I like WaaghBoss a ton. The higher res skins really make a difference, and just the overall shape of it is really nice. Glad you're still building too

Building stuff for LDAI3 or whatever it's gonna end up being called. Here's my MW. 2 small VDMAs so it should be nice and powerful, and dual TWMR drive, so middle of the road speed wise. Fairly happy with how it's come out looks wise.

After reading over the rules in more detail, I'm gonna second Badger on not using the crash patch. I know having it makes your recording a lot less painful, but it also makes what's already probably the strongest class, especially in this arena (verts) even more powerful, and nerfs flippers extremely hard. I'd suggest instead that you maybe just limit the max number of attempts at recording a fight to 5 or something like that, and then just do a JD based on those 5 attempts for fights you can't get a good recording of.

I'm down as usual of course. Gonna keep up my record of building a new bot for each series too methinks.

This showcase is dead like my grandmother. anyway lets have look at my superheavyweight "Low Blow" [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ] Inspired By that one Pyramid bot M.O.E beat back in Season 4. 2 DSL 4 SledgeHammers on a DSL Bar powered by a 4 Mag Motor.
Here is a non IRL bot aka your worst nightmare "LockDown" [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ] [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
A Vertical Spinner bot with 8 Typhoon Teeth powered by Etek Motors. Skirts to get under the bots to get a good hit. This actually was once a IRL bot so i Do plan on making it IRL Again
I'm kinda at a loss for how Low Blow is an SHW. Can we see a shot of the internals and can you tell us what chassis armour it has please? I know you're aware that Lockdown isn't IRL, but it's also not DSL-S BTW because you've used CF to build it. Dunno if it was intended to be DSL-S but just thought I'd give you a heads up

Over to the UK for our last conference of the Eastern Hemisphere!
Well I am bloody chuffed about that performance
Hufflebloods really ****s with the AI with how part of it can go out but you get stuck aggroed on it, which I do think cost me my 1v1 with it, but given I went on to win the conference anyway I ain't gonna make too much fuss. I think I was very lucky to win vs Gwip too so it kinda balances out overall
TY for a great heat and tourney so far Bagman!

CW vert for Billy's thing. Some compromises on my initial vision of what this thing was gonna look like due to the weight limit, so I may do an HW version at some point, but I'm reasonably happy with it looks wise. Perm 132 for the disc, TWM3s for drive (pretty slow). Decided not to run any form of wedge, and instead just get the disc as close to the floor as possible as an experiment, so we'll see how that goes.

I'll probably throw some entries in the top 3 weight classes. My interest in the MW and lower classes is basically 0 these days though.

Good to hear! :) Here's a BW drum. 171.9 KG, and....I forgot the armor. [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Use a flatmotor, they are more powerful and lighter
You need to stop giving Redalert this piece of 'advice'. He made quite clear a while back that he doesn't want to use CB2 components, which is fine. To give some actual feedback, I don't think you'll be able to fit a perm 80 with how you've got the chassis laid out, but honestly a piglet shouldn't be too too bad on a BW anyway. It's a pretty decent effort all in all. Your internals are nicely compacted and everything. Certainly no cardinal sins here

Welcome back. Since you are last here, DSL-IRL have become very popular, with a Discord server for RA2 if you are interested, just saying. Also, there's many new developments like RA2CF, DSC IRL Packs, OBJRA2, etc. I recommend getting DSL 2.2 Complete Edition for those, as well as read the IRL guide to know what the standard is like these days.
Anyway for the bot itself, the main thing is that you must not use skirts, as they are paper thin and would bend in real life. Replace the protective skirt with plates, and wedging skirt with wedgelets or panel and wedge edge on a hinge
He may not necessarily be going for IRL Billy, so the skirts could well be fine. That said, if you are, Billy's advice holds true. I'll defer to someone with more knowledge of DSL-S than myself to advise you on how to optimise your bot for that meta, but in terms of IRL, you'll probably want to swap your weapon burst from the JX that you're using currently, to a VDMA R/P, as they have much more power for their weight. I don't know if you have DSL 2.2 installed, as this bot doesn't have any components present in that version of the game, so here's a link to an install of 2.2 with a bunch of additional mods that are common in building these days: http://www.mediafire.com/file/396q48h0222adap/DSL_2.2_Complete_Edition%25285%2529.zipWelcome back to the forums by the way. Hope you stick around :D

Sorry for spamming it, then... IRL MW HS. Sledgehammers don't touch the wheels. [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ] [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ] 1 mm. Steel actually isn't too bad, it's slightly stronger than 3 mm. Plastic... 395 kg.
You'll need cross-supports between the bars of the tribar like Son of Whyachi has for that to be IRL legal. That tribar is way too spindly to hold those massive hammers on its own

Still think I'm bad at IRL?! [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]
Design wise, it's actually really nice. It still suffers from that issue that a lot of your IRL bots have though in that your panel work is just a bit messy. You're definitely on the right track, but try to reduce those ugly seams and overhangs between panels as much as possible

This isn't my best work. I wanted to make a grinding drum spinner. The weight got out of hand, and so did the shape.

Your panel work is really excellent for someone who's been on the forums as little time as you have

I mean, tbh, an AI pack to replace the existing bots with actual IRL ones would be pretty sweet. It's hard to gauge my bots' performance when all I have to fight against is Shogun, Cranky Spanky, and Panic Attack. We could also take advantage of stuff like OBJRA2, component freedom, and the DSC colour packs, which obviously weren't around when the DSL AI bots were constructed.
Such a pack already exists. RedAce made it https://gametechmods.com/forums/modifications/dsl-reborn-ai/

After I got the pack I moved the .bot files to the robot designs folder in my original game, but when I tried to import them to a team the game would just crash. It may be because they are still compressed and not extracted though, but I don’t know
It's because you don't have all of the components the replicas use. They use several custom skinned components

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ] How's this?
It's an improvement. There's still some misalignment on the top panel which you could fix, but it's a fair bit cleaner than it was. I agree with Badnik though the weapon feels a bit DSL-S ish to me. In particular the use of razors. It's a pretty silly complaint, but I think it would look (and possibly perform) better if you used pole spikes or something instead of razors. Aesthetics matter more in IRL than they do in other build styles, and razors are pretty ugly components. Switching them out would make the bot look a lot nicer I feel.

Love these updates, I’m really glad to see how much genuine effort you’ve put into this. This feels absolutely universal now, I don’t think this is going out of date anytime soon
That's the goal! I'll try to keep this up-to-date if and when IRL building standards evolve etc, or as newbies have more questions on the meta that the guide in its current form doesn't answer

I've updated this with some additional picture examples of some rules which I previously only explained in text, as well as giving more in depth explanations a to why these rules exist. Hope this alleviates some of the confusions I've seen from newbies surrounding some of the rules featured in this guide
This guide helped a lot, I appreciate you updating it.
Glad you found it useful. Helping out new players is exactly what I wrote it for. If there's anything else you're unsure about feel free to mention it, and if I know the answer I'll be sure to update the guide again to include it
