This is the official place to discuss feedback regarding RA3 during the course of its early access development. Anything bug related should be reported in the following thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=19008.0There are a lot of issues with RA3 as of its initial release. However, the dev team has shown that they are committed to listening to feedback from the community to improve the game. We ask that you keep all discussion in here both CIVIL and CONSTRUCTIVE. It is also important that we tell the developers what we like about the game so far to ensure that these features remain in the game and can also be improved upon going forward. Please try to follow the following format, provided by LiNcK: Feedback area: (Chassis making, item placement, online, etc.) Game Version: (Steam > Properties > Local Files > Current Content BuildID) Reported On: (Date) Feedback description:Recommended fix:Priority: This thread will be heavily monitored to ensure that its usefulness is upheld, to promote the improvement of Robot Arena 3 as a game. The following are feedback posts that were made before this official thread was made, and as such do not follow the suggested format. I've spoilered them to avoid clutter, but feel as though the authors of these opinions have a right for them to be heard. My list of reasons why this game is bad.
UI is old and looks outdated. No weight classes. Scale of size is terrible. You can only move at one speed. You have to very precisely move components into place as there is no snap to grid function. You can not edit a bot once you've uploaded it to the Steam workshop. Components can go outside the chassis. Components can be overlapped with ease. You don't need a control board to wire up a robot. The online functionality is broken. The host always wins. You can move before the game starts when in online play. Servos and burst motors stay in the air when moving the start/finish and therefore cannot be judged easily. Parts can go through the robot during gameplay. (I was able to break the burst motor basically) You can't make a two wheel robot properly. The chassis can be distorted to be put through itself. "Havok" explosions have happened on multiplayer. Camera constantly moves down in the bot editor at times. Camera angles have to be changed via mouse. The skinning system is terrible and needs to be reworked. Train runs robots over, does no damage.
I'm going to consistently update this list when I remember more reasons. I'll also add a reason if someone says it to me.
i was going to analyze something playable but RA3 isn't as it is now
-it tried to traduce the game in french and failed -no 2 layers option only for bots, which would simply -building a 2D layer in 3D is very confusing -building a chassis is confusing in general.
building:
-clunky. there is no collision mesh at all, when i put some zteks on my baseplate they were put halfway through the chassis and i had to raise them for them to be properly placed, and when i raised them, since it didn't raised by increments one ended up higher than the others -when i rotated a motor, first i couldn't rotate it before placing it (so it ended being badly placed) but then when i rotated it it wasn't by increments either, so i had to try several times to have a motor that was rotated 180° from the other and then i'm not even sure i could put it properly
here. then i asked for a refund.
don't buy it right now. maybe they can fix it but as it is now it is unplayable.
OK, so with my limited playtime here are the main things I've come up with:
Pros: Being able to move, rotate components after we've added them is pretty sweet As above with chassis points, I actually think the chassis layer stuff is very well done, after I had some trouble with it initially. Deleting 1 component deletes all the components attached to that component I played 1 online match and as the host it worked well, except player 2 not loading in properly. But I assume that'll be fixed. The bot exchange is pretty dope The actual battling physics is better than RA2 I think
Neutral: Floating components. It should probably be a big con but I enjoy the freedom it gives, especially considering you're locked to a grid
Cons: No rotation lock, so it's hard to get components to line up properly Same as above for vertical height adjustment All component placement is locked to a grid until after placement UI is very poor all around, but especially in the botlab. Consider even copying RA2's UI scheme, the current has very little info, and as such it's impossible to know how many batteries you need, for example Motors in general are too weak Drive motors impart too much torque on the chassis, and for some reason it feels like components don't affect this, so it's really easy to make a bot that cant move anywhere because it just backflips Can't move any motors in the botlab The AI is abysmal, most of the time they immobilize themselves The damage points in battle are too large and don't mean much, overall there's hardly any destructive feeling in battles, there needs to be more feedback to the player There's a ton more but I can't be arsed to remember it all right now, may or may not update this list of cons.

Any clashers around here? I've been messing around with this mobile game for a couple years now and just started taking it somewhat seriously in the past 6 months or so.
My level 4 clan needs a couple more active players for weekly wars. A lot of our top guys stopped playing recently. If anybody is interested feel free to shoot me a message here or on skype.

So for those of you that haven't checked out the tournament discussion lately, I'm trying to organize a competitive, team based ra2 league. More info on that here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=18422.0What I need to know from you guys, is how many people would be interested in entering this sort of thing. Keep in mind this may require you to send in updates to your bots on a weekly basis depending on what we settle on going in. The rules are not set in stone yet, and I need your help deciding on and developing all the different things we want to make happen. Any input you have, please direct to that discussion thread.

