What sort of time commitments are involved?
This is what I meant by "I dunno how much attention you guys were paying", I just worded it horribly. I have an hour in the morning, an hour at lunch, 3 hours or so at night, and all day Saturday and Sunday. If that's enough time in which to admin the site, then I can at least give it a go. It doesn't seem like much needs doing around here, but obviously I'm not privy to everything going on behind the scenes.
it's less a maintenance thing and more that you're supposed to be a figurehead in the ra2 community (although I think that more comes down to the person than the position itself nowadays). I would prefer that we have more than one active admin to help even the workload and avoid a potential torv situation where we have no active administraiton Orc also has expressed interest in taking the role, which I have no qualms with as I feel he would be a good fit as he is well respected and influential member of the community

Short and sweet: 09 and I have no longer have interest in being a part of the active administration are probably gonna join hoppin in the river
If you want to step up, then now's your time. I've asked numerous people who are well respected and upstanding members of the community and they've all said no. y'all love to contribute opinions on where this site should be heading, so now's you're chance lead it there yourself. also, 09 and I will probably remain on temporarily to assist with the basics of editing the forum until the new admin/s can get the hang of things (or you can just ping one of us when you want stuff done, that'll probably be easier for everyone)
If nobody suitable wants to take the positions, then we'll probably just give it to kix since he was the only one who said yes ( not that he was given a serious offer)

Mocking unpopular metas is a nice way to reinforce why we're considered a clique.
and stock and dsl-s are universally regarded as being the """wrong""" way to play the game outside of gtm. people are well aware of the elitist history behind those metas regardless, it's going to to be ironforge hw. also woke news: in true zoomer style we now have a server https://discord.gg/nYn9FS

Will this tournament be DSL - IRL? And I think, that commentary would be nice.
just gonna say, if it's only like a 60/40 spilt in favor of 3 irl divisions then we're probably going to go with 3 different metas. irl is still being included, and I think more people would be happy with a stock/if division than being bummed out about there not being an irl lw/mw/cw division
the weight classes will most likely be hw for all 3 metas as its the only remaining one left for stock and if, and sub hw is aids for IRL
there's 3 different divisions, the most popular one is going to be dsl irl

alright so the poll isn't finished, but it looks like the 3 metas will be stock hw (unrealistic), ironforge hw (standard), and dsl 2.2 (irl)
as for irl rules: would people prefer the 2/4 or 4/6 meta? which ever one passes will be slightly modified to a little more encompassing in terms of weapons, but it'll still. be familiar to those who play IRL

reviving this since there's been some talk about a potential gtmcs 3

it's either time to move on, or time to let someone come through and really shake this place up in the biggest way possible.
I've said it before, but if someone wants to take over running gtm then none of us have really any issues with it one thing i really wanted was a more diverse leadership in regards to community representation (as in somebody from pws,ow, and whatever else the other big servers are). obviously I don't want to force taking an administration position on anyone, but I think it could be a step I'm the right direction

can it be called DSL: IRL or something instead of dsl 2.2 ce just so they arent both 2.2 and confuse those poor rando new dudes
also everything sounds good to me chief
2.1 beaters?
i mean, i can just remove the base 2.2 file from the downloads section and just have it somwhere else so noobs don't download it but sure whatever that works

One thing I personally want to see in this update is new Replicas, but since this isnt a major update (Like DSL 2.2) that probably wont happen.
me too man also if this doesn't get any feedback (which it won't tbh since people cba to actually give feedback on ra2 related stuff ) I'm just going to implement everything that's listed - fixing the colored beaters

Effective immediately, polls are no longer required to start a tournament
they really make no sense with the current setup of the tournament section, and anyone can already just host in the personal tournament section and skip the entire approval system
Yes the entire tournament system could use a revamp, however it's not as easy as it seems as we don't want to make it too restrictive and scare what few tournaments we have left into hosting off-site. the main goal would probably be to encourage off-site hosts into opening their tournaments up to the gtm community.

it's been talked about for awhile so might as well get it over with
100% getting added : -Colored typhoons and beaters -Colored bars -Colored drums -Centered betas -the correct skinned frenzy hammers
things already released but open for discussion: - dsl 2.3 npcs - non-damaging wedglets (technically not permanently released, but I've sent them to like 5 people so) - mine/kix's colored mini wheels - whether or not we should restore the colored beaters to the default 2.2 level or use the default beater buff - locked npc motors - disk covers - include redace's AI pack
things that haven't been publicly released but shown: - wedgelet fix to make them 30cm - separating wedglets into non-damaging wedges and damaging chisels with a blunt edge - updated teeth col meshes - updated omni with improved srimech detection - remove edge damage from replica disks (technically they'd be classed as having 1 normal so they should get a x2 buff but obviously that's not gonna happen) - give steel and ti 1, 3, 5 their correct strength values
yes, it'll cause issues with people not updating their game, but we already have this issue en mass anyways

Nobody plays stock, IF, DSL-S etc because none of the advocates for it are actually active enough to push any newbie towards it.
imo the reason nobody plays builds it is because there is no room left for innovation since everything has become so well optimized so unless you are doing PVP you can basically bet 1/2 to 3/4ths of the enteries to a tourney are gonna follow the same basically formula since you gotta if you want to win.
that only really applies to the boomers, zoomers just flat out have 0 interest and think the metas look disgusting. they just view them as skillless weapon spam fests also doesn't help that it seems the preffered method of encouraging people to branch out to other metas is bashing on irl

Is there anything we as individuals can do to help this community? I’ve only been with you guys for about 4 months, so I’ve never seen y’all in your hay day, but I feel slightly responsible to do whatever I can to get GTM back on track. I really don’t want to see it go to sh**, so please, if there’s anything I could do to help, I’ll do my best to do it.
just actually use it. the biggest issue gtm has is that people only hang out in their discords and they never feel the need to use the forums.

Reading this thread is so depressing. I think RA2 is a good game, but we just dont have enough members in the community.
Combine that with ARC being better than us (Embarrassingly), then GTM is left here to die.
the ra2 community is still relatively large, it's just not entirely concentrated on gtm nowadays. iirc, OW4 has around 64 unique entrants, which is an extremely good turnout for a tournament in 2019, and i believe pws6 had somewhere in the 50s?? and yes the gtm discord is sh**. we've removed all invite links to it and revoked invite privileges for that reason. that being said, even if it wasn't, i don't see people actually using it besides boomers who haven't played the game in years. active builders are just going to stick to PWS or OW as those are more active and have a larger active userbase, and it would just end up like the rwl or ahol discords (no offense to the owners) maybe staff just see's things differently. we really don't look at the community as just gtm anymore, but more so the greater ra2 community at large since like 9/10th of our userbase is also active on pws/ow/oota/ms2/whatever server is hip. it's not as simple as it used to be in 2009 where this was your only option for ra2. without trying to sound like a condescending prick, i don't think people understand the situation of where gtm sits if this is your only community that you're a part of. if people want, we'll completely restructure staff to be more 'gtm' focused. i really don't mind stepping down and neither does 09. also, ive talked with people somewhat recently about making a serious open ra2 discord to replace the gtm one. it wouldn't necessarily be a 'gtm' focused server, but it would serve as a good starting point i feel on an unrelated note in regards to modding: we really need to just update the CE with the most commonly used mods and call it 2.3 cause rn to be up to date with the irl scene you need to download an additional 5+ files. i've been posting some minor updates in the ow discord (new collision meshes, updated .pys, etc), and i know that bild and kix have also done a few things done as well. realistically this would probably be the best time to add them without making compatibility a total nightmare
