A good example of the Popup vs. HS luck is Chernobyl vs. Revenge of Dr. Wham. in BBEANS 5. RODW was bounced away a certain, yet different way, because of the spinning, the route the bots take, the arena shape, etc. That bounce sent Chernobyl up, and at just the right angle, and a well-timed hit KOed it.
A good example IRL is like trying to dribble a football like a basketball. You can TRY to do it a certain way (bouncing it on the flatter part of the football), but it does not always go to plan because of all of the variables. 2765

What I was trying to mean was exactly what variables are. The variability of whether or not wedges get under each other, if a bot is a little skewed one way or another, causing a weapon to not hit, etc.
What I am trying to say is that there are so many variables that no two battles can be EXACTLY the same. 2767

LW SnS aren't good anyways. I cannot stray from them though. I don't think my chances in CCIV are too good. You might beat me again Urjak!

Well it is said and done, and you cannot undone what you've done.
And I hate it when G.K., no matter how much he is doing it in good spirit, is helping a tournament. It reinforces the bad behavior. @TX: IF you start another tournament, the only way to get respect is to go start to finish, and host it well. 2774
Off-Topic Discussion / Re: worried about the forums direction.« on: August 25, 2010, 05:06:20 PM »
OK, my responses to the thread...
@TX: Even if you think nobody wants to see the tournament, keep it going anyways. I had quite a few people post in TWOC discussion thread saying they would enter. 3 entrants and me later, I had a tournament going. Not just a normal tournament, where I can film all of the matches in one day and post them in two (@Craaig :P), I needed to wait for each round, then make a new splash, and then film. Bottom line is, someone is interested, even if it is only a few people. @Natef and Naryar: Nary is right. You could become a popup specialist easy. SnSs practically fell in my lap after CC1. That was one of my first serious SnS in a while, it wins a tournament, and next thing I know I have a pretty good knack for SnS. And we don't need anyone leaving @SM: Bad idea about the post thing, people would just come in to spam so they could stay. And some people will not post for a while because they lurk @ACAMS: I really like the system in place with the warnings, etc. I just think it needs more rules related to trolling, spamming, etc. @Sage: I am one of the ones you mention about Stock vs. DSL. To be honest with you, the stock showcase section has been much more active in the last couple weeks. My thoughts: First of all, we need to get rid of the reputation system. The only thing it has brought is some bawwwing from certain people who care what others think. I have never seen the point of this anyways Second, At first thought, one would say that it is a good idea that we should delete the off topic section. That is not the case though. I doubt that people like Hydro or Natef would stay around without story time (which is by far the most popular thread here. even I pop in from time to time). Third: Being 12 has nothing to do with immaturity. We have plenty of mature 12 year olds, and when I joined, I was a 14 year old n00b. And if I wasn't as oblivious as I was then, I probably would have left will all the flaming that I received, which flew completely over my head Fourth: THIS FORUM IS NOT DYING. People have been bawwwing about a dying community for a while. All I can say is that in the last 2 years, it has grown exponentially. Fifth: STOCK WILL NEVER DIE, because that is what everyone plays first, and some people get latched on to it and love it. And its THE STOCK GAME. We wouldn't have any of this without it. Sixth: The only way RA2 will ever die is if we stop innovating. Stop getting better. Well guess what, we haven't for as long as I've been here. DSL 3 will come out soon (hopefully), Serge is doing wonders with his exe work, tournaments are flourishing (and too many aren't a bad thing, its more examples for people that they can use to get better. I have an example. The first serious DSL flipper I ever made. It had Mag Snappers. Why? Smashbox 2.). Everyone here has there own share of innovations (Hell, who ever expected someone as new as Thyrus to reveal the Zero-G Glitch to the world). Seventh: Tournaments are a great thing because they have helped me improve. I suck at building something random. I cannot go into the bot lab and just think up something to build. I need a tournament to build for. Something where my bot needs to be its best. I build better when it is. I also know what to build. Hell, look at Stanley 2. No way I ever would have built it that good or put that much time in if it hadn't been for BBEANS 6. Eighth: Rules need to be enforced for ALL PEOPLE. I've seen too many vets getting away with things like swearing that a newbie would get flamed for. Yes they have earned the position they are in, but they shouldn't abuse it. Ninth: N00b whacking should be a semi-punishable offense, when it goes too far. Tenth: We need less smileys, especially the dancing ones, and the FAIL smiley. Just my thoughts -Somebody 2775

They are not worth it because of their annoying tendency to flip up and over the back of the bot and be worthless there.

This forum is really in a transition cycle when I showed up 2 years ago, and still is. 2 years ago, when BBEANS 4 was starting, there was an astounding lack of mainstay members (we had trouble filling a 32 bot bracket!). Since then, these forums have grown tremendously. Tons of people have joined. Tons of people that are INTERESTED IN RA2, which is the main point of GTM. The main core of people here have shifted a lot. Gone are the days where n00b whacking was rampant, and tons of members were driven away in droves. Now, we get lots of mainstay members. They can be a bit immature sometimes, but I can always get a laugh out of something on here. And maybe some people are immature. I used to be. The longer they stay, the more mature they get, and the better this place becomes.
P.S. These kinds of threads are just as bad as the n00by threads IMO. Its a valid point though, but still... 2777

I used them because I didn't have much weight left (those the 140cm Square extenders), so they make a nice long wedge. They are SO FREAKING WEAK though.
Wedges don't seem to be terrible, but aren't great. There is also a 10kg ballast in the front. Anybody got any ideas for 10kg for this bot? @MassimoV: You don't have to be too nice to people. Just stay on the site and don't be a complete idiot/know-it-all/jerk/n00b and you'll be fine. |
