Archive: Guess it's been long enough since TBA3 wrapped up that the bug bit me again. Those of you that were around in 2016/17 may remember a tournament called "The Zone." Due to some... recent events... in the discord and as a response to Geese's guide for tourney hosts, I've written a tool for hosts that checks for most illegal BFE modifications. The link: https://github.com/SilverfishGTM/BotFileChecker Some notes:1: READ THE README. 2: This isn't a substitute for actually looking at the bots that enter your tournaments. In particular, THIS TOOL DOESN'T CHECK IRL VIOLATIONS LIKE CLIPPING. 3: If you don't care about downloading the code, you can just download the executable at: https://github.com/SilverfishGTM/BotFileChecker/raw/main/BotFileChecker.exe (Direct) 4: READ THE README. 5: Special thanks to cephalopod, Nabi, KILLER, geese, TheRoboteer.Enjoy!Changelog:V1.0.1: Fixed a bug where extenderbots would have components attached after a smartzone flagged as attached to the chassis (even if they weren't) V1.0.2: Log files now contain the name of the bot being checked. V1.0.3: Checker now flags styles of cheatbot2 components. V1.0.4: DSA now has its own warning flag. The program now remembers the last folder visited for inputting files. V1.0.5: Added a check for attachment to -1.

Hello, and once again welcome to The Battle Arcade! It’s been a while since the last one of these, and I’d say it’s about time for another. The gimmick, as always, is that the arena for a fight is selected randomly. One havok restart is allowed per bot, used on the condition that the havok obviously caused the loss. Entries will be allowed one major modification (defined as a modification large enough to cause me to change the AI line of the bot), and unlimited minor modifications until signups close. Match ruleset: -double-elimination - 3 minute matches Initially: -hazards on - best of 3 Beginning with the winner’s ro4 (and the second loser’s ro4) -best of 5 -hazards off

