This is like a time capsule into the early days of the DSL-IRL meta, a lawless wasteland full of bizarre or unrefined designs. Steel Terror would never be allowed into most current tournaments purely for having three bursts, even though its design is so inefficient that most 2-burst flippers would put it to shame. Also how the hell did Behemoth lose that heat final? I can only assume it ran out of battery at the same time Necrosis got stuck? It was clearly dominating the fight up until that point.

How the hell was Black Hole let in when the weapon clips through the wheels like that

My old LW, Venom, has finally received a rebuild to bring it in line with its full-size cousins, Paralyzer and Nerve Agent. It'll be standing alongside Knuckle Sandwich as my flagship LW for the foreseeable future.

Episode 3 definitely has been the best so far, imo. I didn't like this one as much, though. The pit needs to be gone next season.

"What every robot in next year's BattleBots will look like"
False, Absolute Zero is a 2WD vert and the BattleBots meta is 4WD verts

I've spent several hours refining my drisc bot, given it a lick of paint, and a new name: The armour is overkill and the weapon is pathetic, so I might see if I can drop it down to a middleweight (54kg). But I've poured enough time into it for now, so that can wait for another day.

Nuclear Nelly looks phenomenal, I need to start putting more effort and detail into my own RR2 builds

That is Greek mythology right?
Yep. I struggled to think of a good "duo" name, and that was the best I could think of. Will be intrigued to see how they do.

I remember Killer's front-hinge going out that way in GTMCS2... such an unlucky way for a front-hinge to lose Also Thanatos Redeemer havoking into the pit with such force that it bounced back out again

I agree with Plerco, the AI is already looking more intelligent and entertaining than the RA2 AI. Hopefully, once we can AI axes and flippers correctly, we'll be seeing a bit more originality and variety in terms of entries. I don't want the meta to be dominated by boring Deep Six clones.
HUGE got super-unlucky there, but Supernova looks impressive. Wonder what that means for Spitfire's chances in Heat B...

Well, uhh... this didn't exactly go very well, did it? I blame myself for that. I knew Ludum Dare was the first weekend of October, and that it would occupy a lot of my time, but I didn't realise how much of my mental energy it would also take out of me. I was totally burnt out by the end of the Ludum Dare weekend, and then not long after that, I began suffering from my annual debilitating cough. By the time I started regaining my creativity, I needed it for tournament builds (Tearaway, Fire Ant, Scylla & Charybdis...) And without the guy in charge putting in any effort, I'm not surprised that everyone else abandoned Botober too. Thanks to everyone who did take part, though, especially those who stuck it out for longer than I did. Next year I may look at rescheduling this for a different month, so Ludum Dare doesn't burn me out again and I can properly commit to hosting and competing. Third time's the charm, eh?

So we've got... a drum, a flamethrower, a petrol tank, an extender anchor (I think), a control board, and... a motor with gearbox? Looking pretty good!

A while back, I made an extremely flat LW rammer named Knuckle Sandwich. The idea was to counter overheads by just being too low for them to hit. I decided to see if the concept translated to MW level - and while I'm at it, why not make two and turn them into a HW cluster?

I don't think the experiment worked, tbh. They're too slow to build up decent ramming power, and too under-weaponed to actually be viable as a HW cluster... plus you don't see many overheads at HW level anyway. Hmm. Well, at least it's something different.
I went back to the drawing board on this one, and came up with these (significantly deadlier) flat bois: I'm throwing them in for Mech Madness 3, because the deadline is tomorrow and I didn't know what else to put in my sixth slot. So my line-up is as follows:

Holy sh**, the original Deathstalker. Now there's a blast from the past.

Looking at that draw, I feel like there's an outside chance of Group D actually being won by a non-spinner for a change... not too confident about Tearaway's draw but I guess we'll see how things go.

Are the numbers seeds?
No, I believe they're just the order in which the entries were received.

Oh sh**, I totally forgot, I need to get a sixth entry together and then send them all over. I've had way too much to do recently.
