Stock Showcases / Re: Inf. - The Rebirth

i strongly refute the idea that this implementation will lead to wedge wars. ive done plenty of testing over the past few days to say that popups will not have any unfair advantage under these rules. wedges on a bot have always been an advantage as opposed to non wedged bots, so nothing is going to change there.

also, servo/snapper enhanced weapon motors have a great effect on the speed at which the tribars spin. i'm totally fine with a horizontal spinner at the lightweight level with a 9 weapon tribar if the weapon is un-enhanced. its harder for them to take hits and get back up to speed this way.

I forgot to add SnS parameters in the original post, which have been updated/edited.

and i dont think that it will be a battle of wedges following this, most bots use wedges anyway. I think it will really open up the variety of effective bots you will see in all weight classes.

I'd like to see INf. build another famous mace HS. Absolute Chaos is a little outdated.

someone fetch me the ban-hammer for this FOOL!

anyways here are my ideas on the horizontal spinner limitation parameters:

LWs: No tribar horizontal spinners allowed to have more than 1 weapon per tribar tip, if the weapon motor is snapper/servo loaded. if the weapon system is baseplate/anchor mounted, the bot is exempt from the rule.

MWs: Only one tribar horizontal spinner is allowed to have more than 1 weapon per tribar tip, if the weapon motor is snapper/servo loaded. if running this setup, only one horizontal weapon is permitted. if the weapon system is baseplate/anchor mounted, the bot is exempt from the rule.

HWs: Only two tribar horizontal spinners are allowed to have more than 1 weapon per tribar tip, if the weapon motor is snapper/servo loaded. if running this setup, a maximum of two horizontal weapons are permitted. if the weapon system is baseplate/anchor mounted, the bot is exempt from the rule.

Also--in any weight-class--- "Sit & Spinners" that use a weapon setup that feature horizontal spinners are BANNED. Project Trinity style setups are also BANNED.

this is a very basic starting point, but please let me know your feedback on the matter. i firmly believe such implementations would provide the necessary re-balancing the stock format needs.

dreamcast-
it is pretty much impossible to upgrade the battery in any case here unfortunately without making serious sacrifices, which this bot itself already makes.

red ace-
its definitely no landmark design, but it was just something to prove i could still pack a lot into a tight package, serve as a rebuild for an older bot, and also serve a stepping stone into something larger overall...

... AND what would that be?

I am taking a stance against stacked Horizontal spinners in the stock mode of this game.

That may sound absolutely crazy coming from the father of the 36HS ( ME ,  NOT Sage  ;) :p ) but it has been something that this game has needed in the stock mode for a long time coming. Bots that use horizontal spinners must follow certain parameters, which I would be glad to expand upon. if people want to hear it...

Because frankly, the unbalanced nature of horizontal spinners i am sure killed a lot of interest for many builders in this game, not to mention the generic identity that stacked & burst/servo enhanced horizontal spinners developed as designs became more and more optimized.

For every healthy game, there needs to be some sort of game balancing, and this may be the first step in a long line of steps that needs to be taken in order to make the stock version of this game both more interesting for people to play and more competitively balanced overall.

This is one of those instances that I call "fun with snappers."
Did you use EFFE to get the redbirds in the chassis?

my stock builds are always legal. everything seen here is snapper loaded.

good to see you back. love to see internals. been a long time since I played stock. guessing just 1 blue snapper in the back with just a T connector or something?

Not sure if you knew but stock building devolved a lot on the whole unfortunately since the component freedom mod got released.

i didn't bother to share internals because there was not a ton to see, and you pretty much guessed the setup spot on.

i'm not worried about the component-limit mod affecting how stock should be approached/played. anyone can count to seven so keeping things in line shouldn't be that difficult. otherwise i dont see how it affects building unless there is some other benefit to it i am not aware of.

edit: ah the component intersection.

well my quick 2cents: dont use the freedom tool and expect any respect from me unless it is for-fun purposes only. i wont be fooling with it.

with much adieu

*mega bump*

had to build a little something to get the juices flowing. i know i have about 40 showcases in here, but this was the most recent one i found so ill build off this one.

lets breathe some life into this place shall we?

pretty standard lw. if not for havok it would be much better, hence the name. redbird drive, rad weapon motors, nifty power. sorry for the lazy skin/splash, i do not currenly have a working standalone version of photoshop.

gonna revisit my old ai pack and use that as my motivation to build/upgrade.

Site News and Feedback / Re: What would you like to see from GTM.
« on: January 17, 2019, 11:35:14 AM »
k343 might have left but i have returned (for the time being)

actually the only reason i bothered to play this game again and even mosey around this place was the fact that it was still alive. really, i almost fully expected to log-on here and find this place dead.

but im happy that gtm lives, and this is a pretty tight knit community still as i can see. sure the posting is a lot less frequent, but for those still around im sure we can put our heads together and find something that could spark some more interest into the game overall. the game is surely not dead, and for those who have been around since the early 2000s as 090901 mentioned, there's a part within us that doesn't fully let this game go.

i'm going to see what i can do to on the stock side of the game now that i dont work 2 jobs and have some free time at nights on weekdays to mess around. personally i've been thinking about a fully re-balanced implementation of the stock game, with added component customization options and such. like i said im gonna mess around with the idea for a while and see what i can make of it.

im all here for feedback on that, as well as to make suggestions for other ideas here at gtm.