Round 2:Round 3: Round 4: Round 5: Round 6: Finals: The pool for arena selection is currently at a size of 55. This may be added to by me before signups end, and user suggestions are welcome until then as well! See “criteria for accepting an arena” below. Current arenas (Sorted by mod):
Arena Appearances:
Old stuff from signups:
For the first time, I’m going to be hosting TWO divisions instead of one! Building rules are: Stock division:HW Stock, Stock-Unrealistic building rulesAAM, BFE, HAX, RA2CF, etc. Banned.Clusterbots & SnS banned. DSL division:This division is going to use standard Orc's Wars 5 build rules, which can be found here (again, this is just the building restrictions, not the tourney format), with some edits:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DVpgLadgG2l9BxwuycujsRLUE_qp7AJINEakg7BnWsk/editTo restate, this is also DSL 2.4 IRL HW.Multibots Banned (This is less because I care and more because a bunch of arenas break with 3+ bots)Additionally, for both divisions, I reserve the right to reject a bot if I believe it’s pushing the rules, exploiting a loophole, or is going to be boring to watch fight (read: an SFTW). Signups will cap out at 64 bots per division, though I’m going to institute a 3-week signups deadline for a category once it hits 8. Users may also only submit one bot to each division (EDIT: DSL is now accepting second entries, Stock will begin this on Thursday, Feb. 11th).
Criteria for Accepting an Arena:
I’ll list 6 things that an arena should be to get in here. Think about them before you send me an arena: 1: An arena should let bots fight each other, not it. If two bots can’t traverse the arena to get to each other or the hazards are nearly guaranteed to decide the fight, the arena probably isn’t good for this tournament. Examples: Geosphere Battle Arena, High Dive Firepit, FlexTop. 2: An arena should be (fairly) bug-free. I want to minimize restarts due to havoks and such. Please try testing the arena to make sure it works first. Examples: AU Onslaught 1.0, Insanity Arena, Robotica’s Fight 2 the Finish. 3: An arena should be unique. There are plenty of reskins floating around, as well as arenas that are extremely similar to others. Try to avoid them. Examples: Any of the combat arena re-skins, DSL Tourney Arena (to RA2T#2 arena). 4: An arena should have meaningful terrain, OotA zones, and/or hazards. Quick question: What do the League of Champions, Trauma Pit, and Combat Zone have in common? They’re all boxes with no really meaningful hazards. There are already several arenas in the pool that follow this formula (Like the 3 above), so more aren’t necessary. Examples: Low Lag Arena, The Trauma Pit (Though an exception was made for this particular arena) 5: An arena should be designed for combat. There are arenas out there designed to make challenges for players, such as traversal, that aren’t really suited to combat for one reason or another. They don’t really work here. Examples: AU Challenge Arena, DSL Stunt Arena, DSL Soccer Arena. 6: Other If I don’t accept an arena that follows all the above guidelines, I’ll list a specific reason for it.
Rejected Arenas: These are some arenas I’ve decided aren’t going in the pool. I’ll list them and the guideline they break, as well as any specifications I think I need to make. You probably don’t need to bother reading this, it’s mostly just for me to keep track.
Stock: FlexTop: #1 (The tilt of the arena almost always decides the outcome of a match.) Practice Arena: #4 BBEANS AI: Small Arena: #1 (Giant crusher that doesn’t even give bots the chance to move if hazards are on.) DSL: Bat Cave: #4 (The giant ball in the middle does almost nothing, and other than that this arena is basically just an empty box) DSL Cave Arena: #1/#2 (A pit at one end of the arena that does not immobilize or eliminate a bot that falls in, leading to dragging fights) DSL Hamster Ball of Doom: #2 (Bots, for some reason, drive backwards on this arena) DSL Ice Arena: #1 (The hill on the side of the arena is nearly impossible to get up) DSL Lava Island Arena: #1 (The rising lava is not something AI are really programmed to avoid) DSL Obstacle Course Arena: #5 DSL Onslaught Arena: #2/#3 (This is a reskin of the AU Onslaught Arena 2.2, and even if it weren’t, bots just drive straight into the pit anyway) DSL Soccer Arena: #5 DSL Stunt Arena: #5 DSL Tournament Arena: #3 (Too Similar to the RA2T#2 Arena) Mars Base: #1 (This arena is nearly impossible for a reasonable bot to traverse) Robot Wars Arena: #3 (Too Similar to Robot Wars Studio 7) The Ring: #4 (Though the shape is unique and the terrain is more varied, neither of these things actually do anything to affect a fight 99% of the time) Robot Wars RA2: Northern Tour: #3 (Extremely similar to the PinkBox/RA2T#2 Arena) Robot Wars Live Arena: #3 (Same reason as Northern Tour) Robot Wars at EB Games: #3 (Are you sensing a theme yet?) Standalone: Any reskins/minor mods of another arena (there’s a TON on the downloads page, particularly of the combat zone and containment cube) A A A Test 2: See "DSL Hamster Ball of Doom," above A: RA-Reborn Arena v1.0: #3 (A newer version of this is already in the pool) AA Joust Arena: #5 AU Challenge Arena: #5 AU Onslaught Arena 1.0: #2 (This arena needs patches. If someone wants to send me a working version, I’ll gladly add it to the pool.) AU Onslaught Arena 2.1: #3 (A newer version of this is already in the pool) AU Soccer Arena v 1.0: #5 Battlebox 2.0: #3 (A newer version of this is already in the pool) Geosphere Battle Arena: #1 (The entire arena is a slope directly into a giant spinning bar) Hangar ‘Alien Visitors’ Arena: #1 (A blade flies around the arena, hitting bots at random.) High Dive Firepit: #1 (Do you like flipping bots immediately due to bad terrain? Well I’ve got an arena for you!) Insanity Arena: #2 (Bots get stuck in the floor. A LOT.) Low Lag Arena: #4 (LITERALLY AN EMPTY BOX) Magnetron Photon-Phazer Arena: #3 (The “R” version of this arena is already in the pool.) RoboGames Arena: #4 (It’s basically an empty box.) Robotica’s Fight 2 the Finish Arena: #2 (Bots have an extreme tendency to get stuck in the starting poles.) Seizure Arena: #3/#6 (Too similar to the RA2T#2 arena. It also was, y’know, designed to cause seizures.)