[11/12/2015 7:31:12 PM] Badnik96: but it would need to be a massive community thing. like, one person couldn't run that Sounds like exactly what this community needs. Those of you that have the displeasure of having me in your skype chats know that I've been grumbling for a while about how to wake gametechmods back up into the thriving virtual robot combat hub that it could be. I believe that the only way for this to happen is to give ra2 a purpose. A reason for people to want to play it. We need some effin competition. I propose that we organize and run a dedicated RA2 league. The problem is, there's a load of different elements that go into this, and every little detail makes it more complicated. My vision is a team based league structure similar to various competitive sports, with weekly matchups. I want this to be just as interesting for the competitors as the viewers. I know that I haven't watched a tournament match that I wasn't involved in in a very long time. Narrowing everything down to a group of teams makes things easier to follow. Spectators could show their support of their favorite teams in their signatures and whatnot. I'm dreaming here, and I get that, but I really think it's worth a shot before we slowly dwindle into nothingness. There's a lot of stuff here. This was my original proposal. RA2 League
Year long league structure 3 seasons
LW Season MW Season HW Season
There is a grace period between each season, as well as an offseason at the end of the year where offseason activities take place.
Number of teams is dependent on number of players. Number of matches per season is dependent on number of teams. Timeframe of each season is dependent on number of matches.
Players who display interest at the start are placed into a talent pool. X Amount of captains are selected. Captains will draft from that talent pool during the first offseason. Draft order will be selected randomly, and a snake draft will commence live on some form of chat service such as skype. There will be free agents who do not get drafted. Sorry.
Drafts in susbsequent years will occur when enough new players show interest for each team to gain a new member(s.)
Every player on each team is required to build a bot for each season. Matchups will occur weekly, and will be randomly chosen. What bot will be used for each match will be decided during the week leading up to the match, in secret. Points will be scored similarly to BBEANS ranking system, and put into the teams' total points. Point leader at the end of HW season will be crowned champion for the year.
The majority of the ideas I have here are up in the air. I just want to get a feel for what everybody's interests are. This would take a lot of commitment from a lot of people. We would need multiple hosts willing to record matches on a weekly basis. Each team would need to have at least one member who can AI. Ideas that specifically need input: 1. Length of the championship year. What I mean by this, is do we really think that year long system is sustainable, or would people lose interest? How can we shorten it? 2. Divisions. The few people that were around when I started babbling about this expressed concern that my proposal was only for stock. They felt that Ironforge and DSL should also get some form of representation. 3. The Draft. Half of me really wants people to be able to make a team of 3 or 4 with a couple of their friends, which would be pretty baller. But at the same time, does this allow for the creation of super-teams, and is that really a problem if so? The New York Yankees exist. Bayern Munich exists. They both have huge fanbases. The draft is the solution to all this, but what do people prefer? I'll think of some more and add it to the OP once we get the ball rolling on this conversation. EDIT: This is what we are currently proposing based on discussion so far. This league will be draft format. Bots will be proposed at the start of the league season. In between weeks, you will be allowed small tweaks to your bot so that it improves over time. This will take place in Ironforge TC. Ironforge is uncharted territory for a lot of people. That helps to even the playing field. In addition, ironforge was created to be exciting to watch, with bots flying all over the place and plenty of destruction. This of course means that we will likely be following standard DSL IRL rules. No stacking, limited glitches, components cannot intersect components completely. etc. If it isn't technically possible in real life, it isn't going to fly here. Some things that need discussion: Livestreams. We want to livestream the matches the night before they are released in recorded form. Commentary. We want a commentary team. Is it worth it? Weapon restrictions. Ironforge is destructive as all hell (so I'm told.) To prevent weapon spam, in addition to the IRL rules, we are considering limiting components from the weapons tab by weight class. Something along the lines of 5 weapons for LW, 7 for MW, 10 for HW. Those of you with IF experience, how does that sound?

Andy please find a way to contact me about getting your GTM account back. You will have to serve the full warn/mute issued for allowing your account to be breached but I want to get your account secure ASAP.
As far as your other accounts are concerned, not my chair not my problem.

