Public Tournament Discussion / GTMCS 2 but for real this time
« on: December 07, 2017, 02:08:33 PM »
enough of pointless squabbling and dumb bullsh**. i'm going to do this now, because if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

-Stock LW, Ironforge MW, DSL-IRL HW. Click never asked for what weight classes people preferred for BBEANS, did he? People are going to be unhappy no matter what the weight class is, so **** your opinion, this is what we're doing now.

STOCK BUILDING RULES:
Lightweight weight limit
No realism rule
No BFE, AAM, RA2CF, etc.
SNS cannot use melty-brain AI
Crawlers are not permitted
Flamethrowers are allowed from the cheatbot2 menu, everything else is illegal
Multibots are allowed, if you're madman enough to try
Custom AI will be permitted, however it cannot do anything that a human-controlled robot cannot do.

IF BUILDING RULES:
Middleweight weight limit
Realism rule
No RA2CF, BFE, AAM, etc.
SNS cannot use melty-brain AI
Crawlers are not permitted
No cheatbot2 components (I forget if there are any)
Multibots are allowed, provided the two robots are similar weight (no distraction/mini-bots). They are considered knocked out when both halves are eliminated.
Custom AI will be permitted, however it cannot do anything that a human-controlled robot cannot do.

DSL BUILDING RULES
Heavyweight weight limit
IRL Realism rule, STRICTLY ENFORCED. Do not push the rules.
All glitches are allowed as long as your robot is still IRL-realistic. I will be judging this VERY STRICTLY so do not push it.
RA2 Component Freedom is allowed and encouraged to make your robots look as good as posible.
BFE for realism and aesthetic purposes are allowed and encouraged as long as the robot stays realistic. OBJRA2 falls under this as well.
Robots must look as close to real-life designs as possible.
Any sort of thwackbot, SnS, whatever is not allowed.
Multibots are allowed, provided the two robots are similar weight (no distraction/mini-bots)
Walkers/Shufflers are not allowed.
Swiss Army Bots are limited to three different weapon systems. The main chassis of the robot (armor, drive system, etc.) should not change between configurations.
DSC's IRL packs are allowed and encouraged for this tournament.
Other skinned parts are also allowed and encouraged, as long as they are included in your entry. Make your robot look unique and interesting!
If your robot looks really bad (like for example a garish box with a weapon slapped on it) then your robot will be rejected.
I reserve the right to re-skin any robot I think has a bad or low-effort skin.
As far as cheatbot2 parts are concerned, the flatmotor, slow flatmotor, and overkill servo are all allowed, as are cosmetic components on a case-by-case basis.
Robots should not have unrealistically powerful weaponry. This covers burst spam as well as weapon spam. If your robot is too powerful, I will ask you to change it.
Flamethrowers cannot use EternalFlame.py or any modified python file that allows for infinite flamethrower use
Custom AI will be permitted, however it cannot do anything that a human-controlled robot cannot do.

COMBAT RULES
Arena: To be revealed after signups close. OOTAs will be possible but there will be no hazards outside of that.
Double elimination bracket for all three tournaments
2 minute time limit for each fight
All fights will have a limit of 2 match-altering havok restarts. After that, the robot that is causing the havok will be disqualified.
Stock and Ironforge will be judged on points if the match lasts two minutes. DSL will be done as a judge decision, with myself being the judge. Matches will be judged based on aggression, damage and control.

ENTRY RULES
One entry per weight class per person.
Updates will be accepted from the time signups open until the time it closes.
If your robot is illegal, you will have three tries to send me a legal robot before I eject you from that weight class outright.

feel free to tell me sh** i missed, i havent written up a rule set in a while

Modifications / Disc Covers
« on: May 16, 2017, 04:51:32 AM »
Are you tired of every shell spinner looking exactly the same? So am I, which is why I made these:

These fit perfectly on top of the shell discs, allowing you to give some more flair to your bots. They're relatively easy to reskin (i included a readme on that regard since .tga files are a bit tricky in ra2) so you can repaint them to suit your needs. As the description states, they don't have any sort of collision mesh so they'll break off when the shell itself does.

