Modifications / New DSL-S Pack
« on: June 18, 2014, 12:25:36 PM »
So, it's been a couple years since the last Nar AI for DSL2.1. 50% of the bots are now horrifically outdated, and from how I see it, there is little chance of a groundbreaking innovation that'll change DSL-S enough to make current bots so in a few years time.

I propose a new community AI pack- but it should be a fairly difficult one. There will be a few rules:

1. There will be a rebuilding of the stock DSL bots- except the replicas. This will mean 45 free slots if you only want to submit a single bot. The stock DSL bots submitted must continue the theme of the original.
2. Each team requires a LW, MW and HW. The other three slots can be filled with one of the following: AW,BW,CW,SHW,UHW.
3. Only one bot of each weightclass per team to encourage a variety of the other weightclasses.
4. You may submit added teams- I will be doing a few. Include a Team Name, motto and image with your submission.
5. There will be a minimum quality requirement- but I won't straight up reject a bot and tell you to stop. I'll give you what advice I can and let you resubmit to your hearts content (not too much spam, please).
6. Be imaginative- all bot types and hybrids can be submitted.
7. Will follow the usual DSL-S rules, and cheatbot2 is banned. BFE, AAM, Hax mode are also banned. Trov glitch is allowed.
8. I can be more lenient with the building rules on UHW bots- but don't push yer luck m8.
9. For all you fellows who don't think you've got what it takes, let Nary help you here - https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11591.0

Tournament Archives / Clonathon 2000 (Name TBA)
« on: March 19, 2013, 04:36:53 PM »
The name :C

Each entrant will have to clone and "improve" another entrants bot. Who will clone who will be picked at random. You may clone any bot of that user's that has been showcased. This will mean that you wont really know who each person will be building as there should be multiple bots of each weightclass.

1. DSL Standard, no hax mode, no BFE, AAM etc. Trov glitch is allowed, but I'll hate you for it.
2. MW.
3. The only cheatbot2 component allowed is the pillow of doom. No others.
4. No skill restrictions- as long as everyone tries their hardest.
5. No bot restrictions. Go crazy.
6. I can AI, but I would greatly prefer it if you did it yourself. As the only bot I'll bother with AIing to perfection is my own, it will probably benefit you too.
7. Any "YOU AI'D IT RONG" type complaints will have their bots ripped to shreds by a UHW and posted on the front page for all to see, as well as being DQ'd. This does not apply if I did actually AI it not to the persons specification. If it doesn't work as you thought it would, and you complain, tough.
8. 1 havok restart per bot. This counts as a game changing event- e.g a bot being inverted for no apparent reason after it tears a part off of another bot.
9. 2 minute matches, so be sure to make as deadly bots as possible.
10. Double Elimination brackets.
11. Arena- I'm thinking RA2T2, or a slightly modded DSL tourney arena with higher walls. Hazards off.
12. 16 spaces, with a wildcard if there is enough interest. I myself will be entering, but I can relegate myself to the wildcard if necessary.
13. You get 3 goes at improving the bot. I shall check to see whether or not it has been improved. Basic bot type must stay the same, but you can hybrid it up if you so desire.

Only bots PM'd to me directly will be considered.
Signups will close at some point in the future.
Updates- 1 can be used between sending and when signups close. However, if the update is drastically different (ie new bot type) from the original, you will be moved down the queue.

HAI CFAB RULES

1. DSL Standard, no hax mode, no BFE, AAM etc. Trov glitch is allowed, but I'll hate you for it.
2. Weight class is up in the air for now.
3. The only cheatbot2 component allowed is the pillow of doom. No others.
4. There will be a minimum building skill requirement- talking latest NAR AI standard here. I want this to be a tourney where people are on the edge of their seats. Hybrids will be encouraged, but not necessary.
5. Wild bot restrictions appeared- No SnS, Popups (ooooh controversy), or flails (oooooh more controversy, but you could see how laggy cfab was xP)
General Support / Messing around with the .py...
« on: September 21, 2012, 06:57:51 AM »
Is it possible to change the Forward and LeftRight analogue controls into buttons, and have them split up (e.g "Forwards", "Back", "Left" and "Right")?

I've had a mess around in the .py, but due to my limited knowledge on adding new stuff (e.g Triggers and new smartzones, and new controls in general), crashes everytime. This includes an attempt to define the throttle and turning in the .py itself using the init text as a base.

