Existing Games / Re: Wii U« on: June 14, 2013, 11:53:09 AM »Metroid games simply don't sell as well as Donkey Kong. For example, Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii) sold roughly 5 million copies, whereas Metroid Prime 3 sold only 1.3 million. Besides, Retro wanted to do Donkey Kong. A game built with love is going to turn out much better than a game made by a developer who is just going through the motions.Nintendo showed the best games for me at E3, lot's of variety and quality. I can't wait for Smash Bros, W101, X, Bayonetta 2 and I know Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be great for the Wii U's sales.I actually think that using another DK game is pretty bad idea since Nintendo is effectively appealing to the same bracket twice with two fairly mild platformers; unleashing a Metroid game instead would have been more advisable since then they'd have more variety - sadly, having two of your big guns as platformers doesn't really work, hence why Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn't hit home as hard as the original, what with NSMB: Wii around at the same time. 283

Also, Venko, it seems Micro$oft haven't heard of the PSX, a Japan-exclusive all-in-one entertainment system released by Sony 10 years ago, around the same size as an Xbox One. It bombed spectacularly:The PSX failed because 1) It was expensive 2) A less expensive PS2 was already available. I'd say the PSX is more comparable to the Panasonic Q, the DVD-playing GameCube. It was expensive, and a cheaper version came out first. ![]() 286

Basically, if the other veterans accepted the person as one of their own, then they could call themselves a veteran (without being flamed). There is no set criteria for Veteran or Advanced User.I'm certainly not aware of any criteria and I'm one of the few people capable of setting titles. ACAMS may have had some criteria but I'm not sure what they were. If memory serves right, I gained my status through working on the Bots4Battle site and by chumming with the right people. 292

and Nintendo now has the details on Flipnote Studio 3D.
http://flipnotestudio.nintendo.com/3d/ It looks like the global sharing system is going to cost money, though the software apparently supports exporting your creations as .GIF or .AVI. 293

If you want to develop phone apps, learning C++ would be a good idea.

Existing Games / Re: Let's name TRUE exclusive franchises by letter.« on: May 31, 2013, 12:34:05 PM »Well I always considered Mario etc. as franchises and stuff like Mario Kart, Mario Bros. and 3D mario as series. This list to put it simply is a "you can't play this franchise anywhere else" list.I would consider Mario to be more of an IP, but I guess that's just semantics. My point about exclusivity is that while you may have been able to play, say, Halo: CE and Halo 2 on PC and Mac, all subsequent Halo games have been exclusively on Xbox systems. Any list that doesn't consider Mario to be a Nintendo exclusive and Halo to be an Xbox exclusive is ridiculous. 298

So we're using the Wikipedia definition? I disagree with it, but I can accept it.
Why are we using "exclusive" to mean "has never had any games on any other platform ever"? I submit that a better definition is "currently only offered on one company's platform(s)". This would make the list far more relevant and would allow for people to contribute to the list without having to worry about some esoteric offshoot or port. 299
Existing Games / Re: Let's name TRUE exclusive franchises by letter.« on: May 30, 2013, 04:01:39 PM »You kids don't know what you're talking about. Spin-offs are separate franchises than the main series.Wait, why doesn't Pokemon count? The Pokemon offerings on PC were spinoffs and non-game software. Pokemon:TCG is an entirely different series with an entirely different set of rules, types, items, etc. So while one could argue that Pokemon: TCG isn't a Nintendo exclusive, Pokemon (Red, Green, Blue, Gold, Silver, Crystal, etc.) is. Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Rumble, and Pokemon Ranger are also exclusive franchises. Mario Bros. (offered on the Atari and such) is an entirely different game (yes, there was only one made) than, say, Mario Party or Super Mario Bros. The CD-i Zelda games are non-canon and weren't even made by Nintendo. Just because a character (or characters) from a game appear in some form on another system, that doesn't negate any other games they appear in. 300