Tutorials and Tips / a short guide to component shifting using BFE
« on: May 14, 2017, 03:40:12 PM »
sup guys

ive been using this to enhance the looks of my irl bots for a while so i figured i'd do a short tutorial on it so other people can do it too

you need Notepad++ to do this. it doesn't work in standard Notepad.

first thing you want to do is identify the component you want to shift. say youve got a round extender that you want to angle, but the angle connectors are all ugly as sin, so you simply attach it off of a side AP from another extender. This also looks ugly, because there's this big ass gap now:

there's a way to fix this problem that involves some simple BFE. first things first make note of what team your bot is in. there are 16 team slots in the bot lab, and the teams folder in ra2 separates each team in a different folder. the first team in your bot lab is team0, and this goes to team15. each team folder has 6 bots in it going from bot0 to bot5. the first column of bots in the in-game team is 0-2, while the second column is 3-5. use this to pinpoint the bot you want to edit, and then open it up in notepad++.

this is more or less what you should see. now you want to scroll down to where the components are, which should look like this:

the last component in this section is the one we want to edit, since it's the last component we added before exiting the game. the line of numbers we want to edit is the line that looks like this:
Code: [Select]
0 0 0this is an XYZ coordinate value we can edit to shift our component wherever we want. The first number shifts the component left to right, the second up and down, and the third forward and backward. In this case we want to edit the center number, since we're shifting our component up.

this number (0.1325) should match your new extender up more or less with the extender we attached it to. If your component appears to be floating in space instead of matched with the extender, change the number to a negative, which will shift it in the opposite direction. For reference. 0.05 is one tick up when you raise a component in the bot lab.

that looks so much better! it still isn't perfect, but you can mess around with the other numbers in that line of code to shift it until you think it's good.

« on: April 18, 2017, 01:43:47 AM »
yeah boys the uber tournament is back, this time half-sized. the bots are middleweights now!

the arena used is an edited bbeans4 arena. no blade in the middle, higher walls and edited start points for multibots, so they start side by side and not perpendicular.

can anyone figure out why this is goofing up for me? i compile it and robots fall through the arena floor like it isn't there.

also using fb's compiler causes it to do the thing where the arena's a black screen and pressing esc crashes the game

Multi-Entry Signups / RA2 Mafia - SIGNUPS (CLOSED)
« on: April 01, 2017, 01:48:30 PM »
Ok how many of you guys have played Mafia before? I just got this idea thanks to Thrackerzod's prisoner-dilemma tournament and i like it so i'm going to roll with it.

-Stock MW
-Maximum of 24 entrants, minimum of 16. Once I receive 16 robots the tournament will close 24 hours later.
-BFE, AAM, RA2CF, Hax Mode, etc are all banned. Your robot must be built completely in the bot lab with no external programs (movepixel is ok, if you actually still use that)
-Cheatbot2 parts are banned.
-No AI wizardry. Looking at you, Apanx.
-Robots must show controlled movement.
-Melty-brain AI is not allowed.
-Matches last for one minute and will take place in the Containment Cube.
-Game-altering havoks will not be shown. Excessively havoky robots will be rejected.
-Re-entries from Crapcan Derby 2 will not be accepted.
-Multibots are allowed and must add up to 398.9 kg or less.
-No updates will be allowed. Once you send your robot, that's it.

Now here's the fun part of this tournament. It doesn't use a regular format, instead everyone that sends me a robot will be given a certain role, based on a mafia role. The game starts in "night phase", and posting in the thread is forbidden. Instead, if you have a role that allows for a night action, you can PM me a target and your night action will take place. After 24 hours, the phase shifts to "day phase" which lasts 48 hours. You are given the results of the previous night's actions including any dead players. Everyone can post in the thread to discuss the previous night's actions and decide who to lynch (kill) per day. Everyone gets one vote as to who to kill, and you can change that vote however many times you want to until the phase ends. Then another night phase begins, and so on until one faction (town, mafia, or a third party) is the only one left standing. These roles will be outlined below.

Where does RA2 come into this? Every time a killing action is made, whether it be a night kill or a lynch, the kill will be decided in an RA2 battle. You have one minute to kill your opponent, if neither robot is KOed, no kill happens. If the victim KOs his killer, then the killer dies.If the killer KOs the victim, the victim dies. If one robot is immobilized, they do not die but instead are "incapacitated" and cannot post the following day phase. How a lynch works is that the final person to vote will put their robot in against the robot being lynched.

Modifications / Live Designs AI for DSL 2.2 - Submissions are closed!
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:50:37 AM »
Oh yes, it's back.

Looking back, the first LDAI release was a bit lackluster - Many of the robots in the pack were of poor quality or just not as good as they could be. I chalk this up to a number of factors but mainly it just wasn't that good. I'm sure a number of people enjoyed the first version but it's time to make version 2 for the new DSL.

