General Support / hey um for real though
« on: September 16, 2018, 09:59:03 PM »
first off woah i wrote the rules for this board? how cool is that? well, ****

i was a better man back then!

so this is what i've been dealing with:
https://gametechmods.com/forums/modifications/robot-arena-2-component-freedom-(remove-7-component-limit!)/120/

and in complying with my own self-imposed rules--
windows xp (laugh) dsl 2.2 download directly from unzip to desktop into it's own seperate folder and unpackaging the pack in question directly as instructions in the readme.txt entail for the non-permanent mod.

ill go into the game and build off a seven extender stick until it stops just to check that it's not working or active but i already know before i start because nothing has changed where it says "tips" in the bot lab like is said in the txt file.

so what's up? i know y'all got this working with dsl, hell... i did too! and im pretty sure it was on this awful little computer! (or the prior one, which was, i might add, no better. in fact, quite a bit worse in a few ways)

sorry for being impatient... but i want to play with you jerks! what might i be doing wrong?

Modifications / what do i need to be entirely up to date with dsl 2.2
« on: July 18, 2017, 09:01:17 PM »
i see there are new extender colors and all sorts of other nifty sh** now as im browsing the showcases around here. i don't remember any of these being around when i last had a computer a few months ago. is 2.2 the most widely used current version right now? is this what i want to be playing if i want to enter a tournament of some sort? what add-ons are allowed and what would you consider necessary to be completely 'with the times' as it is as far as robot arena 2 is concerned?

let me know!!!

thanks!!!!!!

Off-Topic Discussion / what are the newest albums youve acquired
« on: July 18, 2017, 06:23:42 PM »
just renewed my library card and picked up some cds while i was there. heres what i got

converge - all we love we leave behind
converge - axe to fall
vampire weekend - modern vampires of the city
vampire weekend - contra
vampire weekend - s/t
alabama shakes - boys & girls
brian wilson - smile
jack johnson - in between dreams
beach house - teen dream
the postal service - give up

im familiar with most of these, haven't heard anything from converge more recent than 'you fail me' though... and i wasn't super impressed with it (jane doe was a hard act to follow, though). always liked vampire weekend but never had a full album of theirs. checking out beach house because of a song i'd heard on cable radio that i really enjoyed a while back, no other introduction to them. the postal service because i've heard good things but never checked them out. everything else i'm trying on the strength of a couple of songs i've heard and because i couldn't find anything more interesting

what about yall eh??

Site News and Feedback / preview images for things in the downloads section
« on: February 28, 2017, 02:31:57 AM »
want to download some stuff to add to my game but i dont want to end up with a million things im never going to use. another thing that would be great would just be a page that shows all of the images and textures straight up as images that i can just drag and drop whatever logos and textures i would actually want to use without having to download the entire pack and then scroll through and remove everything ill never use so my bot lab paint section isn't an un-navigable mess. they're just images, why do i need a bunch of giant zip files full of sh** when we could just put the damned images displayed out on a page so we can pick and choose what's good for us? it's counter-intuitive for something as easily displayed as image files.

right?

thanks

i am very glad to see you all :o)

im probably going to use this thread later on to ask some tips on what 20 dollar ebay laptop would be the best bang for my bills but i need a little time (right now i'm busy installing ra2 on the one i'm borrowing) so this thread is a placeholder of sorts and also a reminder to myself in that sense

glad to see yall cleaned up the clutter a little bit now too!

big shout out to everyone who left a private message for me with goodies while i've been gone. love yall!!

it has been far too long my friends :violin

Off-Topic Discussion / whatja get for christmas yall
« on: December 25, 2015, 07:17:44 PM »
i got a lot of bad things this month but these last two days have been alright and probably even very good!!

yesterday i was walking around the hood and found a god damned fender precision bass on the sidewalk this woman said she was throwing it out because the strings are broken and she doesnt know what to do with it or how to play it. its red and white like christmas and its gorgeous

i also visited my family and got some gift cards and underwear because thats how christmas is when youre 26. i think its kind of ironic that i didnt get any socks and i actually really need socks badly. who hopes to get socks for christmas and doesnt even get them haha

ok well merry christmas you weirdos

General Support / dsl screen resolution error upon startup
« on: October 30, 2014, 07:23:17 PM »
i installed dsl from the all-in-one download that we have here onto a laptop running windows 8.1
the two initial splash screens came up (infogrames and dsl) and then after that the game window closed up

this is the error i got before the game finished starting up:

