Back by little demand, it's time for another Wheely Tag Tournament. You can thank Badnik for this one.

Send your bots to me on here or on Discord: Mr. Kinch#9001

Happy building, you have until the 25th for final versions to be sent in. The tournament will commence on the 26th at 8 PM GMT. If you'd like to have a substitute driver if you cannot make it, that is fine. Please have it be someone who is not part of the tournament.

Contests / GUIDE TO BOT OF THE MONTH (BOTM)
« on: February 02, 2018, 08:55:11 AM »
This tutorial is still a WIP. This was made due to people having different thoughts on the rules so I thought it'd be good if we could come to an agreement on some of them. This is what I have so far.

What is Bot of the Month?

Bot of the Month (BOTM) is a competition in which builders compete against each other each month to build a robot which fits a chosen theme/style. These robots are accompanied by a splash (an image around the robot) which showcases it in a certain way. The winner of the competition has their robot displayed on the front of the site.

How does BOTM work?

First, the designated host creates a topic in the "Contests" section of the forum which displays the month and year of the BOTM. Within the initial post, they'll put the theme, weight class and game that have to be built with.

Entries are then sent to the host by the due date (last day of the month, normally).

The host then puts the entries into a new topic with a poll so that they can be voted on. This poll normally lasts for a few days so that people have time to vote on the entries (people that have entered can vote and they can vote for their own entries).

The host announces the winner and an admin then updates the front page with the winner.

Rules
1. You must adhere to the rules set by the host for that month.
2. Stats of the robot need to be posted in the splash. (Armour, drive etc.) This doesn't include the weight.
3. In the voting process, don't state which your entry is. (You can guess whos others are, however).

General Tips
Make sure that the splash isn't awful. It can make or break an entry. (If you can't make a fancy splash, then just make it simple. Putting an appropriate background with some nice looking text is enough).
Make sure that the splash is large enough so that it can be seen properly.
Try and avoid common themes.

Stock Showcases / Mouldy Doesn't Play Stock
« on: January 11, 2018, 06:15:55 PM »
My entry to GTMCS 2 was my second stock bot that I'd ever made for tournament fighting.

While I was happier with it than the first one, it was still pretty awful.

A scoop has been added and now I'm sad that I never ended up thinking about it.

I don't think Infogrames or Gabriel Entertainment thought this game would last long. The same as the community, probably.

Thank God it won't last too much longer.

Well done, guys.

As far as I'm aware, this would be the first.

Retooled IRL.
Heavyweight.
DSL Tournament arena (Reskinned)
No cheatbot2 components.
I can AI but would much prefer for you to do it yourself.
Two robots per person, single elimination tournament.
16 Slots.
No glitches allowed/external modifications.
Best of 3 for each round.
No updating once the original bot has been sent in.
One restart if there is a havoc.
My own judgement will be used for a fight.
I shall be entering.

This is more of a test tournament to see how this kind would go so no fancy glitches or gimmicks for now.

DEADLINE: 25th March

Well, I bought a robot. Some of you smarties might know where this picture is from.

I didn't make one because I am a very unskilled builder and am worried about messing something up so for now, this is the best thing.

Learn about this and how it works, then make my own.

Agreed on about a week ago.

Retooled entry to GTMCS.
Best of 3.
Host's choice of arena. (I forgot what we agreed on, the closest thing to the GTMCS arena was the original idea)
Geice to host. (Thank you, lad)

Will be able to send my bot tonight.

A small Space Invaders clone I'm working on just to get into game design/development again.

Right now, the issues are clear and will be easily fixed.

Down the line, I would appreciate you guys if you could give me tips/feedback.

Off-Topic Discussion / Wooden Model Robots
« on: July 22, 2016, 02:24:47 AM »
(Didn't know whether to put this into the Robotics board or not.)

A long time ago now, my grand dad made me a small collection of these wooden robots for me to play with because I had gotten bored with the pullback toys and the mini-bots from Robot Wars.

He also made me an big arena to fight them all in. It featured a pit, functioning flipper and walls. Was destroyed when my grand parents moved though so I don't have pictures of it.

Indeed, after 7 years, I am bringing it back. Unfortunately, G.K will not be part-hosting it this time as he is dead inactive.

Here is the original sign-up thread, I am sorry in advance: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=3013.0

The way this works is that you must find a partner to team up and fight alongside. Teams must have a name.

Current champions are Team Deadly Accuracy - Ounce and Pwn.

I am AI'ing this time (I am still fairly new to it though so I would recommend you do your own).
Bots need to be received and accepted.
The way you sign up is by having one of the members of the team messaging me with BOTH robots in a zip folder and the team name. Means less sorting my end. Make sure robots are both clearly labelled.
(Old Realistic Rules) Standard DSL 2.2 - All parts must not intersect unless you could feasibly weld them together.
16 Entries - 8 Teams of 2.
Lightweight.
No custom components.
No out-of-game modifications.
In-game modifications are fine as long as they work within the rules.
No cheatbot2.
No clusterbots.
Double elimination.
LuTze Arena Skinned (Never skinned arena before, don't hate please ;-;)
1 Restart per team if Havok.
Hazards on.
3 Minute battles.
Best of 3 battles to win the match.

Deadline: August 20th 2016

Here is my entry:

Game Development / Rubut Wurs - A Game Dedicated to Monty Oum
« on: February 01, 2016, 03:59:40 PM »
Monty Oum? He was the guy who made RWBY and a lot of Red Vs. Blue. Rooster Teeth stuff. He died last year during a surgery that went wrong, aged 33.

In honour of Monty Oum, I'm making a game today.
Monty wanted us to create things that we enjoyed so I thought it was the perfect time to express myself creatively, not something that happens a lot. So, a game, obviously, is what I should create.

I've never made a game before. I've never had any experience in creating games other than little silly things on Scratch that don't work. So I decided to put the £15 to use that I spent paying for the engine that created FNAF.  After a little messing about, I've put this together.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec-_zbgGKlA&feature=youtu.be

Yes, it's ugly. Yes, it's simple as hell. Yes, it's unfinished.

But if anyone knows anything about Clickteam Fusion, then I would like your advice/help.

So I know it's already gone but I just had to say, good job guys for putting on an awesome show if you were at Gadget Show Live this weekend.

I recognised and saw:
Jarvis and Flow
Featherweight Behemoth
Featherweight Dystopia (I think)

I've also got some pictures to show so I'll upload them when they're ready.

===========================================

GARRY'S WARS - Administrated by Mouldy and RoboBowler. Moderated by KOS, Badnik, Ounce and Kossokai.
Based upon the idea of Robot Wars and Jonzu's Garry's Mod Robots

===========================================

Welcome to Garry's Wars, the new and fun way to battle robots!

We all come on to fight our own creations. We have tournaments of different sizes and with different building rules. Addon tools so that we can create extra destructive/stylish looking machines and finally, custom maps created by members of the community to fight on! (But mainly Robo's).

The server is up all the time so robots can be made whenever. Minimal Gmod knowledge is needed to make robots but it does help. A large majority of people on the server are very good with the addons that are used so most people can help you with things.

Tournaments happen whenever (normally when there is a large group of people in the Discord VC). Friendly matches also occur extremely often. Some tournaments are more structured though, normally, replicating a similar style of tournament creation found on here (GTM).