--THINGS TO DO--
-Build some teams and AI them
-Collect user-made teams and AI them as well
-Edit some UI
-Decide what arenas I'm going to pack up with this (The Replica Wars Arena and my reskinned Death Facility will definitely be in it, unsure if any others will be)

--GUIDELINES FOR USER TEAMS--
-Robots must be of good IRL quality. The 2.1 release had a lot of "questionable" or "just plain bad" robots. I don't want any of those in this pack.
-If your robot designs are alright, but your skins are lacking, I may take it upon myself to skin them myself. If you send me robots without any skins at all in an attempt to get me to just skin them for you that isn't going to fly.
-Included with your team must be a logo, team name and description.
-BFE, CF, cheatbot2, the DSC IRL Packs and any other custom skins you want to make are fine with me. Anything to make the robots look as good as possible. Certain CB2 parts (IE: the Judge Gavel, beta Hammer, etc) will either be toned down in power or banned outright.
-Ant, Beetle and Cruiserweights must be marked with AW- BW- or CW- in front of their names. If I can find the bot-preview editor I'll probably use that to edit their previews accordingly.

As of right now I am currently not accepting submissions.

You can view a full list of teams and submissions here

RULES:
- DSL 2.2, Middleweight AND Heavyweight

- 2 minute matches
- Double elimination bracket
- This tournament will be held to VERY STRICT IRL Realism standards. None of that borderline crap. Make your robot look like a real robot or it will be rejected.
- Matches that contain Havok will not be shown. If your robot cannot participate in a match without havoking then it will be rejected.
- All glitches are allowed as long as your robot is still IRL-realistic. I will be judging this VERY STRICTLY so do not push it.

- BFE for realism and aesthetic purposes are allowed and encouraged as long as the robot stays realistic.
- Robots must look as close to real-life designs as possible.

- I reserve the right to re-skin any robot I think has a bad or low-effort skin.
- I reserve the right to reject blatant re-entries or boring clones of existing robots. Put some effort into making something original, it really isn't that difficult.
- The following Cheatbot2 Components are allowed:

Basically I want you guys to put as much effort as possible into making something that looks fantastic. The art tournament to end all art tournaments. Can you guys do that?

JUDGING
- Fights will be judged on significant attacks and control of match.
- Judging will be done by myself. If anyone has an issue with this then we can discuss it in the thread.

You know how a lot of people seem to have the issue where the game will crash if you try to select a robot or wire something?

It's actually a really simple fix. All you need to do is right click the .exe and select "troubleshoot compatability" and just follow the steps from there. It'll likely suggest for you to run the game in XP mode which solves the issue.

Existing Games / NASCAR AGD Series 2016 - GTM Signups
« on: June 02, 2016, 11:59:05 AM »
(Note: AGD stands for ARC, GTM, and Discord, the three groups I'm running this for. Discord means explicitly the Garry's Wars Discord channel but i thought AGD sounded better than AGG)

Been a while since I did one of these. It's back with a few changes on the logistics side of things in order to make things easier.

Rules:

For this, you can run a team and create drivers to run in it.

TEAMS

Choose a make (Chevy, Dodge, Ford or Toyota)

Choose the number of cars in the team (1-4)

Choose numbers for your cars (0-99 with 00-09 also)

Choose sponsors (must be relevant to 2016 and should be something you would see in real life)

Owners should try to paint their team's cars themselves if they are able. However, I will be able to paint cars for you if you need to.

The mod we will be using is the BullRing 2015 mod. The link below includes a download to that mod as well as paint templates for the cars we will be running.
http://bigdonlinemotorsports.com/Sprintcupseries.html

For your drivers, you must fill out the following stat card:
Aggression:
Consistency:
Finishing:
Qualifying:
Road Course:
Short Track:
Speedway:
Superspeedway:

All cars will have an equal pit crew and vehicle stats, so it's just the driver you need to worry about. You have 680 points to spend. No stat can be higher than 100 and no stat can be lower than 60. The way NR2003 stats work means your stats will vary slightly per race, the number you put in is the high value and the low value will be 20 points lower than that.

**NEW RULE: For every car your team has, your maximum point total per driver will decrease by 20.

You must come up with realistic names for your drivers. It doesn't have to be your real name, but make it realistic. I will not allow any names that would not be passed off as real.

I will allow more than 1 user on a team, but try to keep it just your own made up drivers.

Points system:
46 for first
42 for second
41 for third, etc.
The last place car gets 2 points
1 bonus point if you lead any number of laps
1 more bonus point for the driver who leads the most laps

The season's schedule will be a truncated version of the actual NASCAR schedule, basically removing the second races at every track and adding a third road course:

Since I'm running this for three different groups here, it is likely that there will be more cars signed up than the 42-car limit in each race. If this happens, then there will be three races per race day: two short "heat races" to decide on the field for the main long race, with only the cars in the main race earning points for the race day.

Good luck!