"cyberlink power2go does not support the current screen resolution and dpi setting"

now when i went to open up the forum to post about it i noticed that the bottom of the screen ra2 was still running minimized and when i went to click on it the game was actually letterboxed vertically so that it was running at a regular resolution instead of being stretched to widescreen (something i've always wanted! i wish i could figure out how to do that on my own computer) but i was wondering why it might be doing this and if theres any way around it

my music in the game also skips when i perform certain actions, like exporting robots out of the botlab

any input is greatly appreciated

much love yall

Game Development / mobile robot combat?
« on: October 28, 2014, 11:51:12 PM »
ive noticed a lot of people here are pretty damned good with using the unity engine, which is great for making mobile games. i've also seen robot combat games done in flash and shockware (like the one that was on miniclip for a long time). has anyone considered making a robot combat game for mobile devices? i think it would introduce a whole new audience to the games and to the community, and who wouldnt want the ability to play something like this on the go? there are far more complex games than ra2 for mobile devices nowadays, i'm sure if it was packed up properly and the controls mapped in the right way you could probably get ra2 on a phone at this point. anyone think robot combat on mobile is a good idea?

heck, there's money in this idea. i'd love to help if anyone wants to try this

Modifications / questions regarding game music and texture packs
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:30:43 PM »
well now that i've started to get back into modding my game (and back into the game itself) i remember that you could change the music in the game by dragging over the music that you'd want playing in the bot lab and other areas, however i don't remember if it was nessecary for you to change the name of the music file to avoid crashing the game or having what you'd like playing in the appropriate places. anyone who's done this able to explain it to me?

also, i'd like some suggestions on good texture and decal packs for the game. i've added dozens of my own decals but some of them do crash the game when i click on them despite being the proper file size and all of that. i've got to sift through and remove them. i would like to really max out the potential for nice skins in game without having to deal with skinning via ms paint (only image editing software i have on this computer, which isn't actually mine so i can't just download programs all willy-nilly) and im sure quality can be hit or miss so i'd like to know what's the best of the best so i'm not clogging up my botlab paint screen with nonsense i'd never use

much love as always yall and thanks in advance for any tips tricks and reccomendations

Discussion / item skinning options for the next dsl
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:48:51 AM »
something id really like to see in the next dsl is some item skinning options. by that i mean for items that are very frequently used and make up a large portion of the visual aspects of a robot (such as the spinner panels and disks, skirt panels, extenders and armor plates) it would be nice if they could add to the drop down menu a few different colors for these items so every robot using them doesn't look the same. this would add a lot of variety to the bots that are made and would require very little actual work to do.

another thing id like to see is more types of disks (as far as the ones you'd find in the extender section) since there's only so many options and as such a commonly used item it'd be awesome to have some visual variation with them. maybe even some additional tri-bars (maybe a quad-bar? a quin-bar? maybe a flat tri-bar as opposed to the tri-bar that comes down at an angle from the apex? there are so many shapes and sizes that could be added to keep all of our spinners from looking the same. the more the better! c'mon, let's see it!)

think that this could be done?

itd be much appreciated!

thanks

DSL TC Showcases / im toast
« on: September 07, 2014, 05:29:41 PM »
mhhmm

ive been playing around with dsl (thanks scrap daddy et al) and i wanna have a place to post my things. theyre not all going to be good im just funnin

somehow this nar uncontrallable little whirly dervish wouldve skid its way though its first tournament had i not decided to mess around with that iceberg cat while it was down

ive got more that ive made but nothing im particularly proud of yet. the first build of this guy was a middleweight fbs, i was shooting for lightweight the whole time though i was just playing with the weight. this is what i got on my second shot. better body type and more conventional on the first build but i never got to test run it because my game often crashes during test runs/paint jobs and i never see it coming or remember to save (i see the fruition of maybe 50% of my builds)

ive gotta find a better way to screengrab because i can only do one at a time with prntscrn+paint. how did i manage before my mac idk

fun little disaster though. if i make the weapon a button instead of a switch it makes him driveable and less flip out prone

hello everyone

« on: September 06, 2014, 04:54:14 PM »

Discussion / visible atttachment points: has anybody made them?
« on: January 28, 2014, 11:23:30 PM »
im getting a rookie friend of mine into the game and he's trying to rotate round extenders for hours trying to get them facing the proper way to attach via the sides in the direction he's looking for. has anyone came up with a way to make extension points viewable on the part as you are attaching it without making them visible all of the time (i.e. in practice, battles). it'd make for a really helpful tool.

my apologies if this has been asked ten thousand times or something

thanks in advance~

Existing Games / steam room
« on: May 12, 2010, 06:18:03 PM »
apparently steam just came out for mac and you can download portal for free. however, i've watched people playing portal and it doesn't look like something i'd be into. what are your favorite games on steam, and what are they like? i just downloaded this thing and i'm not sure what i should be doing with it really.
