Discussion / Re: need more stock builders!
« on: April 05, 2013, 06:00:02 AM »
I don't see the point and have never seen any legal DSL bots use it.
quite a few of my bots use it, even the irl ones

What this fine fellow said.

The main reason I built more DSL was that when I first joined all bot types were fair game- but since then it's contracted to only two or three at the top, similar to stock. I still build most of the lesser bot types though, jugglers and HS being my specialty.

If anything building a good IRL bot takes more planning than a standard DSL bot since I've been doing it for so long, and then stock is a step up. I only open stock if I have an idea that wouldn't be allowed by the shifty DSL rules, and then half the time I give up halfway through because I rarely have a setup in mind so it takes me hours...and I don't really want to spend that long building a bot unless it's UHW or something.

tl;dr I'm freaking lazy and bad at anything stock that isn't a popup.

wait

The small black batteries are useful now?? Will we have to change our entire building habits???

I believe that was most of the point of DSL 3, badnik.

You can't use the other saw AP and get them all on the same way?

Of course I can, I just can't be bothered at the moment :P

And IRL isn't the same setup over and over again with a slightly different set of components or skin to make it look different?

/end.

Around 20 entries? Wow, that kicks that crap out of any stock tournament.

DSL IRL is the new thing, DSL standard is more dead than stock at the moment.

Is this real? Is this a standard DSL bot?

P3 or 5. 4 ants, a caster on the bottom (sue me). The weapon works both as a gut ripper and a trapper, as most chassis for MW are fairly thin- for example

The skis make it invertible, which was nice to find out when I added them to provide a degree of protection for the wheels.

I can't have been the only one who thought the chassis was a big smartzone. Regardless I like it, the only hole I can see is the fact it uses locking motors, which is something you can't really change if you want a stable tracked robot.

In general, the worthwile armours are Tite5, Tite3, Steel1, and maybe Steel10 if you really need to kill weight.

What happened to p3 and p5 being good? :C

#2 makes me laugh because it says it has the best drive to weight ratio of any UHW, when 1 and 3 have better ones.

Voted 1 because I like the bot itself more, despite the messy splash.

It's a stock AW flying guillotine.

Looks good.

SS/VS hybrid.

Or a FS/VS hybrid. I've lost my touch with those and need inspiration.

Inspire me, Frenchy.