Well, let's try this for a fourth run (hopefully this time with a lot fewer screw-ups).
Sooo,
Meta: Stock-Unrealistic LW RA2CF: Banned HAX mode: Banned SnS, Multibots: Banned BFE, AAM, other external modification: Banned cheatbot2: Banned except flamethrower Fight length: 3 min Arena: RA Reborn Arena (skinned) Entry slots: 6 One major modification (defined as an upgrade where I have to change the AI line of the bot) is allowed, with unlimited minor modifications, no modifications allowed after SBV goes up. I also reserve the right to reject a bot if I feel it is trying to exploit loopholes/an sftw. I personally will not enter due to the small slot count.
And here's how the fights will work: the tourney will be run in 5 rounds, in which each entrant will fight every other entrant. At the end of the round, the competitor with the fewest wins will be eliminated. At the end, the last man standing wins. One havok restart per bot per match.

Well, it's late, but here's the TBA2 SBV!
Splashes (WARNING: METRIC TON OF IMAGES):
Bracket (WARNING: SPOILERS):
Videos
Ro16Jeff vs Cantine:Predictions:Jeff's a big bar spinner, and Cantine's claws are somewhat fragile. Case closed. 2-0 Jeff.Results:2-1 Jeff. A bit of luck occurred in match 1, where Cantine shoved Jeff OotA. Orange Crush vs Ember TE 2.1Prediction:Orange Crush has a pretty powerful weapon on it, as well as being durable, but Ember has an insane amount of ramming power. However, Ember has a tendency to flip itself. 2-1 Orange Crush.Result:2-1 Ember. As it turns out, Ember was able to immobilize OC twice before flipping itself. The only game OC actually took was due to luck as well. An impressive display! Shard vs One Orc Siege BPrediciton: Shard has a fairly powerful flipper, OOSB's wedge is bad, and it can't self right. 2-0 Shard, case closed.Result:2-1 One Orc Siege B. This was a major upset for me, mostly caused by the fact I didn't realize that 45 degree angle extenders did damage lol. Anyway, a very entertaining series to watch, sans game 2. Thot Slayer vs SeraphimPrediction: I actually wound up using this in testing, and Seraphim has been able to knock off TS' disc before it got destroyed. 2-0 Seraphim.Result:2-0 Thot Slayer. This made me sad to watch. First, a pin, and then arena luck?! Frankly, I'm a bit depressed looking at this. Return of Panic Attack vs GreasePrediction: Grease has a solid flipper, but its wedge is bad and its chassis is exposed, while ROPA is a bar spinner. 2-0 ROPA.Result:2-0 ROPA. An amusing series if you like watching parts fly, but nothing surprising. Middle-Aged Solaris vs Melta IVPrediction:Melta's axe is HUGELY powerful, but Solaris has a pretty good spinner on it. I think Melta may be able to get to Solaris first. 2-1 Melta IV.Result:2-1 Middle-Aged Solaris. A great display of power from a solid spinner. Not much to say here. Scavenger A vs Polybius:Prediction: Gratz on the bye, Hoppin! 2-0 Scavenger AResult:2-0 Scavenger A. Fun fact: Game 1 had a double havok restart (one for each bot)! I think asbees may have created some kind of accidental nasty pickle. I don't know. Cocytus vs Blue Wave:Prediction:Cocytus is a pretty good pusher. If it can get decent arena luck, it's going to win most likely. However, blue wave does damage. 2-1 Blue Wave.Result:2-0 Blue Wave. No such arena luck for DOT. Ro8: Jeff vs Ember TE 2.1 Prediction: Jeff's a bar HS with pretty long reach. I'd say 2-0 Jeff, maybe 2-1. Result: 2-0 Ember. I underestimated the sheer speed Badger's bot has. Thot Slayer vs One Orc Siege BPrediction: This is going to go one of two ways: Either (1) Thot Slayer's disc is low enough to hit OOSB's forks, in which case it demolishes Orc, or TS' disc is too high to hit the forks, in which case OOSB demolishes Thot Slayer. Either way, 2-0 somebody.Result:2-0 Thot Slayer. Absolute destruction, no questions asked. Middle-Aged Solaris vs Return of Panic Attack Prediction: This is a pretty powerful HS fight, but MAS out-weapons ROPA. Predicting 2-0 or 2-1 MAS Result: 2-0 Middle-Aged Solaris. Would have been 2-1 or maybe even 2-1 ROPA if that havok ff hadn't occurred. I'm sorry for you, TGM. Blue Wave vs Scavenger A Prediction: BW's reach should easily be able to knock Scavenger A out of the park. 2-0 Blue Wave. Result: 2-0 Scavenger A. So, uh, Scavenger A hits like a truck. GG WP!
