Active Tournaments / Double or Nothing - SBV
« on: September 18, 2020, 06:57:00 AM »
Don't worry, everyone. Pokken is NOT cancelled. If y'all can send entries in to fill the gaps I'll happily start it. In the mean time...

16 bots
Robogames Arena
10 rounds of randomized matches
After every draw, every competitor bets on each bot based on how well they think they will do this round. Every competitor starts off 1,000 Robux, but the maximum you can bet on one bot is 500 Robux. Each competitor is required to bet on every bot, even if they have little to no faith in it (you can just send in a dollar), but competitors are required to bet at least 100 Robux on at least 3 bots. If the bot betted on wins, the people who put money into it win it back. However, if it loses, the money is lost. (subject to change)

Contests / Yankee Siege Replica Competition 2020
« on: March 26, 2020, 07:39:32 PM »

Oh, baby.

OK, so a few fellas on Discord thought it would be funny to hold a competition centered around replicating the absolute megachad that is Yankee Siege 2. If you are unaware of what it is, end your life.

The competition will be on April 1st, and as soon as 12AM EST hits, the competition begins. You will begin building your replicas. There are no rules other than to make it as Yankee Siege-like as possible. Building ends the following day, April 2nd. Then, the tournament begins. The winner receives a blowjob from our resident poor person and infected individual, Kix Morox. In addition, the first to submit their design to me will receive what is dubbed "The Frenchiest Fry" from Mr. Toxic and the builder of Fagline 3 and Queermint, Hoppin.

This competition will be held on Discord only. Be sure to join the RA2 Central, if you haven't already, if you want to compete.

DM me on Discord if you are interested. This message will also be on there. I'll see you guys there.

Contests / Cringey’s Replica Rampage #2
« on: October 17, 2019, 08:11:30 AM »
So, after a less than stellar opening performance, we only got one entry. Thanks to the Skeptic for submitting!

Now, let’s do better this time with a more simple replica...
Two weeks as always. Good luck!

Contests / Cringey's Replica Rampage #1
« on: September 15, 2019, 02:31:57 PM »
After a pretty positive response, let's get started!
Just some common rules:
  • any game works, though they may be separated into their own categories when voting commences (ie: stock category, dsl category, etc.)
  • you have to recreate the bot i say
  • you get two weeks to make your bot and send your splash to me
  • at the end of the two weeks, a vote will be held to decide the best replica
Without further ado, your first replica bot will be:
And with that, Cringey's Replica Rampage begins!

Contests / Replica Challenge
« on: September 15, 2019, 09:24:23 AM »
I’ve tried this once before, I want to try it again!
So, one of the biggest reasons people start playing RA2 is because of replicas. We have creators like the Barangoat and Resetti introducing people to the game through their favorite robots from real life replicated in game. Building replicas is something many of us like to do, so I want to make a challenge off of it.
Basically, how it would work is that I will choose a bot from any competition (Battlebots, Robot Wars, KoB, etc.) and you guys will try and recreate it. You PM your splash to me and we have a vote on which one looks the best. You can do this is RA2 (stock or DSL), RR2, or even CAD!
So, what do you guys think? Anything I can add? Anything I should remove? Anything I should change? I’m open to anything right now. Thanks!

Robogames Arena
RA2CF, BFE, and OBJRA2 allowed
DSC's IRL Packs, Badnik Recolors, Geese's NPC fixes, etc, are allowed

Showcases / Cringey makes RR2 bots #LIKEABOSS
« on: August 04, 2019, 09:10:21 AM »
I love the hell out of this game. It's just so fun to use and fight with the pre-made bots and even my own. I'm still working out the kinks of it while I make the transition from RA2. So, I decided to start off my showcase with a replica. I have no idea if my spinner stats are any good, so you all might have to tell me.

Off-Topic Discussion / I quit.
« on: December 09, 2018, 07:49:20 AM »
Hey guys. I just wanted to make this announcement really quick.
I quit.
I can't do RA2 anymore. I can't do tournaments anymore. I just can't over the past few weeks everything just feels like a chore to do. RA2 just isn't what it used to be for me. When I got my new computer, the first thing I thought was "OK, I need to make something for so and so's tournament." Notice how I said "need" instead of "want". I didn't need to build anything. I never have. I just thought I did.
Before I go, I want to thank everybody here. It's been a nice year or so with you guys, and you guys have been excellent people throughout. I'm not leaving because of you. I'm not leaving because of a failed tournament or whatever. I'm leaving because I can't find enjoyment in playing RA2.
If an admin wants to delete my account, go ahead, because chances are that I won't return for a while. Sorry this was so short, I just wanted to get this off my chest. Many of you may hate me for making such a big deal of it, so go ahead. At least I won't be here to hear it.

Other Tutorials / Beginning Builds- A Beginner's Guide
« on: November 14, 2018, 04:29:49 PM »
I've seen a lot of these tutorials getting spread around, so I feel like I should try and make one.

So, you just got an account on GTM, and you cannot wait to show off your first builds! However, there is just one thing wrong. You do not have any builds. Ideas are up in the air to show this community. If you are having trouble with this, you might want to read this guide.

For starters, it doesn't have to be a masterpiece. I know you've been looking around in some of our showcases and want to make some elegant extenderbots, but hold your horses. All builders have to start somewhere. In fact, if you look at the very beginning of our showcases, you may see very different robots and building styles than what we build now. However, do not build something for the sake of building. You'll end up with something that you and the people of this community are not proud of. While these two rules may seem to contradict one another, it really just means that build what you want to build, but don't drag yourself down if it is not of the standards you see builders building today.

Another thing to take into consideration when building is what are you building this for. There are two main ways to build: competitavely and artiscally. when building with competition in mind, you want your robot to kick robutt in tournaments in such. you must understand which components are more effective than others, weight and damage wise. This type of building is a lot harder to begin with, so most begin by making artbots. Artbots are made to look nice, not to destroy the opponent. If you were to enter this into a tournament, it would get demolished after winning a fight or two by a long-time veteran builder. As stated before, they don't have to be blue-moon artworks, but rather a nice-looking creation showing that you want to be a part of the community.

Building styles are also important when entering tournaments. When in the "Personal Tournaments" section, you may find some posts saying "IRL", "DSL-S", and other such terms. Well, these terms mean what building style and what tools should be used in crafting a robot for a tournament. Building styles can be further explained here:

And before you go asking in the comments, yes, you can make a good looking AND comeptitive bot, but it is something even veteran builders struggle at.

OK, so say you finally got your art robot done. You take a screenshot, attach the image, and post it to your showcase. However, the ruthless members of the RA2 community tear it to shreds, bashing it for its ineffectiveness and blandness. Do not take it personally, as it is something we all experience during our stay at GTM. Don't go insulting the community, don't go into an edgy phase. Instead, listen to the few criticisms that you may have recieved to improve the roobt, or even make a new one.

Now say that you went for the competitive path, and your robot gets destroyed on the first round. As stated before, do not curse the world and blame the host for the loss. Instead, learn from your opponent to destroy them next time a tournament arises. However, what you don't want to do is make your robot a tryhard. Do not add multiple large typhoon teeth with little aesthetic surrounding the rest of the robot, as they ruin the fun for all involved in the tournament.

So guys, that'll do for my first tutorial. I attempted to make something not as technical and mechanical as other guides, but instead opting to make something to educate the new members on how to get their paths to greatness started the right way. If there is anything I missed, let me know and I will add it. Thank you, and goodbye.
