From what I've heard, it's all been filmed, but laziness has taken hold with regards to uploads

Okay, really quick feedback:
1) Why are the pictures so dark?
2) A lot of your text goes off the side of each slide.
3) You could probably do with pointing out the other functions in the bindings, as if someone tries to write a line based on what you've given, they'll miss quite a lot.

This image sums up the first 2 issues, for references

No problem. Are there any other basic skill tutorials people think we should have but perhaps don't?

I believe the motors are designed to be a little more realistic in terms of speed.
For the bot you've made there, I don't think there's enough power in it, plus the design of the flipper itself reduces the flipping power - if you can remember pivots/moments from school, the 'moment' exerted is ForceXDistance, so with your flipper, the distance is quite large, meaning the mass of the bot your trying to flip is effectively multiplied quite a bit.
If you wanna keep that design, you could try and up the amount of batteries, to see if the flipper is better under better power, increase the size of the flipper plate (so you have more flipper underneath the bot when you flip them - very useful), or just change the burst.
One thing I quite like doing to save weight on a bot you want to LOOK 4wd but don't care so much about speed is putting a set of the wheels on 360 axles, so they're purely unpowered but the bot looks 4wd.

That's a pretty harsh rule and would reflect pretty badly in the number of entrants. I almost put a rule into a tournament that you could enter 2 bots if you AIed them both, otherwise just 1, so positive reinforcement rather than punishments.
But whatever. Just seems short sighted in that some people genuinely might have tried to learn but can't. In fact, it makes you look lazy as a host.

Some builders don't know how to AI, or might not have the time to learn, or flat out can't learn. You'd just not let them enter?
Yes the bot should move forward and fire it's weapon. Forward is not left then right then left then right... It's a relatively easy fix too, after a very quick test of the AI.

And seeing this post reminded me I made that original one, so I popped that older one onto the end of the new one (as it's a little more complex and less picturey). Thanks for that :P

Just looked at my IP address using the GloMod stuff and was suddenly really shocked when Marty appeared as someone using this IP as well. Then I remembered we live in the same house.
Cool story.

A basic skill which is sometimes unknown to newer members. Let's check it out.

I want to send Wasp into a DSL MW IRL tournament.

I need to click it, and then click 'Export' which brings up this screen:

On which I press OK. The bot has now been exported to my Robot Designs folder in the RA2 directory.

I can now go to the GTM Bot Exchange on the top bar of the site, and scroll down to the DSL MW uploader (obviously use whatever class and mod your bot is).

And add my robot to the exchange

---A FEW MOMENTS LATER---

Yeah! We uploaded it! Now we find it in the DSL MW Bot Exchange, and copy it's link address.

And this address can then be sent to someone running a tournament to enter your - hopefully legal - bot using GTM's Personal Message system.

Congratulations! You entered a tournament!

EDIT: I actually just found out there was already a sort-of guide (with less pictures) I posted about 3 years ago, with a slightly more complex method (but a method I personally prefer). Check it out here:
1. Read the requirements of the tournament you wish to enter, noting weight class, game type and any restrictions.

2. Built a bot suitable to these requirements.

3. Leave the botlab, and in Team HQ, click the robot once, and then press export.

4. The bot will be exported to the 'Robot Designs' folder of your RA2 folder.

5. Put the .bot file into a .zip file - most Windows OS can make .zip folders.
-ALTERNATIVE: Use winRAR to put the file into a .rar file. After installing the free winRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) program, right click the .bot file, and click 'Add to *botname*.rar'.

6. Go to the GTM File Host (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/page,page4749.html) and upload the .zip or .rar file you just created.

7. The uploader will give you a line of code. Select this code, right-click and copy.

8. Go to the tournament signups page (ENSURE THE TOURNAMENT IS IN THE SIGNUPS STAGE FIRST, AND NOT DISCUSSION, AND ALSO THAT IT IS NOT FULL) and click the message icon (Image removed from quote.) to send the host (the first poster, who runs the tournament) a personal message.

9. In this personal message, right-click and paste the code from earlier. Add any relevant information if you feel necessary, remembering to state why you are sending it in either the subject or message.

10. Send the message, and hope it all goes well! :D

Changing the way the matches are done after signups is of course an issue, people may have entered something different had the matches been done differently.
A quick example: I know nothing about football, but would people be happy if the way the World Cup was being run suddenly changed after all the teams were confirmed?
As a host you have a certain obligation to be completely crystal clear about everything, and make sure everything is ready to run the way you're saying it will before you run it.

This thread hasn't been posted in for 2 and a half years and the last dev pic was 3 years ago. I really don't think asking if this is still happening is even a viable question.

May I just ask, how did you decide the matches, Avalanche? Were they randomised in some way or did you pick?

Not sure if you could or not in DSL3 but if you put some tiny wheels onto the bottom of the extenders (attached straight to them) would that help?

Use the 'Modify' button on the very first post, but only if the new title is going to be relevant to this section of the forum (General Discussion).
If it's a tournament or showcase, just make a new thread in the relevant area.

(Image removed from quote.)

I know I said I would take a long break before hosting another tournament, but I'm just getting this out there so I can see what people think of this before I officially start in a few months. For those familiar with the mock tournament I made a while back, this will be the same ball game. I'm also considering making this a series if this is popular enough. This also won't have any stupid gimmick like my other complex tournaments that make entering it annoying, so let's hope this goes well.

GENERAL RULES:
- Stock HW
- 24 Entrants
- One entry per person (However, if there isn't enough interest, then I will open secondary signups.)
- If a Bye-bots is needed, then it will be Emergency filling in the empty slots
- I'm willing to AI if you are not able to, but don't complain what I AI'd your bot
- You cannot enter unless your bot is received and accepted
- You cannot try to find loopholes in the rules
- If this becomes popular enough to be a series, then the main winner and the rumble winner can enter an extra entry in the next tournament.

BUILDING RULES:
- General stock rules apply
- Heavyweight bots only (399.1 - 800.0 kg)
- You cannot use BFE, AAM, Hax, txt file editing, etc.
- AI parts are allowed, including the 140 cm extender
- No cheatbot2 parts at all.
- The only custom components that are allowed are from 090901's and/or Sage's Skin Pack
- Bots must have at least one wheel, but it must show controlled movement
- Multibots are banned
-Interchangeable weapons and forms are allowed, but you MUST PM me what form you want to use in the match. (or it will be randomly selected.)
- Jokebots, replicas, IRL style bots are not allowed
- You can update your bot as much as you please until signups end

BATTLE RULES:

- 3 minute length matches
- Starcore AI Arena (Hazards on)
- If a robot havoks once which costs the match, that bot gets a free restart, if it happens again, that bot is disqualified

MATCH RULES:
There will be three different formats for the matches, everything from the battle rules applies here.

My Entry:

Whaddaya think?

This is now a signups topic and the rules above may not change. You have a year. :)
Sorry this took so long, had a hectic schedule myself this weekend.

It's constructive criticism - or rather, it's advice. We don't intend to upset you. At the end of the day, if you try some of it out, you'll probably find your bots improved which will in turn make you happier :P
But basically don't expect a lack of advice, that's what we use showcases for.
