I am still fiddling with options for Bandersnatch and Jabberwock. Would you like to submit Ingor, Son of Ingor, and a MW version for consideration as the new Team Jabberwocky over the top hammer bots?

And that is fine. We need to stimulate DSL construction and help people find all the goodness that has been wedged inside.

Stock Showcases / Toughest Bots in Starcore 3?
« on: May 05, 2008, 05:42:50 PM »
Many of the bots I listed as some of the best of Starcore V3 came from Rejected. He was one of our best bot builders. A craftsman and an artist.

My listing was based on comments from a wide range of bot builders. Some have trouble with different kinds of bots like Reaper and Dizzy Bees. Some don't. I would say our Pop-ups in general are quite good BUT not as good as they would be if driven by their makers. I have trouble making Pop-up AI as effective as Real Pilots, though I did my best in tuning Smartzone locations for best timing. I am looking to use the new AI routines the Beetlebros came up with for AI detecting chassis instead of weapons before Popping.

Would having a personal team called the Spin Doctors be a bit of a hint?

As a bit of trivia, when Starcore V3 came out Pop-ups rulled the arenas. It has taken us a long time for Horizontal Spinners to regain the throne. I got into the sport watching bots like Ziggo and Son of Wyachi. Since Full Body Spinners are pretty ineffective in Stock RA2, Horizontal Spinners are pretty much their closest kin.

Since we are looking to pull over the Stock RA2 activities to GTM as well, I would suggest doing a Bot of the Month for Stock RA2 bots as well. I would love to submit bots like Warmachine and the newly updated and destructively elegant Borg Queen.

I would suggest letting her have a Pink Thread. I personally like the techno look. You can see the darker themes in the Starcore packs and my personal team, the Spin Doctors.

I would love to hear which bots people thought were the toughest in Starcore v3:

My views are from the inside so I know others will feel different about some of the bots. That and since I have been working on Starcore v4 I do remember the updates sometimes better then their predecessors.

My not so humble opinion of which bots were the best of Starcore v3:

LW:
HS: Spindoctors-Tempus Fugit
HS: The Grave Diggers-Reaper
Poker: Rust Factory-Reckless Infiltrator

MW:
Poker: Rust Factory-Acrid
HS: Happy Bees-Dizzy Bee
Poker: Infestation-RoAcH

HW:
FS: The PIT-Rabid Pit Bull
Juggler: Rust Factory-Neglected Waterbug
VS: Rust Factory-Clockwork Hydra
HS: EHB-Little Darling

AW:
FS: Spin Doctors-Logic Probe

BW:
HS: Spin Doctors-Graviton

SHW:
HS: Borg Collective-Locutus of Borg

I am sure others feel different on which they think were the most difficult. I can say that the V4 Starcore bots has new leaders that can kick butt on their V3 Forefathers.

Nope. Darkrat hasn't visited this forum for a month, I think his last visit was before the forum went down (edit: I was talking to Goose and he told me that Darkrat did leave), and Starcore has been gone for a long time.

The DSL development team is now Goose, ACAMS, Clickbeetle, and me. There are also the beta testers.

Rooting for you guys! Greetings from the void and happy holidays!

She really didn't want us to fuss about her, asked that we not tell any one and requested that we not dedicate the DSL project to her.

Lucy, Merry Christmas! Go with God...

Cool, that is different and nowhere near what I expected. It should do good, but Wheely big Cheese will piss you off I'm sure. I see you have Perms, so they must be stout since you only have 2 weapons hitting at a time. I am afraid Wheely big Cheese pisses me off more than any other bot now, kinda like Emergency did (AAAAHHHHH Starcore must have used Emergency's bindings)

All AI for all replicas use custom hand written settings. Each one tuned for that bot. I don't know that I have ever looked at Emergency's AI.

some AI are to easy, others are to hard(tournys). ill have more later.

agreed, the tourneys are way too hard, unless I'm playing as the best bot (Killdozer).

Glad to review specific AI if you can tell me which you think are too easy. We did adjust the weights of some bots to fit into different weightclasses as needed to fill the teams. This had the side effect of changing the bot versus what it would be fighting against.

Which AIed bots do you think are too easy?

And on that note, the in-game tourneys should be difficult but not undoable with a good bot using the DSL parts and driven well. Since we can't change (that I know of) the between round repair times our other choices are to:
* Dumb down the AI
* Weaken the Replicas
* Strengthen the connections on DSL parts
* Strengthen the damage done by DSL parts
* Other

There are downsides to each solution mentioned.