Loser's Bracket Round 1: Cantine vs. Orange Crush Prediction: If Cantine wins this, I'm gonna be REALLY surprised. 2-0 Orange Crush Result: 2-1 Orange Crush. Arena luck occurred in game 1, but otherwise no surprises. Shard vs. Seraphim Prediction: Seraphim's a powerhouse, and Shard probably won't get OotAs or immobilizations without serious arena luck. 2-0 Seraphim, maybe 2-1 Result: 2-1 Shard. And Sagaris moves on?! That's an upset, and I love it! My condolences to TR, though.
Melta IV vs. Grease Prediction: Frankly, with Grease's wedges, I can't see it winning. 2-0 Melta IV. Result: 2-0 Melta IV. No surprises here.
Cocytus vs. Polybius: Prediction: Two weaponless bots here, gonna give it to the one with a wedge. 2-0 Cocytus, maybe 2-1 if Asbestosstar gets lucky. Result: 2-0 Cocytus. Nothing to see here, move along.
Loser's Round 2: Jeff vs. Orange Crush: Prediction: Jeff has shown massive amounts of power in the winner's bracket, I'd expect it to be able to take a big advantage over OC. 2-0 Jeff here. Result: 2-0 Jeff. Surprisingly close, however. I think OC could have taken it to game 3 with a few lucky hits in both games. Shard vs. One Orc Siege B: Prediction: This is a rematch from the Ro16, and Orc looked really good in that matchup. I'd say probably 2-0 Orc, maybe 2-1. Result: 2-0 Shard?! Didn't see that coming. Orc shows a distinct lack of power (literally, it got immobilized by running out of battery), and the newcomer keeps going. Impressive.
Melta IV vs. ROPA Prediction: ROPA has massive amounts of power, and we've seen that Melta already has issues with HSes. 2-0 ROPA. Result: 2-0 Melta. Seriously, this round and upsets!
Cocytus vs. Blue Wave Prediction: Another rematch. One bot has weapons, one doesn't, I think you see where this is going. 2-0 BW. Result: 2-1 Cocytus. You know, I really need to stop with these predictions. Loser's Round 3: Jeff vs. Shard: Prediction: Sorry, but I have to give this to Jeff. It's shown tremendous power, and though shard is a good flipper, Jeff is a better bar spinner IMO. 2-0 Jeff. Result: 2-1 Jeff. Honestly Shard really surprised me with how much it can do. An impressive run, but ended here. GG Sagaris!
Melta IV vs. Cocytus: Prediction: If Cocytus wins this, I'm gonna be REALLY surprised. 2-0 Melta IV. Result: 2-0 Melta IV. A surprising amount of pushing power shown by kaiser's bot, but no other big surprises.
Ro4: THOT SLAYER vs. Ember TE 2.1: Prediction: I just don't see badger's bot winning this. The matchup just seems favored. 3-0 TS. Result: 3-1 Ember. Badger's bot, on the other hand, does not care what I think.
Middle-Aged Solaris vs. Scavenger A: Prediction: Frankly, I think Scavenger doesn't stand a chance. 3-0 Solaris, maybe 3-1. Result: 3-0 Solaris. Small side note, this series drove me up the wall to record. It seemed like this thing crashed every other try. :P
Loser's Round 4:THOT SLAYER vs. Jeff:Prediction: Jeff's reach SHOULD be long enough to take out TS. Going 3-1 or 3-2 Jeff.Result: 3-0 THOT SLAYER. Welp, mechavore discs are broken. Moving on.
Melta IV vs. Scavenger A:Prediction: With how hard Scavenger A hits and Melta's short reach, I think kaiser's admittedly impressive run is over. 3-1, maybe 3-2 Scavenger.Result: 3-1 Melta IV. Well, this is now interesting. Loser's Round 5 ( ): Prediction: Honestly, if Melta wins here, I'll eat my non-existant hat. 3-0 THOT SLAYER. Result: 3-1 THOT SLAYER. Okay, something normal happened. Except that one game where Melta got a win by pin.
Winner's Finals ( Ember TE 2.1 vs. Middle-Aged Solaris ): Prediction: Again, MAS just seems like it counters ember. 3-0, maybe 3-1 solaris. Result: 3-2 Ember. At this point, I just feel like Badger's bot is out to spite me.
Loser's Finals ( Middle-Aged Solaris vs. THOT SLAYER ): Prediction: Honestly, I can't call this, but I think it's gonna be a 3-2. Result: 3-0 THOT SLAYER. NC gets downright obliterated.
Grand Finals ( Ember TE 2.1 vs. THOT SLAYER ): Prediction: We've seen this matchup before, and it went in Ember's favor. 3-1 Ember. Results (done game by game) Match 1: Ember gets completely obliterated by TS. It was nowhere near close. 1-0 THOT SLAYER.
Match 2: Ember almost manages to clinch the K.O. out, but TS manages to run it back. 2-0 THOT SLAYER, this is starting to look like a 3-0.
Match 3: Despite almost managing to get the kill for the sweep, TS gets K.O.ed by Ember, making it 2-1.
Match 4: Hoo boy, this was close. It goes to points, where Ember wins. 2-2, we're going to a game 5.
Match 5: Ember immobilizes itself, but it doesn't matter, having knocked both of TS' wheels off. Badger, by a 3-2 reverse sweep, is your TBA2 champion!

