DSL TC Showcases / Re: ALKaboom's DSL Showcase

Hey, use the:
Code: [Select]
[img][/img]tag to embed your bot pictures, it's best to do the descriptions and all here.

Bots look good for a beginner level, take a look at the other showcases to see how others build their bots and to get new ideas, also try out the skinning option and different chassis shapes(still try to not waste weight) to add more visual look to your bots.

I will start skinning them. I used the basic RA2 editor and was lazy and stopped. Put the gallery in my post as well.

I've been playing RA2 for the past three years, I've been a member of the forum for just over a year now and I regularly browsed the forum before then. I've never done a showcase though. That's mainly because I don't know what I'm doing and have only just started to make consistently decent bots (Yay). I've probably made tonnes of bots in the past but they were either crap and/or on an old hard drive or copy of the game. So, without further ado, here are my currently least s*** bots:

Slammer: A horizontal spinner with a really powerful drive. Makes up for slight lack of weapon power in speed.

Slammy: Mini Slammer. A lot slower but the weapon is better relevant to its weight.

Smash Box: Spinner killing powerful flipper. Two ram plates at front to protect chassis.

Nuclear Meltdown 2: Ridiculously powerful front-hinged flipper.

Mini Meltdown 2: Mini version of Nuclear Meltdown. Flipper at too much of an angle and not powerful enough to be effective.

Randolot: Vertical spinner. The weapon isn't very powerful but it has a lot of armour and can get repeated hits to kill an opponent.

The Hammer: Tried to make a Thawackbot but the motors aren't powerful enough. It's got sawblades on its wheels though.

Wakker: Hammer bot attempt. Hammer is a bit underpowered but the armour is Steel 10.

Metal Madness: Ram bot attempt. Very quick but damage is minimal.

Ginormica: Massive powerful weapon. Pitiful drive (Big wheels help with speed a bit and look stupid). Designed to kill Grog the Warrior.

Slamberrie Evo: The first Slamberrie turned fourth version. Originally a bar spinner then a hammer spinner then it's drive motors were upgraded and a useless front wedge was removed and a pole to help self right was added. It's very powerful though and one of if not my best robot(s).

Slamberrie Three: More maneuverable but has a less powerful weapon than the first/fourth version. Would be better if when I turned the front or back didn't lift off the ground and i could get under the opponent.

I think a working online mulitplayer will be the most appealing feature to new players with this game... Especially with the new Robot Wars, there will be a lot of people that will want to battle their own robots! Could be a massive boost to the series, especially if some big YouTubers play it.
NerdCubed really likes this series so it's a guaranteed 1 million views in the bag (if he knows this game even exists at this point in time...)
I've sent him a tweet seeing as I thought he'd be interested. Dunno if he'll see it though.

Well, seeing as there's development pics and it's on the RA website it's extremely likely to be real.

Also I am a bit confuse as why they have two diffetent logos for the upcomming game.

I took both logos and put them over each other to check it they have just taken the basic form of the fist one and made it more simple. as it turns out... they did not!

(Image removed from quote.)
Well, they probably didn't create the pages at the same time and I'm guessing the one I found is supposed to be a replacement for the current RA homepage so I bet either they use the logo on the replacement page or it's just a placeholder for the actual logo from the og homepage.

finally some screenshots!

dude this actually has potential. didn't think I'd ever say that. steam workshop support will be very good for this kind of game.
Yeah, this looks like it could turn out to be a great game. I noticed the steam workshop support and that is what I thought they'd do. I hope you can put custom components in the workshop, that would be really cool. Multiplayer, better customisation and chassis shaping, more and different parts (e.g. crusher parts), better physics. All things I hope will be in the game. I hope they don't mess this up but from the screenshots it'd be hard. Only time will tell.

Hope they make RA2 robot sucessors like Emergency 2, etc. or import them from RA2. Also arena replacements/imports.

Also, about the merging thing, how would that work? What would I have to do? As you can see I'm a noob to posting by the 6 (now 7) posts I've made.

I'm assuming not meant to, no. I expect this was meant to be a future replacement for the homepage.

Was watching a Robot Arena 1 video on YouTube and went to click the website link to RA1 on the og website and it came up with this:
http://www.robotarena.com/ra1/default.htm

I then saw a link to RA3 and "coming soon" video. There's no video but the RA3 link, OHHH BOYY!!! I'm guessing they put in these links for when they reveal the new website so they don't have to later. I don't know but I don't think anyone has found this out yet and/or shared it so yay me!  This is pretty impressive at first glance and let's hope they have been developing this for a while and just saw this time, with Battlebots coming out, to say anything.

RA3 page link: http://www.robotarena.com/robot-arena-iii/

P.S. I'm not sure if this post is in the right section.

Tried running in compatibility mode multiple times and in windowed and full screen mode. It seems like when RA2 loads bots it just crashes. It seems to not be able to save any bots I make and when reloading or loading another bot it crashes. Maybe something with the way it saves bots or the way it interacts with windows 10. It's not installed in program files btw. I might install a new copy and see if that works (this copy isn't transferred from windows 7 as my computers hdd died and I reinstallled RA2 after re upgrading.

General Support / Windows 10 Crashing RA2
« on: August 21, 2015, 01:59:03 PM »
I recently upgraded to windows 10 and RA2 seemed to run fine until I tried to create a new bot. I tried to test it in the test area, game running fine. Tried to go back to builder and it crashes. Go back to game, no bot. Repeat process two times and no luck. Go into bot builder, exit, no bot. Try to enter other bot slot, crash. Go into my team, exit, go to other team, crash. I don't really want to go back to windows 7. Is there a fix someone can come up with or should I just forget about playing RA2 ever again.