Alternatively, are there any good python guides floating around that anyone can point me to?

Right, since I can't find the original thread I made 2 years ago, and I finally have fraps, I think we could give this another go.

1. DSL Standard, no hax mode, no BFE, AAM etc. Trov glitch is allowed, but I'll hate you for it.
2. 600 kg weight limit- this should make most of the bots new, and make you think slightly more about weight and where to use it.
3. The only cheatbot2 component allowed is the pillow of doom. No others.
4. There will be a minimum building skill requirement- talking latest NAR AI standard here. I want this to be a tourney where people are on the edge of their seats.
5. No bot restrictions. However, SNS and SS will be AI'd with FBS unless you do it yourself.
This counts as a game changing event- e.g a bot being inverted for no apparent reason after it tears a flail off another bot.
9. 2 minute matches, so be sure to make as deadly bots as possible. Invincible low damaging bots may be entered, but will recieve no brownie points.

General Support / RA2 on Ubuntu?
« on: January 18, 2011, 02:19:16 PM »
Okay, I have a friend who wants to play RA2 on Ubuntu. She's downloaded stock 1.4, extracted it and ran it in wine (?I have no idea when it comes to OS other than windows and Mac :P) . Unfortunately, it won't work, and gets this error message.

If RA2 wont work on Ubuntu for various reasons, then..meh :<

Tournament Archives / Unnamed Tourney Idea
« on: December 30, 2010, 11:56:57 AM »
Well, this is a long standing tourney idea I've had.

Rules:
1. Stock HW- but bots must be no heavier than 600KG.
2. 1 V 1 in the RA2T2 tournament arena (preferably reskinned- must learn how to skin:P).
3. Best out of 3, but all 3 matches will be recorded.
4. No BFE, AAM or ZeroG. All building must be done within the bot lab.
5. You may skin your bot outside of RA2.
6. Custom A.Is are allowed as long as they do not interfere with your bots performance.
7. Please A.I yourself, I can A.I but it won't be fine-tweaked.
8. If I do AI your bot and it loses, no bawwing, or you may well be banned from another tournament I host.
9. All glitches are allowed.
10.AI parts allowed, as is the 140cm extender.
11. 1 Havok restart per match, havok again and you will be disqualified and lose the match.

15 entrants (plus myself) but if I am allowed and get enough interest, I will run a 4 place wildcard for the last spot (probably forfeiting my own place ).

Give me a buzz if I've missed anything and what you think of this, I'm open to suggestions. Name ideas would be appreciated too as my mind is blocked at the moment.

Discussion / Craaig and MM's timed challenge thread
« on: November 05, 2010, 12:08:01 PM »
Today I brought a memory stick into school with my copy of DSL on it to play on the school laptops. Since we were bored and had nothing to do for that free period (and lunch) Craaig came up with the idea of timed challenges. Basically, we make a bot for a specified weightclass and in a specified amount of time. We then AI them and put them against each other in a best of 3/5/7 brawl in an arena. 'Tis good fun.

Today's challenge was a LW in 10 minutes in the Combat Arena.

VS

E-cookie crumb for guessing which bot belongs to which person. :P

Predict Away!

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section)

Custom Components Showcase / Martymidgets Custom Stuff
« on: August 21, 2010, 03:11:24 PM »
I've made this for any custom components I make in the future...but for now its gonna be the home to my backlash stuff.

First, I would like you to meet my first ever backlash bot, Blocky.

Now, I would like you to meet my second, as of now unnamed. I also think I forgot to do something to get the skins..:P

I can post insides if you want.

General Support / AI Team bot number problem.
« on: August 15, 2010, 01:23:18 PM »
I added BBEANS AI to an RA2 (1.3) I have which already has Starcore V4 and PYS AI in it. Everything works fine, apart from one thing. Ever since I have added BBEANS AI (about 10 minutes ago:P) only 3 bots show up on the Starcore And Pys teams. The Teams.txt file seems to be okay, but I can put it up if necessary. Any ideas?

Well, hi all, nice to be here. I have been browsing and looking at other showcases, and I have decided to make my own. The first robot I am posting I think is bad, but I like the concept and I would like to improve it. The names not very original either :P
