Seriously, how on earth is this site still online?

If I spend $16 on anything else that's broken, I rate it down online and request a refund.

I don't know why game DEV should get a free pass.

Like Nary said, you can put 4 on a light weight, or 4 on each multi bot.

The rules were design so a SHW fits within the 800kg without using anti ballast, 4 seem to be enough to balance everything up to SHW, and having an cap is good to prevent unforeseen abuse.

So yes, 4 per bot.

Discussion / Re: ironforge AGOD
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:02:38 PM »
2 reasons

I did not include the biggest AGOD contributors (metal hinge, and skirt hinge with a collision box).

All parts are done in text, so everything is mathematically symmetrical.  Most of the motor weight is in the axle itself to reduce havok (heavy axle + light parts = more stable rotation).

While I don't have definitive prove, AGOD happens probably due to chaos theory and the game rounding to 6 digits.  With the amount of "double pendulums" in this game, even the smallest impurity will be blown out of proportion.

The most consistent ship I beat hard mode with is The Basilisk.  As long as you know how to avoid auto drones/Lanius (avoid Rebel Controlled Sector and Abandoned Sector).

The best Augmentations is Long-Range Scanners.  For 30 credits you remove most of the random factors from the game.  If you see it in store, buy it even if you have to sell something.  Buying this early almost guarantees a victory.

For the extra module, you need cloak to dodge the big attacks the final boss throws at you.  You might upgrade it once as a damage buffer but you definitely don't want to put more than 1 energy into it.  You won't be able to dodge the next big attack if you cloak for longer than the minimum amount of time.

Well, it will probably be fun to break for a week even if the game ended up sucking, unless they took out building entirely.

Make both the shell and the chassis as light as possible, then put ballast at the base of the bot.

Corpses stink, and only seem cool in video games when you don't smell them.

Then again, real life Battlebots aren't particularly exciting anymore.  It's either everything on 1 spinner or pseudo armored wedge.

As an IRL competitor I would highly disagree with you.
The problem is mostly in the upper weight class.

At the lower weight class the material is strong enough to be toss around the arena and still be functional.  At heavy weight the forces are so great that spinners either rips a bot in half or rips itself in half.  Unfortunately TV tends to focus on the heavy weight.

IRL and DSL both require a different way of building and thinking, they're both slightly different skills really.
And of course they're both awesome when done well.
Yes, IRL requires shutting down your frontal lobe, as every IRL decision makes your bot function worst in game.  You know more weapons are better in RA2 whereas real bots are best 0-1 weapon.  You just end up with nothing but ambiguity.  The compromise is to use outdated IRL bot types that let you weapon spam, such as shells and drums, and ignore the hate from the community.

Then again, real life Battlebots aren't particularly exciting anymore.  It's either everything on 1 spinner or pseudo armored wedge.

I'd say IRL is more so for beginners of RA2 or even artbot builders.  That me though.
People went back to IRL because the whole DSL-S thing went dry.

Flail Ram, Wram Popup, TRFBD, and FSnS with 1 usable weapon is not particularly exciting.

Granted IRL didn't last long since it has about 50 thousand house rules.

also let's be honest RA2 is not a skill based game in the slightest, someone could in all seriousness become the best player in the world in like 4 days if they just copied the best bots and saw how to do everything properly from tutorials. smash is much harder and requires more dedication as a competitive game
You do realize the discovery is what made RA2 interesting right?  RA2 is a problem solving game, not a muscle memory twitch reaction game.

Nobody cares if you can solve a crossword puzzle with an answer sheet, or clone a bot with no innovation.

Modifications / Re: ReForged AI Pack - Development
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:11:42 AM »
I know that there have been AI packs where it was made by one person, 15 teams and all. However, that took years of development.
It's worth noting that most (read: pretty much all) of the 2-ish years that it took to put out ASAI was spent not actually working on the pack. If I actually put in time every day to make the pack it probably would have been done in up to 2 or 3 months at the most.
Took me 2 weeks to put 10 teams together in 123AI, then wait 2 months for other people to send in their bots.

I'm pretty sure the way rammer AI works and the fact that about 10% of bots have top armor would mean that flail rammers would risk really high damage against them. I've never seen the matchup but the fact that half of a flail rammer's weapon weight won't even be in range of the weapons of a TRFBD means it barely matters how much weaponry it has in total. Then again as I said I can't claim to know.

"Pseudo crawlers" could probably be removed by setting some sort of standard for stabilizer strength, since from the sounds of it they basically spend half the match not having controlled movement and the builders bank on it.
If you can't claim to know, then why do you keep insisting otherwise?

You know what happens when razors are on flail?  They flex.  You cannot avoid those stupid weapons rather you are a VS, a TRFBD, or a popup.  You get on top with an upward spin?  It knocks the weapon up.  You get under with a wedge?  It knocks the weapons down.  A few seconds of that and you lose half your weapons.  I don't theorycraft.  I have ty4er's flail rams so I know how they behave.

I am not stopping anyone from building, I just don't care about DSL-S anymore because I don't see any new ideas working.

Pretty sure at least the former two get soft countered by TRFBDs, but if you say so. I missed most of the flail ram stuff that came up (I assume this is why ty4er is now considered the worst DSL builder ever) and I haven't seen any pseudo crawlers, but that's just due to me being absent for 8 month intervals.
Flail ram do not get soft countered by TRFBD, and no way in hell can TRFBD beat a wram with 350kg worth of razors.  20 seconds in and neither a FSnS nor TRFBD will have weapons left.

As for pseudo crawlers, it just means all the VS/HS that don't even try to have sturdy stabilizers.  They just load up with razors and win by bouncing around 9 out of 10 times.

Ban razors and you nerf a lot more than popups. Banning flails and generally popups though does open the field somewhat.
That's the whole point, ban razors and you kill everything flail (FSnS, Flail Ram, TRFBD).  Hell you don't even need to ban flails themselves.  Conversely if you ban flail you also defeat most reason for using razors.

Wram Popups?  They don't use flail they can just swap to something else, a little bit less damage isn't going to kill them.  They just spam beaters/DS light as without razors they will de-weapon everything even easier.
