So I looked in the practice arena folder, and I have the following files/folders: maps, practice_arena.gmf, and practice_arena_txt.gmf. Anything missing in there?
Looks fine... In the Maps folder is there 42 items in there? What type of computer are you using because i'm a bit stuck >.<

Go take a look inside your RA2 folder for the 'Arenas' folder and the problem may become clearer for you.
What be I looking for? Everything seems to be in order there. Wait! There are plenty of Python files, and I believe that my Python is out of date. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what will.
Have you had a look inside the arena files to see if any files are missing or have you edited any of the Python files?

140 cm square extenders weigh 5 kg.
shows how often i play stock >.< But try moving the weapon forward/protect the motor because it looks a little exposed to me. If the weapon is back there then it looks like HS's might get to the chassis a little too easily before you can attack if it's low enough.

I reckon you could do with only 2 ants for that, and that's some quite funky extender work you've got going on, but I reckon it could do pretty well with a few tweaks and such.

Lrn2spellmyname :P But as i said it didn't work as well as i wanted >.< And it seems i can't without losing some of the drive (the wheels lift off the floor), However i've put this one and a few other bots i forgot to put up onto the exchange so i'll let you play around with them...

The thing is that it crashes (or freezes, for the instance of the exhibition) whenever I enter an arena. No matter which version of RA2 I use, the DSL 2.1 (Sage's download included), the RA2 1.4, and the CD installation (patched or not), the game always crashes or freezes in an arena.
