VG SHOWDOWN 2

  • General Tournament Rules:
    • DSL-S 2.2 MW and HW, DSL 2.2 IRL HW
    • 16+ entrants for each weight.
    • I will AI. If you provide an AI, however, yours will be used (no meltybrain).
    • I will not enter a robot, as per usual.
    • Robots can be sent through PM or Discord.
    • You must enter your own robot. No exceptions.
  • Building Rules:
    • SnS bots and thwackbots are allowed.
    • Bot must have at least 2 wheels used to move itself in a controlled manner.
    • Multibots and modular bots are allowed.
    • There is a max of 3 robots per person, and a max of 2 robots per person in each category (DSL-S and IRL). For DSL-S, robots can be entered both in one weight class, or two in separate weight classes.
    • Robots may be updated until signups close.
    • The design/theme of your robot MUST accurately represent the game. If it does not it will be rejected. I will be much harsher on this than I was with the previous VG Showdown.
    • DSL-S:
      • No BFE/AAM/Hax Mode, etc.
      • No cheatbot2.
      • All AI parts are allowed.
      • Any use of RA2CF is not allowed.
    • IRL
      • RA2CF is allowed.
      • DSC's component packs and Geice's AP mod are allowed.
      • Flamethrowers are allowed, but will not be allowed to use EternalFlame.
      • The only cheatbot2 components allowed are the Flatmotor, Slow Flatmotor, and the Overkill/TTD Servo Motor.
      • BFE, AAM, and OBJRA2 are allowed.
      • No AI parts will be banned. However, overuse of AI components (Minion disc, Mechavore disc, FrenZy hammers, etc.) will most likely not fall under sufficient game representation.
  • Tournament Specifics:
    • VG Showdown 2 arena (reskinned Robot Wars 2016 arena).
    • 1v1 battles.
    • 3 minute time limit.
    • Robots will be divided into groups of four, with the top robots moving onto a single-elimination knockout bracket.
    • Two major havok restarts will cause the robot to lose its current match. A major havok restart is classified as a havok explosion that significantly impacts the outcome of a match.

Tournament Archives / Back to Basics (Signups CLOSED!)
« on: April 24, 2018, 01:27:55 AM »
I want to overcome the problems I had while I used to be active here. I shot myself in the foot, aside from Battlebots, by making tournaments that were too gimmicky and were based around things I liked instead of things people wanted to take part in. Since the tournaments section has an abundance of DSL IRL tournaments, I want to go back to basics, both for me and for RA2.

BACK TO BASICS

  • Stock 1.4 HW.
  • Combat Arena (hazards off).
  • I will AI. If you provide an AI, however, yours will be used (no meltybrain).
  • I will not enter a robot, as per usual.
  • I cannot promise any prizes, but I would like to give one out.
  • Building Rules:
    • No BFE/AAM/Hax Mode, etc.
    • No cheatbot2.
    • All AI parts are allowed, as well as the 140cm extender and blue snapper.
    • SnS bots are allowed.
    • No multibots.
    • Bot must have at least 2 wheels used to move itself in a controlled manner.
    • Any use of RA2CF is not allowed.
    • Max of 3 robots per person.
    • Robots may be updated until signups close.
  • Tournament Specifics:
    • 1v1 battles.
    • 3 minute time limit.
    • Two havok restarts will cause the robot to lose its current match.
    • 32 participants.
    • Swiss system.

Signups will be open until the 15th of May, 12:00 a.m. EST. or until the participant limit is reached.

Off-Topic Discussion / Hey
« on: April 12, 2018, 01:06:50 AM »
Hey. Most of you probably don't remember me.

I hopped back on here to use the file host and saw I had a couple messages. It made me think about this game again, so I went ahead and reinstalled it. It's still fun even though I haven't got any better at building since I joined GTM.

I was interested in robot fighting and building since I saw Battlebots for the first time when I was 3. I signed up to this site over 8 years ago, when I was 11, for help with the Battlebots AI pack. It soon became the most important part of my life during middle school, where I was miserable outside these forums due to mental health issues I was not aware I had. I left (again) around high school because I felt running tournaments and being actively involved in the forums would take time away from things I needed to do.

I read through my old posts, and my wiki page, and it kind of made me sad how bad of an impression I left. I wish I could have been good at something like building, or running tournaments (other than Battlebots), or being a decent community member that would have helped me become a more integral part of GTM.

Still, I'm posting now even though I've been lurking for a bit because I'm almost 20 now, I'm at a good place in my life, and I wanted to say thank you to GTM, and to all you guys who were here when I was, for giving me support and friendship during the hardest times of my life without ever meeting me.

I'll be more active now and entering some tournaments for good measure.

Tournament Archives / Hell's Arena II - Signups
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:18:46 AM »
please guys vg showdown 2 will happen i promise

I feel like I need to do this for my own mental stability. HA has probably been my biggest regret on GTM, as it was my first tournament and I had no idea how to format it. I've been thinking for a good couple years and I've finally got it down.

Rules:

- Ironforge MW
- Standard DSL-ish building rules. However, if you want to build IRL, it will be accepted.
- 3 minute matches
- 1 Havok restart, 2nd time eliminated
- BFE, AAM, NCR, Thyrus glitches not allowed
- No hax mode
- Cannot use DSA
- Multibots are not allowed
- No armor attached directly to the chassis of the robot
- Cheatbot2 components are not allowed
- Each bot must have at least 2 wheels

Format:

Bots will be split up into two teams. The first two people to enter will get to pick teams. Each episode (round), one entrant will me eliminated. It is possible that two or even zero robots will be eliminated in an episode, but it is unlikely. If teams are uneven by 2, then they will be evened out. Teams will continue until the final 6, where the competition will turn to individual. The last bot standing wins.

The good news about this format is that I can essentially take any amount of robots, as long as it is an even number (so teams will be even).

So yeah. Let me know if there's anything I need to add/remove. Feedback is appreciated.

Contestants:

1. yug1tom
2. TBD Devastator
3. System32
4.

Freeziez tries to make a successful tournament, take 3.

The theme of this tournament is a Video Game Showdown. Each bot must be themed just like a video game (no limitation to how obscure/ridiculous of a game, as long as it is a real video game). People may have 2 bots of the same game, however, they must be different aspects of the game. If two bots are too similar, I will not ask you to rebuild, just re-theme.

YOU CANNOT PICK RA2 OR ANOTHER ROBOT BUILDING/FIGHTING GAME AS YOUR THEME.

Rules:

- Standard DSL MW
- Reskinned DSL Tournament Arena (it's not too bad, I promise)
- 3 minute matches
- No NARmour (if this is still a thing)
- 1 Havok restart, 2nd time eliminated
- BFE, AAM, NCR, Thyrus glitches NOT allowed
- No hax mode
- Cannot use DSA
- Bots with treads get a 60 kg weight cushion.
- Judge bursts are not allowed
- No multibots
- No armor attached directly to the chassis of the robot
- Cheatbot2 components are not allowed
- Each bot must have at least 2 wheels

Bracket style:

The first stage of the tournament will be a 32-person heat challenge, split into 4 groups of four. The top 2 robots from each group will then move on to a double-elimination knockout round of 16. Any tiebreakers will be settled with a single 1-on-1 match. Grand final will be best of 3.

1. Rnifnuf- Mario Kart
2. Kurt Wylde- Super Mario 3D World
3. Mouldy King Bash- Tetris

Anyone see it?

Although I usually hate modern movies for their unoriginality (no hipster intended), I really liked this one, especially the aftercredits scene which only us Americans got for some reason.
