Wow, I am slow this year! It's already been a couple of days since we entered the comfiest, spooktaculariest, sitting-in-your-couch-with-a-blanket-and-hot-cocoa-while-the-autumn-rain-patters-outside-the-window-iest month of the year! Anyone doing anything special this month, or planning something big for Halloween? As always, I'll be here re-watching OTGW, Nightmare Before Christmas, MJ's Thriller, and the Scaredy Pants and Graveyard Shift episodes from Spongebob. There may be some Scooby Doo, Coraline, Summerween/other cartoon Halloween specials, old horror movies, and creepypasta thrown in there as well. I always love this month!

I'll be doing this again for RA2's upcoming anniversary on Feb. 18. There's a link to the last one in my signature if you're wondering what it's supposed to be. Basically serves as a kind of time capsule which shows the members of the community at that point in visual form. You can PM your individual signatures to me or just post them in this thread. I'll be updating this post each day to show how the image is getting filled out. Do not modify the active card, I only need your own signature. If you want it in a specific region or beside a specific user you can mention that too. There are no restrictions on image size, but larger submissions will be resized to fit in an area equivalent to 250 x 250, 500 x 125, something like that - reminder that there is a new attachment system for images uploaded through the site, but imgur or something works too. The card will be announced as "finalized" sometime on Feb. 18, so everything should be sent before that day, but I'll probably still add your signature if you're a few days late. It just won't be there for the day of the anniversary. Until then, feel free to discuss the poll question or anything else about your experience with the game and this community. What are your favourite GTM memories from the past year or so? Or from your entire recollection of the forum? Do you still enjoy everything as much as you used to? What do you think this is all headed for in the future? Will RA3 ever be playable???

A spectre is haunting GTM, earning the ire of many a frustrated builder who have ended up with a broken .bot file after attempting to apply a custom skin. Here's a quick guide on how to remove a broken skin from your bot. All info taken from https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?page=page2187 and https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/guide-to-the-bot-file-(re-up)/To explain why skins can crash the game, RA2 bots only accept custom textures in 24-bit .bmp format. Furthermore, the image must be square with sides equal to a power of 2, which means something like 256x256, 512x512, 128x128, or 1024x1024. Any other format or size will either look distorted or just break your bot. You will need Notepad++ to edit your .bot file, available for free on its website. 1) Find your broken .bot file in the Robot Designs or Teams folder and open with Notepad++. As always, right-click on the field in the bottom right so that it says UNIX. Be sure to make a backup copy of the file just in case you misread one of the steps! 2) Scroll to the very top of the file and click on the first line so the text cursor is placed there. Use Ctrl-F or Command-F to go to the first appearance of the text "RAW". This will take you to the chassis section of the component data and makes sure that your next search is not caught by the wrong result. 3) Leave the text cursor where it is and run the find function again to search for "true". You should be taken to a line with only the text "true" and the next line(s) either being really ugly or just saying "false". 4) If you have the right line, you'll have found the boolean "true" which tells the game to scan for a skin in the line under it, where the skin is encoded really messily and a "false" appears at the end. To remove the skin, just change the "scan for skin" indicator from "true" to "false" and delete all the skin information from the next line. If this is really lengthy and takes up multiple lines, just highlight and delete all of it. One way to highlight multiple lines is by putting the text cursor at the end of the "true"/"false" indicator line, scrolling down until the skin data ends, and pressing Shift+Left Click. After this is done, make sure that the line under the indicator value still has a single text of "false". 5) Save the .bot file and try it out. You should end up with a working bot with the faulty skin now removed. If not, you can try again with the backup you made earlier. Hope this helps some of you out!

It's past midnight EST, which means the month of ghosts, ghouls, and the ghastly is upon us, culminating in All Hallows' Eve on the 31st day. This is my favourite holiday season, post your Halloween waifus, cartoons, special episodes, desktop wallpapers, favourite horror movies, spooky music, and memes. One time when Trov used his wacky timeline reset powers, many old and new users on the RA2 Wiki were combined into one. Post your GTM stand/alter ego, or a link to your contributions if you can't figure out who it is. Not everyone gets one, only the worthy will thrive. I'm secretly Naryar so my power level is pretty high (none of these changes are mine, I've never even made a wiki account): https://wiki.gametechmods.com/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/Fracture

THIS GAME HAS TOO MANY COMPONENTS!!!!! AND THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME!!!!! HOW DOES THIS WORK Here is my LW VS (124.2 + 2x50 kg, Steel 1) that I miraculously won an in-game tournament with, though I almost lost to JaDeD in the last round. So coming straight from Stock, are there any new bot types in this mod? I think something called flail shell spinner is popular in DSL? Also are the in-game AI built IRL or Standard?

