damn i remember the time when the DSL tournaments were DSL so you could actually fight and not all this "not irl enough" nonsense.

I like IRL, Infact I cannot stand Non IRL, all robots are uninspired, going for the "Razor Rammer" or "Stick pointy things on tribars woop". IRL is how I believe RA2 should be played.

Uninspired? Really? It's more inspired than "let's build a wedge with four wheels. Yay, done." or "eugh I've got everything I need and I still have 100kg left, let's chuck on random pointless components!" every other bot.

And if you consider BFEing the way it's meant to be played, then sure. Considering a large portion of IRL bots have been BFE'd in some way or another...

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas

2- Tommy's replicas are beautiful, but his replica making skills need to mature before getting to AU. He can get AU by making amazing bots, however. This has been done before.

Alright guys help me out here. What are the links between these groups of three words.

Example: Driving, Off, Poetic = Licence

Distance, Perfect, Tense
Mimi, Pass, Ticket
Bare, Low, Preacher
Boy, Long, Wheel
File, Hit, Track
Gooseberry, Horn, North
Bread, Pan, Tomato
In, Thing, Well
Clock, Club, Course
Jelly, Mint, Seal
Comfort, Cross, Ocean
Brick, Flower, Street
Soft, Wind, Work
Cap, Head, Station
Box, Lever, Top
Ever, Over, Thomas
Canal, City, Hat

I only have 2 inklings.  The British language is more different than I thought.
Golf....Clock, Club, Course  dunno what a golf clock is but, 2/3 leads me to believe it's right
Past....Distance, Perfect, Tense...?  Again 2/3
In, Thing, Well...bred.
Canal, City, Hat=Panama
Jelly, Mint, Seal=Royal

Not sure about rest.

Bread, Pan, Tomato = Sauce

.........that's all I've got.

Gooseberry, Horn, North = Cape

I wrote that in a rush so I may have missed some things out, feel free to correct me everyone.

I can't seem to use metal hinges, they break the second I attach them (the non-anchored part always flies off).

If you get this problem, tab out into a different menu (e.g Controls, chassis, etc) just after you've attached it and it'll stop flying off. Then attach something (preferably the first part of the wedge) to it, then do the same for the second/third ones etc and you should be fine.

Metal hinges are prone to AGOD though (Axle Glitch of Death), where the collision meshes of components attached to the hinge can sometimes misalign completely and do some really strange things. If that happens it's best to rebuild the hinge setup completely, and if that doesn't work you may have to rebuild the bot entirely. There is a pause glitch that sometimes fixes it- but it isn't entirely reliable in my experience.

When it comes to spinning motors, you only need one ant battery to run one spin motor for a standard 2 minute match (might even be 3). This'll save you some weight for other things.

Metal hinge wedges are often better than skirt hinges and burst wedges (nobody uses them anymore, but a well tuned one can be deadly).

All in all, it's a good start for improving. Consider using the outer attachment points for discs in the future as well. A good weapon set up for this would be light ds teeth/razors attached to beater bars. You could also find a way to make it invertible. However, feel free to do what you want, really.

Honestly it's better for you to just experiment with stuff. If you need a hand we'll point you in the right direction- and feel free to showcase it.

Happy building!

Yeah, well, they were mainly built to be combat effective, and then having them be IRL enough to be acceptable.

You're doing it wrong.