Well, since the first Battle Arcade was to celebrate my first year of GTM, how about a second for year 2? Rules are similar to the first Battle Arcade: DSL DSL-IRL Middleweight 16 Entrants cheatbot2 banned NO outside modification (e.g AAM) OTHER THAN BFE, HAX Mode banned, RA2CF NO LONGER BANNED. Clusterbots banned (I'd rather not have a repeat of the first one, thanks). Tourney will be double elimination. One havok restart will be allowed (if it was obvious that the havok directly caused the loss) before forfeit. You have one major update (defined here as an update that requires me to change AI), and unlimited minor updates. No updates may be submitted after signups. Fights will be 1v1 bo3, hazards on, until winners top 4, when it will become bo5, hazards off (including for the remainder of losers). I reserve the right to refuse a bot if I feel it is trying to break rules/abuse loopholes. Now for the gimmick: If you weren't there for the first Battle Arcade, the gimmick was that the arena was randomly selected from a list that could be contributed to before the tourney entered signups. This will carry over. Feel free to suggest arenas if they are reasonably balanced/skinned! (Tabletop is banned, for example, due to the arena wobbling.) Two years ago today, some kid joined Gametechmods. Two years later, that kid's been on hiatus for like 6 months and is getting sick of it. I'm going to try to get a revival together. Anyway, it's been two years! And I don't regret coming here. It's been wacky, and though I only have one tourney win (ironically enough, because I LOST), I do enjoy bot building. GTM was somewhere I originally went to see S_R's robot wars replicas, but, eventually, it became a place to see how to really play RA2. See you guys around soon!

It's an old game by now, but I still wonder if anyone plays this? Origin (if you care to join me): CalKyanite Also, what cars do you play? For me, it would be the Enforcer Koenigsegg One:1 and the Lamborghini Veneno.