So you might already know that the Stock AI has armour that is twice as strong as it should be, in the manner of DSA. A while ago, I compiled a list of Stock chassis with Double Strength Plastic, Titanium, or Steel, and now finding it after a few months I thought it might be useful for bots requiring additional chassis protection.

The card is now closed. Thanks to everyone who signed! Signing ran from Feb. 18 to Mar. 22, 2013.First off, happy 10 years of Robot Arena 2! I felt like we needed to do something truly community-related for this huge day, so here's the GTM signing card! After a few contributions, this card will be filled with the names of every GTM user that was active around the time of today's anniversary. All you need is an image with your name somewhere in it to sign your forum name on the card, then just send it to me by private message. If your image is excessively large, it WILL be resized, so use the size other signatures as a guideline. The image at the top of this post will be updated every few signatures to show progression. I'll keep this open for a while (at least a month) so that we can get lots of signatures. If anyone is willing to make a nicer-looking (possibly RA2-themed) logo for this to add to the top of the card, it would be much appreciated.

10/06/2017: Many of the links are now covered by the tutorial index and have been removed. Added a few things I noticed both first and second-hand that quite a few pages on GTM get posted a lot in showcases or are important as reference, but are tricky to navigate to normally. This is a nice compilation of all those links in one place. If you are new to the site, I highly recommend checking out the Tutorials and Tips index first. Reference and TutorialsMythbusters: RA2 Edition by Clickbeetle Here, Clickbeetle performs tests for RA2 myths such as bigger chassis having more HP than smaller ones. Component HPs and Fractures by Trovaner Stats showing how much damage components can take before breaking off, if not attached directly to the chassis. RA2 Tutorials on RA2Wiki A few tutorials hosted on our wiki, but they are a bit outdated so try using them alongside other references. Bot Types on RA2Wiki Nice list of the typical bot types seen across all mods. RA2 Glitches on RA2Wiki Good for reference to some lesser-known glitches such as Servo Boosting. Quick Guide to AI'ing by Starcore Shows how to use pre-existing bindings to easily AI your bots. 36HS Example by Sage This HW bot type is identified by 36 maces or irons on 4 tribars, 4 HPZ weapon and 2 HPZ drive motors, and 2 black batteries. It is considered as an identifier that a builder is becoming very experienced, not to mention it does very well in battle. BFEing DSA by Clickbeetle Short tutorial on getting DSA onto a bot that already has a different armour selected, without having to rebuild the bot. As it involves BFE, Notepad++ is needed. Format of the .bot File by mjpieters Very detailed outline of what all the lines and values in a .bot file correspond to. RA2's Python API by Trovaner List of available .py functions for use in AI tactics, arena implementation, personal testing, etc. Compact Chaining by tankcat Compact Chaining Example 2 by Geice A method of chaining motors that is more compact while achieving the same effect. The two pictures shown are just examples; any extender setup that gets the axles of the two motors more or less aligned will work. You can use this fact to modify your setup to focus on saving weight, getting more out of the rule of 7, or stability. Batteryless Spinner Glitch by FOTEPX A curious glitch that enables spinning motors to work (albeit with very slow acceleration) without battery power. DownloadsFull Game Downloads on GameTechMods Includes Stock v1.4, DSL v2.1 and v2.2, Ironforge v1.1, and Robot Wars RA2. Custom Components Downloads on GameTechMods Custom components including SmartZones and antiballasts. Component Freedom Mod by Serge Something you can download to remove the limitations of the bot lab, including rule of 7. Be sure to read tournament rules on whether component freedom is allowed before you enter. AI Essentials by Clickbeetle A very helpful compilation of .py files needed for AI'ing bots. Though you may find many of these in AI packs, this has the "official" versions. AI Repository by apanx Huge collection of AI files updated from Clickbeetle's release for better flexibility. If you only require a select few and don't want your AI folder clogged up, make