Modifications / Re: RA2: ReStocked (2018) AI Pack
« on: January 17, 2019, 09:54:25 AM »
Overall, I love this AI pack after a thorough play through last night. There are a few AI bugs here and there, but overall I have very few complaints.

Offers for improvements:

1) Updated UI to give it a more sleek look. It is supposed to be a "restocked" version of the game, after all.
2) Something to replace the mindless HS bots (BEAR, LugNut, Tornado) with some designs that carry a bit more authenticity and feel.
3) There are a few bots I find to be on the weaker side, or a few that could use a slight tweak here or there. Ill keep a running list of these as I play more. Iceberg comes to mind, but that has always been a difficult rebuild.

anyways, love the AI pack, I recommend that everyone try it out. cheers.

it was the custom smartzones. it took me a while to think of this as the issue.

might just wanna add at the top that the madiaba sz's are needed because if you are a n00b like me, you just may forget that you need them.

gonna explore the pack now.

if this is true then damn. i picked a supremely ironic time to try and get back into this game somewhat.

id assume many of you were not around when k343 and i originally became acquainted, back in the days of the old official ra2 forum. then again, some of you probably were. mind you this was back around 2003-2004. but we had many a great time back in the day online and such.

its a shame we fell out of contact, but hey k343 became an admin while i was gone, so i know he's been carrying the torch well.

i know its been quite some time (several years), but best of luck with all your endeavors k343.

It could be the version of RA2 you have...

"copied it straight to a clean ra2 index"

this looks phenomenal. so much work was put into this by many great builders over the years. im glad it has finally reached a point of completion.

that said, every time I try to bring the competition into combat, the game crashes. not sure what the problem could be, as ive tried troubleshooting it for a day now. copied it straight to a clean ra2 index and havent had any success. has anyone else had this problem?

cant wait to try it out once i get it working. thanks redace for putting in the work to finish this.

Stock Showcases / Infinite's RA2 Showcase

Hi all......

No, you havent woken up in the year 2009 to open this thread! I've just come back around the old stomping grounds (again) after I tried out Ra3, realized that sucked, and then further realized my old Ra2 showcase was locked. Definitely a shame with all the content on there, but I'll digress.

Been playing RA2 for a few weeks now after rediscovering all my old game files on an old laptop computer. I've been recompiling and redesiging all my old bots for 2 AI packs that I want to release after initially starting them eons ago. After making numerous empty promises to return to this community in the past, I will be here for at least a few months on a full time basis. And I mean, almost everything has been redone to some significant extent.

Hopefully there are souls on here who still remember me and will follow along with what I have to share. After all, this game used to be a way of life for me. Working on the initial splashes as I speak, but I will post some official previews tomorrow. Didn't want to overwhelm with too much content in my initial post. Eager to share with everybody what I have been working on.

Real Robotics Discussion / Re: BattleBots 2015 Discussion
« on: June 30, 2015, 09:02:54 AM »
Just wanted to give a special thanks to Yugitom for putting high quality videos up on youtube in such a short timeframe.

dont wanna go back to something that may have already been discussed (i dont feel like searching) but was anything mentioned about the bots like Beta and Bulldog that have not been included in this season but appear on the website? The guys behind Killerhurtz/BETA were some of my personal favorites back in the day... and who doesn't remember Team Bigger Brother. Very curious as to what transpired there...

Anywho, the return of Battlebots has been glorious so far, IMO. Never would have stumbled upon RA2 if it had not been for my childhood love of BB...

FWIW, gotta root for Tombstone or IceWave. I'd love to see a destructive bot win the nut! Also total BS that Chomp made it through as a wildcard over Nightmare or even Shredderator...

hello

i am alive. i will hopefully post some things soon.

been a long time. but with battlebots back..... impending (maybe) RA3..... i figured i'd come around, for a visit at the very least. i left a lot of half-done projects to sit and waste on my (several) hard drives, so maybe i'll actually get arooooound to finishing some of them.

plus, the real world sucks, in case anyone was wondering. i'd give anything to be back around this forum somewhere around 2009 in my past life as a hothead teenager. quite odd being an employed adult now, i must say.

if ya wanna chat, dont hesitate to send some pms.

looks like it will be hard to keep bots on the weapon. AKA it's a little skinny IMO

First weapon setup was wider, more of a FS/VS combo, but the weapon motors got ripped off way too easy.

How about razored arms coming out from the sides for additional stability and some motor protection?

I was thinking something along these lines yes, and ill rid of the snowplows (filler weight rn) for max poss razors. Just need to come up with a viable/effective setup.

and nary thinks a stock bot is shmexy? yayyyyy

also, Revenge of Sage's Beard will be up tonight/tomorrow lmao. Don't expect something all too serious
