even after I corrected that.

Anyone know what to do?

Off-Topic Discussion / 4 Chords Songs
« on: November 14, 2010, 03:57:00 PM »
Has anyone else seen the 4 Chords Song by Axis of Awesome?  I thought it was really clever observation on mainstream music:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I&feature=related#ws

It got me thinking, what other "4 chords" songs are there?  All I can think of is "Total Eclipse of the Heart"

Existing Games / What game is this?
« on: November 08, 2010, 10:58:49 PM »
I found this photo, it looks to be a screencap of a Mario game, but I can't figure out which Mario game it's from.  Anyone know?

General Support / Salvage a chassis shape from a corrupted bot file?
« on: November 07, 2010, 03:00:35 PM »
I think I might have ****ed up my Not Perfect replica, I put a skin on it and now it won't load in the botalab.  Please please please help me I don't have a backup.  Can I edit the bot file to get rid of the skin?

Many thanks.

UPDATE: Does anyone know how to make a new bot with an empty chassis using the bot file?  If I can salvage the shape, that would be the next best thing.

I can't get the skirt hinges to be invisible outside the botlab, despite putting "alwaysvisible = false" into the txt file.  Help?