sure to read the code/documentation and check that out of the ones you download, their dependent files are downloaded too. WinRAR Downloads7-Zip DownloadsApplications for opening .rar, .zip, and other compressed files. Can also combine files into archives to be uploaded to GTM. Notepad++Source code editor needed for BFE, or bot file editing. However, do not mess with your .bot files unless you know what you're doing, and never use BFE to make unfair modifications to a bot for tournament or challenge use. Some examples of legal use of BFE are changing how shiny the chassis is or getting DSA on a bot as mentioned above. movepixel by nightcracker, courtesy of Mr. AS Installation GuideLaptop Version by Sage A great tool that makes stacking and component placement much less of a hassle, letting you move the mouse one pixel at a time. Baseplate Grid for Blueprint by Noodle, courtesy of SKBT Replaces the image in the background of the blueprint on the chassis editor with a grid that almost exactly matches the one used for the baseplate. While building your chassis, you can see exactly how big your chassis is going to be in terms of those little squares that appear at the bottom of every chassis. Just remember to use the right resolution. Bot Height Ruler by Trovaner A ruler for the chassis height editor. AI PacksAI Packs and Patches on GameTechMods Includes Starcore v4, ASAI, NAR AI, 123AI, ReForged, and more. ReStocked AI v0.1 Beta by infiniteinertia and co. Older AI pack featuring challenging rebuilds of the Stock AI by some of the most experienced builders of Stock. Also see Sage's Robot Designsinfiniteinertia AI v0.1 Beta by infiniteinertia Updated Bindings for infiniteinertia AICurrently only with bots from infiniteinertia, this AI pack is still considered one of the hardest in Stock. Now you can fight bots from any pack without having to close the game! ShowcasesThese are the showcases by some of the most advanced builders in Stock and DSL, provided to you to serve as inspiration for your own bots, or simply just for displaying the potential of RA2. Be sure to check them out and see some awesome designs! BroBots
- Stock LW
- All in-game and AI components allowed except cheatbot2.
- No custom components.
- No multibots.
- All building glitches allowed except BFE/AAM/Hax Mode.
- Combat Arena, hazards off.
- 1 free havok restart per match if it seems it affected the match's outcome in a substantial way.
- 8 entrants will each submit two Brother Robots, or BroBots, for a total of 16 bots. When the splash is posted, you will PM me with the name of the bot you want to use against each specific opposing team should you happen to face them. Two entrants may also submit one bot each to work as a team, but then one of them must be designated as the PM'er. I will randomly pick your bots for each match if you do not PM me with your desired matchups before I start filming (but I'll give a reasonable time frame of at least 72 hours or so). The bot decisions may be edited as the tournament goes on, but are not guaranteed to always go through depending on how short of notice they are changed.
- Submitted entries are final; no updates unless absolutely necessary. Both bots must be submitted at the same time.
- If after 30 days, the sign-ups are not filled, the tournament will start anyway and blank spots will be filled with free byes.
- Best 2 out of 3 Deathmatches, plus a Pity Rumble after the main bracket is done. Double elimination.
- The Pity Rumble will be between the 2 entrants who are knocked out of the tournament after the first two rounds, i.e. never win a match. Both of Loser 1's bots will face both of Loser 2's bots in a team rumble for a "loser's winner".
- Awards will include Tournament Winner, Pity Rumble Winner, Most Original, Coolest Looking, Favourite Match, Most Fearsome Brotherhood, and Unluckiest Brotherhood.
I will not be entering. I've always thought the idea of entering your own tournament was pretty weird. Basically what I was trying to aim at with this was to have a tournament where some strategy would also be involved. For example, if your opponent has entered a rammer and HS, and you have to choose between your VS and your hammer, you should probably go with the hammer.
In 1080p! View on the video page for the full experience.

Would it be possible to have a bot start, if needed, (i.e. a command should activate it) upside down in the Test Garage? It would be rather convenient when you're testing for invertibility.

