Contests / Fight Of The Month

Well, guys, while BotOfTheMonth’s doing BOTM, I’ll be doing Fight Of The Month.

It’s basically Bot Of The Month, but instead of voting on bots, you’re voting on bot fights.

Rules are simple.
> to win, try and come up with the most epic match-up you can on either Robot Arena 2, or Robot Rumble 2.0.

>capture a video of the bots fighting, just like in a tournament, but make it no longer than 3 minutes.

>submit the video to YouTube, and once you’re done with that, PM me the link.

> get creative! I encourage you to input music background into your video, or to make a catchy intro. This is all about creativity.

Need to see demos? Look at any of the BBEANS videos on the BeetleBros website.
By the end of September, I’ll post the vids, and we can vote to see who wins!

Off-Topic Discussion / My final words

Hey, guys

   Due to situations in my life, I'll be leaving GTM for quite a while, if not, Forever.

I know I've been a real pain for you all to deal with, and I hoped I have improved ever since I wrote that apology out to all of you.
Before I go, I just have a few things I want to say-

I want to thank you all for helping me understand the way GTM works, and for helping me develop my botting skill. I especially want to thank the administrators for keeping GTM running for this long.  Another couple of people I want to thank are Kix and Badnik for helping me with RA2. The rest of you, you're all great.

Second- Make GTM continue to shine for me. Spread Robot Rumble 2.0 around, just like you did RA2, and you'll make GTM what it once was.

You may have noticed that I have recently posted my 3.0 version of my Stock AI, along with Tech Wars 2, and you may see me post more mods in the future.

Discussion / Removing old stock showcases?

Hello again, it's me, the most annoying person on the planet.

I was wondering if, since Stock is dead, if we could remove all of the old Stock showcases that haven't been replied to for over a month.
I got this idea from the fact that my stock showcase is the only one still going, and possible RedAce's.

This may seem unnecassary, but I would like some answers.

   I don't know exactly why, but I appear to be the only member, along with RedAce that plays Unrealistic Stock nowadays.

While I see Stock dying, i see IRL getting stronger, which is good, but I'd like to see Stock become great again.

...so why is Stock becoming less popular?

Hey, guys...
Well, Hoppin's making the LDAI pack for DSL, and I'm going to make the GTM community one for Stock.

Here are the guidelines.
>your bots can be unrealistic, standard, or IRL.
>CF is only allowed in IRL. Not Standard or Unrealistic.
>You may use ALL glitches, including Hax Mode.
>Use only the components found in the original RA2 v1.4 game. No customs are allowed.

6 bots max, 1 team.
Your team pic must be 256x 256 pixels
This is how the bots should be arranged.
Bot0- LW
Bot1- MW
Bot2- HW
Bot3- Extra, or AW
Bot4- Extra or BW
Bot5- Extra

I will be using the omni binding for all bots (Because Omni binding works for everything) except rammers. I'll use the rammer py for that..
pm me a zip file of your team with the txt file with the team name and AI bindings, along with the team file containing all 6 bots.
please pm me the bindings. I'd hate to accidentally miss-AI one of your bots

There will be a minimum of 20 spots in this Ai pack. Any spots that are not claimed, I will make teams for.

Okay, now all-together, ANYone can participate in this, n00bs or not.
 If any of you don't know how to AI, and still want to participate in this, then make sure your bots are all facing the default heading in the botlab, and I'll AI them myself.

Good luck! I would like to have many people participating!

Here's a handy tip for AIing a bot for newbies- Ever encounter a time when you AI a rammer and it spins too fast when it turns?
Here's a way to fix that problem. It can be done all in-game, making it really easy to do.

For 2WD rammers.

wire the forward/backward analog normaly.
...but when it comes to the Left/Right analog, wire only one motor.

Left- right motor turns clockwise
Right- left motor rotates counterclockwise.

for 4-6 wheeled rammers.

test in the AI, or by your controls, and you'll realize how easy it gets to steer the rammer!

Other Tutorials / How do you rename arenas without crashing RA2?

Hey, guys, you'll have noticed that all the arenas I have made are basically remodels of original arenas.
Whenever I try to rename the gmfs and all the corresponding files, the game crashes. Can you guys help me rename them, please?

I just heard that DSL 2.3 is dead, and I'd like to work on DSL 2.4 I will appreciate help on this!

Here are the modifications.
Since IRL is THE most popular type now, I'm considering rebooting all the original teams (Red Zone-The Scrappers) to having IRL bots instead of Standard.
I'm also considering adding 6 Antweight teams and 3 Beetleweight teams.

I would like to have some help making these IRL bots! I know you're all great IRL builders!
Leave the Antweights and Beetleweights to me. I'll build those.

Another modification- unlocking all the BattleBots parts. I would also like some help on this as well!

Finally, a 2018 BattleBots Arena.

The sooner we get this done, the sooner we can get to playing it!

Other Tutorials / Axle-loading a Servo (Servo Loading)

Okay, this may seem pointless, but it needs to be discussed.

I've found a working method to axle-loading a Servo motor in Stock, DSL, and IronForge, called "Servo Loading."

You basically do the same setup as you do for snapper loading.

However, this is VERY difficult, especially if you're using the thin body servo, and you have to try multiple times to actually get the servo axle to fly clean off.