Over the past couple days I've noticed a trend... A lot of account sharing has been going on. What part of "DO NOT TELL YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE" do you guys not understand? Things that get posted with your account are YOUR responsibility... It is not our fault if someone knows your password and does something stupid!
This is a warning to everyone; Keep your password a secret. Anybody who thinks their password may not be secure should change it ASAP. If I find out that other members are logging into your account, I will ban BOTH users for a VERY long time.
That will be all.

The one thing I hate more in this world is when people talk behind others' backs. Yes, I've read what was posted in the thread...
It was made noted by a wise man before I took power here that a moderator cannot be afraid to be the bad guy... I made sure i took that to heart. But that doesn't mean I'm not open to feedback... Next time someone has a problem with something I do, come to me first instead of bawwing to your friends about me.
And to imply that I'm willfully blind to what goes on around here, and simply jump on individual cases is completely ignorant of the past. If you paid anywhere near to the amount of attention that I do, it would have been remembered that in the past I've posted photographic evidence AND have documented my entire process when I go to work here... The whole "superhero persona" that I'm apparently seeking was something that resulted from 123STW's drawings... As if there's a ton of glory in having a whole facebook conversation posted publically badmouthing me.
It needs to be understood that I don't do this for kicks; I don't enjoy spending hours at a time reviewing threads. I do it because I was what this community needed to get back on track. My goal is not to be a hardass and piss people off... but sometimes that's just what this job calls for. I take pride in knowing that I've helped make GTM what it is today.
All I'm really trying to say here is from now on, if someone thinks I or any of the other staff on this site is acting out of line or could do something better, please just come to us... If this was the big misunderstanding you guys say it is, I would have been more than happy to remove the ban.
Oh, and one last thing. The whole "power-crazed cronies" bit is actually valid... Keep your eyes peeled, I planned on addressing that in the next few days, just haven't had time. I do work for a living...

This was not what I was expecting to come home to tonight. I was expecting to clean up a little bit from a separate issue that I haven't even had time to check on yet. Instead, I've been sitting here for probably an hour and a half taking notes, both physically and mentally, in regards to the following thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,6817.0.htmlLet me just start of by saying that this is a prime example of why we do not allow "I'm Leaving" threads in this community. I'm really appalled at what went on in this thread. I know this was playground, which is supposed to not be moderated. As such I am not looking at foul language or anything like that. I swear like a sailor on those parts of the forum too. But the big issue at hand here is something we've been battling for a long time. But TX isn't the only one at fault here. Fueling the fire in big flame wars such as this is something that we cannot condone, and something that I do not take lightly, regardless of what section of this website is is under. In this case, this was going to spill over into the other parts of the forum. But anyways, let's get to it... Here's what I did in this case. This thread was so big, I took the liberty of going through it and tallying posts. Every single post that was made in there I have an idea of. A blue tally represents a post that was of little to no negative impact on the fight as a whole. A red tally indicates a post that added to the fight and helped to keep it going. First posts in the thread were given the liberty of being marked as benign, consider that a gift to you from me. Posts that were not counted include my two posts as well as any post that was deleted (Yes, I can see posts that you delete. Keep that in mind from now before you hit the post button.) on Here's the chart: As you can see, some were much worse than others. Anybody with more than three or four posts in there should be ashamed of themselves, especially if the tallies are red. That concludes part one. Part two will be posted in a little bit, in which I will discuss each individual person who made an impact as well as punishments that are given.

Well folks, my semester ends next week and I'm likely to have quite a bit of free time. I figured I'd do something a little different... A sumo bot tourney! TOURNAMENT SIGNUP RULES: - I have AI'd before, and will reteach myself before I post signups. Any sort of complex AI for whatever reason is something that YOU will have to come up with. I also highly reccommend that you AI yourself, as I am of little experience when it comes to AI.
- Brackets will be determined randomly.
- Stock MW for the first tournament. If I do another one later on, it will be DSL.
- Realistic Rule: Undecided, discuss please.
- Type of bots allowed/disallowed
- Multibots are allowed, but they cannot exceed the weight of a single MW when combined. Both parts of the multibot must be eliminated to win.
- Tabletop gametype.
- Arena will be either the clawtop with hazards on or the flex arena with hazards off... Discuss please.
- Time will be set at three minutes.
- 2 out of 3 matches.
- Double elimination if time permits.
- All bot work except for skin must be done in the bot lab!
- All ingame glitches allowed.
- 16 Entrants if I there is enough interest.
The catch: No bot is allowed kinetic parts other than its drive! Wheels are the absolute ONLY thing allowed to move on your bot. Also, no components from the "Weapons" tab are allowed! Bursted wedges are allowed, but must remain static.