Halloween is coming up...sort of. What other thread would I make? http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/creepypastaBasically viral horror stories. Some good sources if you're interested: http://www.creepypasta.com/http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Metahttp://inuscreepystuff.blogspot.com/The KYM page also gives some good places to start. --- Let's face it. I've played a LOT of horror games. Silent Hill, F.E.A.R., Amnesia: The Dark Descent, you name it, I've played it. However, only one game stands out to me as the absolute scariest game I have ever played. This is the kind of game that you'll have nightmares about a year after playing it. The kind of game you wouldn't even show to a person if you hated him. I found the game up for download on an old, relatively inactive forum. You probably couldn't find it you tried. I still don't remember the name of it. The forum only got a few posts per day, isolated from the rest of the Internet...and I hope it stays that way. There seemed to be an odd cult around the forum following the game. To see what it was all about, I easily found a download link and started the game up. The game started out with a grey and somber menu screen with poor lighting, and a dirty metallic background. To start, it seemed that I had to create a customizable character. Now, the most prominent part of the game at this point that stood out was the music...if it can so be called. Strange banging sounds were in the background - it was more like random noises than music. Unnatural drilling sounds and heavy hammers could be heard every so often. Anyway, my character could be equipped with a variety of cool weapons: axes, saws, swords...yeah, pretty cool. Unfortunately the game did not let me equip any of them, and I assumed you had to unlock them by progressing in the game. I guess I had to start from square one...no cool stuff on my character, but at least I got to give him a nice red-themed appearance. I started what appeared to be the first level...the game didn't really give many directions. Now that I think about it, did it give any at all? Anyway, my character started in a dark chamber with dull grey walls and no windows...felt like a torture chamber, really. Wait, torture chamber? Oh God, is that what those drilling and hammering sounds were...? This was where I realized that something was DEFINITELY wrong here. It was not your ordinary video game. There was a giant mechanical skull laughing maniacally affixed high up on a wall...I was really disturbed at this point in the game and wished that I'd stopped playing. But some odd impulse in me drove me to keep going. It was presented in a first person perspective, and some kind of terror machine with a HUGE axe attached faced me across the chamber. There was distorted screaming in the background...was it getting louder? But I couldn't move. None of the buttons did anything. All the while the machine raced toward me, and all I could do was watch as it hammered the axe down on my character. Seeing that axe digging deep into my character's flesh as it slammed down was horrifying. My character could do nothing as it was savagely destroyed by the giant weapon in the dark chamber that just kept hitting, controlled by a supernatural power. Then, suddenly, my character, now battered, broken and likely near dead, was ELECTROCUTED as if what it hadn't already suffered was enough. After another hit from the sharp axe, it was electrocuted another time and started having spasms all over the chamber, being slammed into the walls over and over again - hard, through some unknown force. The screaming in the background was now ear-piercing and my ears were ringing, but I could not summon the will to turn off the speakers, too scared to move. The screen turned black for about three seconds, then flashed back to my character, battered and broken, to be electrocuted one last time, finishing the job. It was definitely dead. The game, as like to call it, "The Torture Chamber" was obviously made by some sick-minded **** who just wanted to have fun scaring some victims. I still have nightmares about being battered to death by that monstrous axe. Search at your own discretion, but if you dare play it...remember the name "Robot Arena 2". --- I wrote that in like 40 minutes, haha. Now for a real one: --- You are home alone, and you hear on the news about the profile of a murderer who is on the loose. You look out the sliding glass doors to your backyard, and you notice a man standing out in the snow holding a kitchen knife. He fits the profile of the murderer exactly, and he is smiling at you. You gulp, picking up the phone to your right and dialing 911. You look back out the glass as you press the phone to your ear, and notice he is much closer to you now. You then drop the phone in shock. There are no footprints in the snow. It's his reflection.

A cute little retro platformer with a dark secret. It's free to download...play it if you dare. This page (especially the comments) should tell you more than enough. If you don't feel like playing it, then there's some really funny Let's Plays of it on YouTube, one of which I'm working on right now.

Random question, but who knows, maybe we'll find some correlation between good bot-building and neatness of handwriting?
My writing isn't what it used to be since I write faster nowadays, but it's passable and easy to read. The letters are a bit thin and thinly spaced out though.

This seems relatively simple...a helpful mod would be something that lets you work in the Components tab with the maximum zoom level, rather than always having to go back to Chassis/Overview and zooming in every single time. Or, maybe it's already been done?