I recommend you use the RAD for this glitch. It's easy to fit, and also easy to axle-load.

Once you get the servo axle up and away from the body (or chassis in that matter) go ahead and attach the components as you would when doing the Snapper loading glitch.

As I know, many of you can probably extract RA2 v1.4 without a problem, so I posted this for only those who have trouble extracting the .rar file.

I already encountered a couple of bad rar extractors, so I know this type of situation happens with a few people.

I've been hearing some bad comments about my 1.0 AI pack having bad UI.
I wanted to change that, so I made an extended edition to my 2.0 AI pack, now with UI. I'd like your input here.

I haven't had time to look at the UI myself, but I'd like it if you guys tried it out. Please tell me how it looks, and please post a pic of the main menu!

Discussion / Difference between a Clamp bot and a Snare bot.

This may seem unnecessary, but it needs to be discussed.

There appears to be a struggle when it comes to identifying the difference between a Snare and a Clamp.

First off- A Clamp grabs and holds, a Snare bites, and releases. There is NO grabbing and holding action in a Snare.
Second-
A Clamp will grab and hold an opponent for a short period of time before releasing it.
A Snare will "snap" down on an opponent and then immediately release the opponent.

Third- You can think of a Snare as a hybrid of a Hammer and a Clamp, that attacks like a snake- striking and biting an opponent, and then letting go.
A Clamp will bite an opponent for about 10-15 times in a match, or 5-10 times if it's a crusher.
A Snare will repeatedly fire its jaw mechanism for up to 30 times in a match, like a hammer.

An IRL Snare can be identified by how it attacks- it will repeatedly raise and lower its claw, jaw, or whatever at a rapid rate, without actually grabbing opponents.

An Unrealistic Snare is basically a combination of a true popup and a hammer.

Snares also have a small "arm" or flipper concept that throws an opponent into the air before slamming it with the hammer-like weapon (jaw, claw, whatever.)

Ever get tired of fighting 1 bot on 1 bot?

Multiwarz is an alternative.
In Multiwarz, multibot clusters go head-to-head in the combat arena (re-skinned) in order to win a place in the "Jeopardy Showdown" part of the tournament, then the "Ellimination rounds 2"  and then, in the "Final Battle."
There will be a "Challenge Gang-up" after the tournament as well.
rules
>each participant can submit up to 2 multibots.
>maximum of 32 competitors. (that means up to 64 multibots can compete.)
> Your multibot must be Stock Unrealistic.
>your multibot cluster can weigh no more than 389 kg. (that's 199.0 kg. for each multibot.)
>use only the components found in the original RA2 game no custom components or cheatbot components.
>Use this binding with your multibot.

The first round
>3 min. matches in the Combat Arena.
>only causes of restarts are havok explosions.
>losers will be elliminated.
>only 1/2 of the competitors will escape this round.

Jeopardy Showdown
> Each multibot will be pitted against Cuts and Bruises (below) for 3 min. in a multibot-vs-bot tournament.
>This is not unfair, because I've beaten Cuts and Bruises with an AIed multibot, so it's possible to beat Cuts and Bruises.

Elimination rounds 2
>3 min. fights

Final Battle

Off-Topic Discussion / My big apology

Hey, guys, I just wanted to apoligize about my behavior in the past few months.

I wasn’t intending to act like a know-it-all, but I realized that my actions really did show it- I was getting hostile every time I was proven wrong, and this led into many riots that broke out in topics.
I also realized that I was questioning the authority of members who knew a lot more about ra2 than I do. I said that I respected them, but now that I realized how much of a big jerk I was, and not giving them the respect they deserved, I want to fix that.

Another thing I wanted to apologize for is my crappy advice.
I handled being corrected too critically, and I need to realize that the members with more experience in ra2 should be the ones giving advice, not me.

I thought I was being a good member, but after all the bad things I appeared to have caused, I want to stop, and become a better member.

I need to start giving you guys more respect instead of treating you like crap, and underestimating you.

With all this, I sincerely apologize, and hope I can finally start actually doing good in the forums, and help make GTM great again.

Creativity Showcase / Redalert’s rare Lego builds 2

Okay, since Kill never unlocked my other lego topic, here’s a new one.

First bot. It’s a drum spinner.
Gear trains that power drum had to be doubled to prevent fracturing. Trust me- when this bot hits another object, that’s 12 oz. of spinning legos hitting that object at around 1000rpm.

Drum actually spins, thanks to a ratchet and 2 large gear reductions, connected to the right wheel.

Here's a fun topic for discussion- ever have a math in RA2, where it's all one-sided? Post a pic or vid of it here!



To start off, I though i'd bring up a stunning one-sided match...
I teamed up with Sweet Revenge against PrIOritY and Smart Bomb. I was using my LW popup Tanya, as I expected Sweet Revenge to beat up PrIOritY and destroy it. I obliterated Smart bomb, but a few seconds after, PrIOritY had deliberately and unceremoniously flattened Sweet Revenge. It was my tiny 248.7 kg. popup Tanya vs. big 799.7 kg. PrIOritY. 
I tried to run from PrIOritY. It worked... but I lost because I only had 1256 hitpoints, and PrIOritY had 13,509 hitpoints.