Ok, I've gotten sick of this. I'm working on AIing bots for the Zone, but some are crashing my game for no reason. I tried literally just changing (on ronin's base AI) the name and AI type, but it gives me the "abnormal runtime error!" message and crashes. I'm running stock 1.4. Any ideas what it is?

I'd like to give hosting another shot. Here's a concept: 16 entrants
Stock LW IRL HAX Mode Banned No modifications outside of the game Meltybrain and crawlers banned One havok restart per match, after that, it's a forfeit. Upgrades: You may make unlimited upgrades that DO NOT CHANGE THE AI. YOU MAY ONLY CHANGE YOUR AI ONCE. MAKE IT COUNT. The gimmick: This will be run KotH style (BO1, winner keeps fighting, most wins, well... wins). 5 rounds will be run, with everyone fighting once per round. Seed will be determined by how fast you can kill some kind of SFTW. The current king will go first after round 1, followed in order of the least kills to the most. Arena: Starts as combat zone, no hazards. after 1 round, it's the king's choice, of any arena they want (as long as it works and is skinned appropriately). I will NOT be entering unless there are less than 8 people who enter at the end of the deadline.
Signups: 1: botomatic1000 (Major edit used) 2: jamied666 3: dragonsteincole 4: Rob Collins 5: botomatic1000 (2) 6: Rob Collins (2) 7: Tashic 8: Dreamcast 9: Asbestosstar 10: 090901 11: Mechadino 12: 13: 14: 15: 16:

Ok, the main tourney is finished, and congrats to Wen (1st), Mechadino (2nd), and Geice (3rd), time to give some awards!
Based on what actually happened: Kill count SO FAR (yes, the bonus matches are actually going to count towards the mvp stat(otherwise it'd just be the top 4)):
Geice: 9 (!) RedAce: 6 WenXiangLee: 5 Mechadino: 5 Thrackerzod: 4 Badger: 3 090901: 1 Silverfish: 1 DeadGenocide: 0 (By the way, I'm counting deaths to the AON2 Arena's pit as an OOTA and thus not a kill, as well as each kill on one of Wen's multibots as an individual kill)
The game's favorite arena: RA2T#2 Arena, with 4 appearances. Most out of nowhere victory: Mechadino vs RedAce The game's LEAST favorite arena: Robot Wars Arena. Fun Fact: In every game crash, every glitch restart or re-record, never once did this arena get rolled.
Okay, now for the voted stuff: BTRSHDBBDDTBL The community's favorite arena The community's LEAST favorite arena The community's favorite moment Best overall bot And, finally, the best of memes.
My votes:
BTRSHDBBDDTBL: Kyoto Favorite arena: AON 2 Arena Least favorite arena: Compressor arena Favorite Moment: The entire 3rd place match Best overall: Geice Memes: DeadGenocide.

Well, I don't know exactly what this goes under, but I'll assume off-topic just to be save.
One year ago today (and 4 days to be specific), I managed to make an account (why I lurked the replica section for ~5 years before actually joining is another story that I don't want to tell right now) on a forum called Gametechmods. I was a really eager kid who sincerely wanted to play the game and get better (although I overestimated myself). And that worked. Advice was helpful, people (with the exception of HurricaneAndrew lol) were friendly, and I overall have loved it. So I'll cut to the chase. Thanks. Thanks for being helpful and an overall fun, if not slightly awkward, community. It's been one year, and hopefully there'll be many more. :)
EDIT: And yep, that was really sappy.

Ok, I need to fight somebody, so why not wen? Anyway, here are the rules:
Stock-S HW Wen can use RA2CF if he wants, but I personally will not. Combat arena, no hazards No BFE/AAM/HAX, but since wen may use RA2CF, it probably won't matter, since you can replicate the effects. Best of 3
Anybody want to host?

When I try to open the game, it starts loading like normal, but before any screens appear, the process ends... This happened in Stock 1.4, download version, and DSL 2.2... any advice?

I was thinking(and have been since before I actually joined) that maybe a Gametechmods AI pack would be interesting. I don't know if anyone else has had this thought, and I probably would do it stock(for now). Any feedback/ideas?
